Love this - not only is this my favorite plane on my favorite airline, 33L departures fly directly over my apartment (I’m fortunate enough that I can plane spot from my bedroom) I live about 2 miles off the end of of 33L, so when they fly past my bedroom they’re only at about 1300 ft

About 20 years ago, I flew ATL - FRA, and then FRA - BLR - and two weeks later, returning the same - in Lufthansa A340s. Very pleasant flights and top-notch service in economy. Made me a fan of the A340 and Lufthansa.
Die Trent 500er hören sich ja soo hervorragend an. Das muss doch bestimmt schon ein schönes Gefühl sein A340 zu fliegen, dennoch werden sie leider immer weiter aussortiert... Danke für so ein tolles Video!!
What a great video! I love the AIRBUS A340-600, it is a BIG MONSTER! ✈️👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻🤩 I love the sound! 🔊🔊😍 👋🏻 Greetings from 🇪🇸 Spain! 🙏🏻 Thank you very much for upload!
One of my favorite parts of this departure is the various sights it overflies -- Tufts and Harvard, the cities of Somerville, Cambridge, Watertown, Newton, and -- best of all -- my house! I've had the fortune of seeing closeup the A340-600 and A380 do this SID out of Logan and I'm happy to finally see it from a cockpit POV.
Awesome perspective, thanks for sharing! Would you be okay with me featuring a part of this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description.
Have been on Lufthansa A346 once on my way back to home(Munich to Seoul) and it was like 10 years ago i reckon. Quite surprising that A346 isn't still retired - and it's such a great news i guess. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Käpitan.
A 340-600? What a treat. Much better variant over the -300 in terms of power and efficiency. Great video, always love seeing this in real time as opposed to a simulator.
Beautifull early evening winter Departure from my old hometown love how the sunlight can linger for a long while this time of Year greetings from Lake's area New Hampshire !
So happy to hear these are still flying!!! I flew an A340-6 with Lufthansa, Newark to Munich, back in 2014 and it remains my favorite wide-body aircraft to-date 🤩sad that the 4-engine jets are being phased out
i have experience through microsoft flight sim and it felt so satisfying knowing i did that exact take off. i can visualize it from your view.. also its my home airport :D
Longest taxi ride we get at Logan. It's a hike. I always think maybe it would have been faster to take a cab to Los Angeles. The winner or me might be Frankfurt 36. Over a bridge and halfway to Switzerland, I swear.
I bet the view out the left window of the city was beautiful! I've flown on the -600 to/from BOS twice in the past 3 years. I'm sad to hear it's being phased out over the next year. I would have thought the -300 model would have been put on the chopping block instead.
The view of Boston from above is always stunning and I really enjoy flying there! It is a bit sad that the -600 will leave the fleet soon but the cost to operate and maintain them seems to be getting higher and higher...
It's amazing how much one learns from MSFS 2020 and now 2024. I'm no pilot but I'm very familiar with the instruments and flight deck activities taking place in this video almost to the point of predicting the actions of the FO and the CPT. Just to be sure, was the FO the pilot flying and the CPT the pilot monitoring? I know it's just a sim, and again, I would never be able to fly these aircraft without the years of proper training and experience, but it makes one appreciate the hard work you do. Also makes one appreciate the value a flight crew of two brings for managing these very complex aircraft.
That is a small landing aircraft on the crossing runway and we were cleared after it has touched down and passed a certain distance from the crossing point which is normal procedure at BOS to enhance traffic flow.
Hi there! I just watched your video, and that catch was incredible! Would it be alright if I featured it in my next video? I’ll make sure to credit your channel in the description and include a link to the original video. Let me know if that works for you. Thanks so much! 😊
We had to reach a minimum altitude of 5000ft at point COUSY and in order to climb a bit steeper, I kept the flaps at one and flew the respective maneuvering speed which is S-speed or 212 kts in that case.
Wow amazing flow, looks 99% similar to the A320 one I’m familiar with from the outside, what’s the reason for the 10s pause between the start sequence of ENG 1&2 or 3&4? Is it part of the SOP or a personal style? On other Airbus 4-engines for example A380 there’s no need to wait, there’s enough pressure to start both of them at the same time.
The start sequence of the engines is laid down in our SOPs and the pause between the start of ENG 1 and 2 - as well as the other two - is due to the requirement to let N3 rpm rise to at least 10% before starting the second engine. Also, there is a pause between left side (1&2) and right side (3&4) - we have to wait until the start sequence for the left-hand engines is finished before advancing to the other side. The reason for this is that Airbus wants pilot's to concentrate on the sequence of one side only in case there is a malfunction and we have to deal with a procedure to fix it.
Thanks for the feedback! I am trying to offer something that might appeal a wide audience and from what I have learned so far, longer videos are not very popular. But if there is enough respective feedback, I can certainly provide longer videos!
We have a system that is called TCAS - traffic alert and collision avoidance system - that is showing other aircraft on the navigation display which helps a bit to know who else is around. It also generates warnings if traffic is too close, f.e..
Thanks for making these. I have the Toliss A346 and use these videos to help me fly her more realistic. What will you fly when they retire these birds?
That sounds good! As the service life of these beauties is nearing its end, there are internal talks about where to position the flight crews. In my case, it looks like it will either be the A350 or B787 but things are constantly changing.
This is an amazing POV video!! Definitely subbed to this channel, and question about the A340-600, how long would you say the A340-600 is compared to the 777-300er?? Ik they’re both incredibly long planes but I guess a good question is which one is bigger?
The B777-300ER is an amazing aircraft as well and indeed quite large. Length-wise it does fall a bit behind the A340-600 - 73,90m for the 777 and 75,27m for the A346, as far as I know... But in most configurations it does hold a bit more passengers than the Airbus.
@@PapaPaddeThe body of the 777-300er is more of a combined jumbo jet style with a wide body module, I think they looked at the 747 and 767 when it came to width and length wise. Height wise, it’s not as tall as a 747, it’s a little close but length wise, it does surpass the 747-400, and the range too is 13,000 something for the 777-300er I think? Or is it over 7,000? I do believe they’re capable of doing 16 or 17 hour flights! A source I came across for the a340-600 stated that it only goes 7,000 miles for range, I’m not entirely sure if it’s true but what’s the mile range on an A340-600
We had to reach COUSY at or above 5000ft and in order to keep the climb rate higher and forward speed a bit lower, I traded speed for height to make that constraint. 212 kts was the so-called S-speed, the maneuvering speed with flaps 1+F.
Sehr gern! ;-)
A really nice video, thanks. Out of curiosity, is there a very noticeable difference in take-off performance between the A340-300 and the A340-600? Thankyou!
Oh yes it is. The -300 is pretty underpowered. When they are close to MTOW they struggle quite a lot. In Zürich they have to change runways sometimes to use the longest available.
Nice, thanks! So far, a trip to DTW is planned to happen for me in january but I am not sure if I will be able to capture approach or landing with my camera because on that trip I will be on the observer seat only. we will see... ;-)
As a aircraft mechanic, upon landing if I request a visit to cockpit, u guys allow with no hesitation? LH is in the bucket to fly A343 with those CRT's ahah
Yes, this departure seems to be a bit counter-intuitive but its reason is that they want departing traffic to circumnavigate the airport in the west and south before proceeding to the east or north-east to avoid the arrival traffic for runway 22L and 27.
Ich habe dein Video geliebt. Ein guter Winkel und eine spektakuläre Bodenfreiheit. Derzeit besuche ich die Pilotenschule, um Berufspilot zu werden. Haben Sie Empfehlungen?
That is normal procedure at BOS airport. ATC uses very close spacing of landing and departing aircraft in order to be able to handle more traffic. The landing aircraft has to pass a certain area after landing to enable the controller to give a safe takeoff clearance for the waiting aircraft. You can hear the controller hesitating a bit before giving the clearance, as well as giving us information about the landing craft. Also, there is an integrated warning system consisting of red lights on the runway which are lit up as long as there is conflicting traffic in a certain area on a crossing runway.
After careful consideration I have decided to halt my pursuit of commercial pilot after watching this video. I wouldnt be even able to navigate away from the gate to the runway after pushoff🤪🤪🤪
No, no, do not lose faith! :-D You will get used to that and learn everything deeded during training. And we have charts helping us navigate... If that is your dream, I would recommend pursuing it!! ;-)

Wow, that is amazing! That must be a nice place to live!
Woah hey neighbor! I also live about 2 miles off the departure end of 33L
How's the noise? Is it disturbing or do you manage it? I'm not sure when, or if they do at all, stop the flights, but how is it at night?
I’m off the Fellsway so it’s always a treat watching the rush hour departures while having a smoke outside.
Lucky duck!
Love the A340. Glad they are still flying...
Sadly Lufthansa plans to retire their entire A340 fleet by autumn this year, last european operator of the -600 variant.
Perfect angle and no music that's all we want!

Grew up outside of Boston, it always amazed me that A340’s could fit with its wingspan. Love the hand flying :-)
The one time I flew on a 747, we landed on 4R at Logan, and ran all the way out to the end. I was shocked at how close we were to the water.
@ I bet! Quite a displaced threshold
This is absolutely amazing
Logan is my home airport and whenever I travel I just look out the window and listen to ATC
Same. Always a pleasure coming home to BOS Logan. Lots of options 😎

Wow. I know that Exact gate and plane from when I flew to Munich last summer. Great to see the old bird still keeping the same route! Love boston too!
Wow, this is literally a wonderful gift for me as an A340 fan (it's my dream to fly one as a pilot!). Thank you sir!
You are most welcome! :-)

So cool! Thank you for taking us along!
My pleasure!
Definitely added to favorite playlist.

PS: was this recently ?
Yes, about a week ago. ;-)
Cool. First time I've seen a derated climb indication on the PFD
I love the old A320-A340 flight systems
I really like the camera view!
The A-340 is my favorite (modern) airplane. I've flown on the -300, but haven't had the opportunity to fly on the -600... yet! Thanks/Danke!
Glad that you like it!
Thanks for this beautiful video, most wonderful❤
13:31 did that vehicle just cross the runway while the a340 was given clearance for TO?
This view is better than the others

Love this view, makes me feel like I'm flying myself! Also gorgeous lighting with the sunset
Glad you enjoyed it!
The colored lights IN the runway - how the heck o they do that?
I work at the fire station on the runway. Sometimes at night before bed I will plane spot in the engine bay.
My Toyota truck has a cassette player and I struggled to learn how to use it......... Pilots have a very hard job. Wow.

On this particular departure the FO was pilot monitoring and the CPT (myself) was pilot flying.
Hopefully going flying on one in july from KBOS to EDDF!
beautiful. beautiful. feel free to disarm spoilers after rotation tho.
Thank you!
According to normal procedures the spoilers are disarmed during the acceleration flow pattern after flaps are 0…😉
Great Video! I noticed the red barber pole was down around 230 KTS until around 5000ft. What was the limiting factor for speed in this case? thanks
Thank you!
Yes, indeed - as we were still flying with slats and flaps extended (1+F), the maximum speed was around 230 kts.
What's with the car driving across the runway at 13:28 as the pilots are being cleared for takeoff???
That is a small landing aircraft on the crossing runway and we were cleared after it has touched down and passed a certain distance from the crossing point which is normal procedure at BOS to enhance traffic flow.
