Do you know what is the most decorated battleship in America?
USS New Jersey (BB-62) ("Big J" or "Black Dragon") - is an Iowa-class battleship, and was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named after the state of New Jersey.
New Jersey earned more battle stars for combat actions than the other three completed Iowa-class battleships, and was the only US battleship providing gunfire support during the Vietnam War.
And guess what? You can visit it!
Minutes from Philadelphia, PA and just 1:10 from NYC (via I-95).

She is also the fastest battleship is the world. When she was recommissioned for Vietnam she had all of her light AA weapons removed along with other things. She ran the measured speed test when she was the lightest of her career and logged 35.2 knots over the measured course. That, my friends, is fast.
35.2 knots is truly fast! Wow! Didn't know about that. Thank you so much for this fact!
Glad and much appreciated to get the chance to be part of the repainting and touch up for this ship
Wow!! This is an honor!! This is a very unique opportunity!!
My dad served aboard this ship from the time it was 1st placed into service right up until the end of WWII . He was in charge of the starboard galley and had many stories to tell of his experiences while he served aboard the USS BB 62 .
That a huge honor to serve aboard this ship! I bet all his stories were fascinating.
So was My grandpa
Truly an amazing ship . From your footage , it would appear that all one has to do is put fuel in her tanks , start her up and sail the world . She is in incredible condition . Thank you .
Thanks for watching! Glad that you enjoyed it.
The Iowas are just beautifully proportioned ships.
Now that's the pride of new jersey a majestic peace of history.
just a comment on the NJ, i watched almost every video on her, very interesting, when i was in the Navy in '68 i was in the radio shack in the USS Wright, it was anchored off of Lewis Del, while on watch i heard (in Morse code) the call letters, looked it up and it was the NJ. so i was able to communicate with her as she was coming out of Phila yards for a shake down. now how cool is that.
Wow! That's a historic moment right there sir! Thank God they preserved her and now she is open for tours. Incredible ship.
Thanks for your service sir!
I am glad I am former crew member
During 1st lebanon war.
In gorgous old long beach ca naval station
I was in her deck dept 1st division.
When I got aboard her in 1987 it took a week before I quit getting lost. we also weren't a reserve fleet! We went to the Persian Gulf a little after the USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 655. We thought for a minute we might get in a gun fight, even loaded the 5"38's that you can't unload!! I was a 19-year-old pointer in mount 55 thinking we were about to get it on. We didn't Iran might act crazy but they would never take on the Big J BB-62!!! We left the loaded gun's on the beam and fired them when we left the gulf the next day.
Wow! That's awesome, that you got a chance to see this beauty in action. And getting lost - that was my main question: how the heck people aren't getting lost in this ship, when they have to act fast and move around quickly,
Thank you for your service Sir!
I was on 89- til decom. A cook. The tall skinny omelette man.

Мощно! Легендарный корабль! Участник стольких событий, а сколько моряков служили на нем. Музей на воде с отметками целой эпохи.
Hi I'm Ryan Szimanski, curator for Battleship New Jersey Musame and Memorial
I like how you can just walk into any and all sections of the ship. I'll be visiting in a few weeks.
Yes, very much accessible ship. Enjoy your visit to this ship!
I ❤ the use of the soundtrack from the movie Glory. I have a family member who served aboard the New Jersey when it was recomissioned back in the 90s.
BB-62 is amazing piece of history, it was an honor to visit this beauty.
And thanks to your family member for the service!
Great walkthrough, thank you.
Thank you for stopping by!
Dmitriy. Thank you for this tour of BB62 USS New Jersey. 🇺🇸
Thank you so much for watching! Im glad that you enjoyed the video!
Today, March 25, 2024 BB62 is taking on many Thousands of Gallons of water in her Bow into CLEAN ballast Tanks. This will level the ship to make a nice level ride into the Dry Dock in Philadelphia. This dry dock, Ironically, is where she was BUILT in 1940-41 !! strip and re paint the Bottom and new Cathodes are in order. This ship is always DRY to the keel inside. Shes still amazing!
It is cool my ship looks same as it did when I served in her in first lebanon war.
Fascinating!!!
Thanks!
very well done. I subscribe to the curator's channel here and this vid was a nice overview of the whole ship.
Thanks a lot! This ship is a true legend!
I still remember going there inside the turret, the deck, and bridge
I went to the New Jersey once, but there is just no way to see it all in one day. I can't wait to go again

Your a lucky man.

@@Gendos_Iz_Tallina спасибо вам большое! Всех вам благ!
I want to see this ship so badly

Love the ship and daily videos on different topics from her curator Ryan.
7:45 it's interesting that the chapel would have the flags of the world's major religions in there?? Not sure how interesting that is, but ok....
