    There's a LOT more to say about motivation, so don't get the impression that this model is all there is to it. But I think it's a good start.
    Also, anyone else notice how I didn't discuss how to increase intrinsic enjoyment at the end? Hmm...

    A good summary of a big motivational framework--with excellent clear examples. Well done!

    something that is really funny is that i'm watching your video so what motivate me to do, first for the attainment goal aspect : i completed the video about useful things a video that i wanted to watch. intrinsic enjoyment : i really enjoy while i'm watching because i do understand things that they were vague to me. instrumental goal : if i did finish this video i will be able to find motivation and why i do things. i just applied what the video is about, and reason why i'm here at the first place

    I appreciate the systematic way to think about motivation. It made me think of the trend of gamification that seems to align with your suggestions but never really stuck.

      Thanks!
      It has taken me a while, too, to figure out some more systematic way of thinking about it. Motivation is pretty complex, and I find myself going back to basics over and over again when I think about it.

    This was helpful. It made me think about how I might have better managed and motivated some of my more difficult classes. I need to do better.

    I can attest to motivation increasing once you know more about a subject like organic chemistry, for me instead it was a law course. When I studied a polsci we were required to take on class on legal theory every single semester. I HATED the classes, they were so boring and all the terms were meaningless to me, I just couldnt connect it to real life. But later on I grew an appreciation for all of it. It helped me understand more about how our society works, it helped me understand why certain things happened politically, why these procedures exist, why that institution exists.

    What about motivational speeches 🤔

    • @benjaminkeep
      @benjaminkeep 2 года назад +14

      This may be a bit cynical, but I find motivational speeches to mostly be helpful just in the moment. Like if they're motivating you to do something right now ("Charge the enemy!"), they can be effective. But I don't think the effect typically lasts in the same way as some of the things I talk about in the video. Could just be me though. : )

    The big thing to do or otherwise don't waste your time is convince employers that education is about signaling now as it has always been the past 2 millenna and that people can master multiple skills and book smarts and common sense being completely mutually exclusive is a just straight up st00pid notion. You educators are going to absolutely nothing to defend yourselves? Industry has been running an completely successful smear campaign because school doesn't teach highly specific vocational skills that change every single year to completely different highly specific vocational skills based on what lobotomized corporate moron's mercurial whims desire in between lines of Tony Montana powder. Also people hate organic chemistry because it is 90% wrote memorization and they would really prefer it to be 100% wrote memorization
