My mom homeschooled all five of us until high school and the transition from homeschool to high school was a piece of cake for us, taking all AP classes. We all went into college and higher education and got degrees in finance, international business, MD and nursing, and I credit all of that to my mom. None of us lacked social skills. Our parents stressed not only school, but volunteering at nursing homes, the hospital and at the library teaching young children to read. We also got involved in outside sports and all of us were competitive swimmers. We took outsides classes, like Spanish, robotics, etc. to make us well rounded in areas where my mom lacked knowledge in. We were all placed in music classes where even now, I can boast I can play Beethoven and Mozart on the piano haha. We also were involved in 4H and other clubs where we were encouraged to go after roles such as president of the club, etc. We were involved in our Church, in the choir, teaching Sunday school and my brothers were alter boys (Catholic).
I am so grateful for my parents and all they have done for us. Even when we went to school, we still had many of these activities along with paying jobs. I hope to do the same with my children (three under three currently haha)
You are doing a great job, Delilah!

      @@sossoftwhat a ridiculous reach.
The lack of respect for teachers is unbelievable. It’s such a hard and important job to do. People homeschool and so think they know everything and are superior. It’s absolutely ridiculous. There has to be some benchmarks for children, otherwise there would be no way to know if some students had additional needs and needed help. Bore off.

As someone who was homeschooled through all 12 grades I just want to boost your confidence and say this is very similar to how my mom homeschooled me and my 6 siblings!! A mix of traditional, Montessori, learning together - learning with textbooks etc. ! We were very flexible and I appreciated that. My mom was more about giving us the confidence and opportunity to love learning and explore different things than having a strict schedule. Each year can look different depending on your kids needs and that’s okay too. That’s the perk of homeschooling I think!

    • @pixiesanchez9195
      @pixiesanchez9195 Год назад +1

There's actually a book can't remember the name but it mentions the flexibility as you can work longer on things they struggle with then in school. Which is a peak plus you can arrange museum trips with other homeschool families and learn like that too

Yes to more homeschooling content! I have a two year old, and I know next to nothing about homeschooling, so this was so informative to me. Maybe as part of your next video addressing the “why” or your homeschooling journey, you could explain where you even started on your research and prep process. I’m in a position that I wouldn’t even know what to Google to point me in the right direction. This video was so eye opening, and I’d love to know where it all started and how your knowledge of the homeschooling curriculum and schedule developed incrementally. Thank you, again!

I cannot begin to explain my excitement seeing this video pop up in my feed-especially from you!! I'm a new homeschooling mama too, this will be my first year homeschooling my oldest for Kindergarten and I don't have any family or friends who homeschool so I've been researching all I can and finally settled on the CMEC (Charlotte Mason Educational Center) which isn't a curriculum, but more of a community focusing on the philosophy of teaching with tons of resources that really equip moms to teach which is amazing!
This video is SO helpful as well! Thank you for this encouragement, all the resources, and definitely don't discount yourself just because you're new to homeschooling and your kids are young. Well welcome to where we all were when we started homeschooling. No one knows what they are doing when they start, and over time, you will see what works and what doesn't. I also never thought I would homeschool. I knew so many kids who were homeschooled and mothers who were homeschooling them, so I said, "Well, why not?"
The biggest statement you will hear is, "I could never do that," in which I chuckle, since I didn't think I could either.
"Gather Round" sounds awesome. I love the "swat the word." You definitely already look way more organized than I was when I started out! You are doing an amazing job.
I need to look into this since I am going to be homeschooling this baby in my womb. . .and my others two will both be in high school this next school year.
I used Rod & Staff with various portions of their curriculum (I am also Mennonite and so is that curriculum, so that has partly why I chose it). They have adorable readers your daughter might enjoy! I loved their English curriculum but it was heavy duty at times and my sons struggled with it sometimes (but they recently thanked me for it).
Definitely recommend looking into: The Good and Beautiful, Beautiful Feet, Horizons/Alpha Omega, Christian Light, and Monarch. When they are older, using Teaching Textbooks (online math) was really loved by my older sons. I created my own history curriculum here and there.
Not sure if Canada supports Hoopla, but it is a digital library app/online site attached to your own local library. You can take out 8 free audio books and digital ebooks per month. I use it constantly and we used it for lots of books for years, but I also still read to them even when they are the ages they are. Never stop.

My son was born very early and has been a bit delayed a bit. He caught up so much since going to kindergarten. He absolutely loves it. He learns so much better when others teach him and the school took it very serious that my son needs extra help. He also continues to get occupational therapy and speech therapy. I volunteer 2-3 times a month in his class and according to the schedule someone is there volunteering every day which is amazing because the teacher separates a specific child from the group to work on specific right outside the room same with the teacher assistant. She really tries to work on every child's struggles and get the volunteers help as much as possible. I tried to do some bookwork with my son and he is not interested with me at all. Even before he started school and this is why I am soooo thankful that he does well with public school and that it has helped him socially as well.

AAAH the relief i felt when i found out about home education as something we can do here legally and with suvh a relaxed set of requirements. I was struggling to find any Montessori schools anywhere other than in London and all the alternative schools were too farvfrom us nothing worth the separationduring this age. She's going to be 3 this month and i was pregnant at the time thinking we had to enroll her somewhere but i am so happy i found out education is only compulsory from 5 and then it was just gathering what else i needed to continue doing Montessori with her with more preparation in the 3 to 6 class items and my own skills in being her guide. I got a printer so i can mostly DIY everything. I then later in the park met another home ed mum she did it for a few years but she added me to the he ed group WhatsApp and then i found a mixed age group for kids from infancy to 5 i am so happy and grateful to God for this lifestyle that i couldn't imagine. I am so happy that my concerns based on attachment theory and the standerd i have for her education and development motivated me towards this.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We have a 5 year old, a 3 year old and an 11mth old. We are seriously looking into homeschool and this is one of the view recent videos I have seen that has truly helped ease some of my anxiety about it. I know it is the right route for our family but still a little scary.

We use gather round also. If you choose to use letter and numbers with T, E would still love it! Also, I think letters and numbers 3 & 4 is a lot about writing so I could see if being a good first grade option.

What about Otto player instead of Audible? That way it’s screen free and they can manage it themselves. 😍

Thank you SO MUCH for this video!!! I taught 1st & 4th grade for a few years, then switched jobs to be home with my kids. I’m thankful it lined up because me and my husband feel like homeschooling is what the Lord wants us to do. Despite my teaching experience, I have felt overwhelmed and unsure how to go about homeschooling. This video was so helpful, I love the resources you discussed and the idea of a relaxed schedule. I would love to see more videos like this and I’m 100% subscribing 🥲. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful home

I meant to watch this right when it came out to help out your algorithm, but with two young kids, that's hard to do with a video I really wanted to pay attention to. I'm so excited about homeschooling content. I'm planning on VERY casually starting preschool with my three year old in the fall, but I'm also having babies #3 and #4 in September, so I don't know if 3 yo preschool will happen at all. He's so smart and I think it will be a good form of one on one time with him, but I'm definitely not putting pressure on myself to do it. It's something I'm excited to start. Hopefully my one year old will continue with her great naps. Anyways, I really appreciate this video. My MIL bought me some curriculum for 3 year old preschool, so it will be a good starting point even if we don't fully get into it this year.

I find this so intruiging, where I am from homeschooling is not allowed so this is like discovering a whole new world. It sounds like you are doing an awesome job Delilah (even though it doesn't mean much given my lack of knowledge😂)

I would be super interested in a video on how you got your youngest to fall asleep by himself. I see him do it when you put him in the crib awake for naps, bedtime I think too. It amazes me because I always have to nurse my one year old for a half hour before she falls asleep and I don't know if there's any way to change it unless I do some form of sleep training.

I'd like more homeschooling content! I have 3 kids under 3 so, while we are nowhere near homeschooling, I struggle to even read a book or do any activity without constant interruption. My oldest is mellow and has always sat and listened. My 20 month old is loud, vivacious, energetic and only wants to be physically active. I know he's NORMAL for his age but I struggle to balance the needs of my almost 3 year old, who wants to sit and do puzzles, and my 20 month old, who only wants to throw them. I feel like it deprives my older one from doing learning activities (that he wants to do-i don't force them). Any tips??
