Got to say the date scene at the end of Bakemonogatari was so perfect it actually made it difficult to watch any more of the series because I didn’t want that feeling to go away.

Holy fuck this is so true. Context, this is my favorite series of like 400 series watched on MAL. I couldn’t explain the emptiness I felt after bake towards araragi and senjougahara’s relationship and this is definitely why. That date scene was so peak, that they didn’t ever try to top it again, and let other seasons peak in different areas. And the rest of the show your meant to understand there relationship with that date as context as to how deep there relationship is.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to his original impression of it. I mean the animation is clearly mostly good to great with semi consistent sparks of holy shit but its also mostly impressive in it's subtle animation focuses like clothing, perspective change or experimental/creative visuals.

its surprisingly simple. Look up the novels and watch that order, its the same as anime release order but with Kizu after Bake. Fate is beyond confusing and debatable as far as order is concerned but Monogatari is literally just follow the books.

I like the kizu series after bake and last seasons, were my favourite
Back in 2020 when I first watched it I understood nothing but it was so expressive I was always intrigued by what I was watching.
So when I rewatched it last year it felt like I didn't even watch the show but I no longer found it confusing and I found a deep appreciation of the series.
One of my favorite things about it is that It explored great depths of human emotions which in universe manifests into various creatures in a similiar fashion to the Persona series.
I love Monogatari and Persona so much because both explore the human psyche, a topic in which I am very interested in, learning about these characters backstories and deeply emotional moments big or small is such a fun and enjoyable time immersing yourself into these stories.

@@BagusHallim I watched the anime and then read some of the novels, sadly don't have time to go through all of them.
The novels are honestly great, and having read them after the Anime I could confront the two to see what the anime left out, which is mostly some nuanced details and stuff like that.
The novels do give you a more detailed outlook on the various stories but the anime compensates with stunning visuals, soundtrack and voice acting.
I personally suggest starting with the anime, then try reading the novels if you're invested.
As for watch order, you can commonly find 2 different opinions on how to experience the show: One is following Nisioisin's original release timeline; the other one is following Studio Shaft's release. The difference, as far as I'm aware, is the positioning of Kizumonogatari in the watch order. Nisio's puts Kizu right after Bake and before Nise, while Shaft's puts Kizu after the first season of Owari.
It may sound confusing, so if you have any doubts you can ask! You can also find the watch order online for further clarity.

@@BagusHallim Yes that's right, Bake comes first. You can watch Kizu right after as it gives context on Koyomi's recent past events. Altough I watched Kizu after Owarimonogatari's first season, and I enjoyed the change of pace after the big cliffhanger that happens at the end of Owari.
Ep 12 of bake was one of the best episodes in all of anime

Well for me, the watch order will be the novel release order. Its true watching kizu first will help u understand shinobu in Bake, however u dont know why the mc would save a vampire, to me it would feel strange. But if you watch Bake, by the end you understand mc motivations and how he basically is and the scene in kizu makes more sense.
+1 for novel release order. NISIOISN knew what he was doing. He wanted you to experience Kizumonogatari after Bakemonogatari.
Chronological order also spoils many character arcs and relationships that are intended to be vague and mysterious until the right moment.
Chronological order for a re-watch, because you are going to want to re-watch.
But thats kinda what I like about the series. Many things and motives feel strage at the beginning. Then you learn more about them and the past.
In the end it doesnt really matter. I just dont see why anyone would want to watch it in chronological order

I mean, that's because Bake is the start of the story. People love to act like they can create their own watch orders, but the series itself acknowledges its own watch order within the series. Novel release order is the correct order.

I started watching the Monogatari Series a few weeks ago and I'd say that in my opinion, it's one of the most unique anime out there. The way it presents itself throughout all the episodes is very appealing and every characters are VERY lovable and interesting. Though i know some people are not gonna like the MC😅
Many are not gonna like the anime in General, except maybe the 3 movies where Araragi, shinobu and kotegawa meet. Thoses are the n'est in the serie cause right after that and before that the series just keep blue ballong us for an entire season and just talk talk, talk, talk, and finished with talking. For me , the monogatari series is unique style , animation , story telling , narrating until now. i dont want to call it "refreshing anime" its more likely deep and dark story that you need a lot of understanding to the anime. its pretty fun to watch if you are not easiy get bored to too much dialogue.

IMO, first time viewer should've just watch it on anime release order. Sure you feel like missing some kind of context sometime, but that just make the mystery part even better.
First of all, Monogatari is not for anime newbies. It is a serious story that runs a lot of chapters. If you like animes with real dialogues, a trully interesting story and if you want the whole picture, you need to commit to all the parts. You will enjoy this.

If you’re a dream fan you’re probably just going to become racist after watching this. Or if you say Erm.
Not everyone needs to watch it, this show purposefully gatekeeps itself from tourits. That's the point of all those "ewmahgawd, dees animay so weird and creepy" scenes. So that the people that judge things superficially and without any regard from coherence and context are kept the heck away.
While it favours curious and perceptive watchers.
This being said, i do think everyone should at leas know it exists so they can make the judgment on wether or not they want to give it a go. I just don't want it to become the next target of the "make it accesible for modern audiences" trend that's ruining everything.

Just no. Monogatari is a mystery series. Watching it in chronological order is like watching attack on titan and knowing what's in the basement. Literally ruins the whole show.

NISIOISIN is a god. The Monogatari Series is a Big Brain anime. The Anime Man said, not even Japanese people understand all of Monogatari. NISIOISIN has found so many oddities and aberations from every corner, from every era of Japan. The cultural touchpoints are equally varied. Like I understand a Mega Man reference, but I just accept that many, many more references are just going to fly over my head.
