TanaCon CEO Michael Weist's Overly Defensive Body Language is Revealing Nonverbal Analyst Reacts

  • TanaCon was a disaster and the creators of the failed event have received a substantial amount of backlash for more or less scamming thousands of fans and leaving them in the hot summer sun without any shelter or amenities. Michael Weist (co-creator of the event) went on Dr. Phil to "try to heal." It didn't go well, and people have asked me to analyze his nonverbal communication to see what we can see!

hi im Amanda in the interview. I wasnt “coached” necessarily because I am a youtuber and made it clear what I wanted to say to Michael but my assigned producer was clearly trying to “hype me up” in a sense. I was not told to be polite, the smiling and all that was me being nervous about being on tv and Im just fairly expressive with my face but especially when Im being told a load of lies like Michael was. Also the closed mouth thing was a tick of sorts at the time because I was on Acutane which made my lips incredibly dry. Loved this breakdown!

Amanda is a RUclipsr: SwellEntertainment - she did at least one video on Tanacon when she went, talking about it. I DO think, to an extent, the smiling thing is just something she does, it's a pretty normal expression for her to have in her videos, so I'm unsure how much coaching she got. Depending on an NDA and such, though, it's very possible she will make a video talking about the behind-the-scenes stuff in regards to being on Dr Phil, and she'll likely mention any coaching, like she did for Lily Singh's show.

Even if he wasn't, he's already good friends with Tana and he already did a doc on Tanacon which, shocker, helped Tana dodge a lot of the backlash from the event. Dr. Phil was the next best thing and he's probably hoping for Bahd Bahbie style infamy now that he can coast off of for his next project

Using suicidal thoughts and tendencies as a tool to manipulate people is sickening. I have had multiple experiences where someone has tried to use that against me and manipulate me, including a guy trying to force me into a relationship using his past attempted suicide. It sucked. And to see that tactic here is disgusting to me. If you have suicidal thoughts, your feelings are valid and should be addressed, but they should not be used as a weapon.

I would say she absolutely 100% did catch a lot of heat about this, but the reality is, a lot of what she was saying during the Shane series, about Michael, is 100% true. Hence why she subsequently caught less heat and was exonerated, in a sense. At the end of the day, she showed proof/receipts of Michael lying both on camera, and in contract. And she did later on admit to wrongdoing and responsibility, as the head of the whole operation and as the one who hired Michael. She admits that was a mistake. She admits that because of this colossal mistake, tons of her fans suffered and were unfairly hurt. She knows that, and has owned up to it 100%, and says it's the biggest fuck up of her career, bc the last thing she's ever wanted to do, is hurt her fans. She's also openly admitted she would never organize an event like that again, bc as a very irresponsible person, who is late to everything, she is probably the last one who should ever host a convention, lol.
I think she 100% caught the right amount of heat for her wrongdoing, and has rectified herself since then in many ways. People who've worked with her can testify to that, 100%. And honestly, half of the other drama she stirs up, is 100% fake and doesn't actually affect people, because it's all promo or just free publicity. (Like her relationship with Jake Paul, which is complete BS.) That's kinda her whole shtick now, to stir up drama, but most of it's not even real and doesn't hurt anybody. Tana-Con on the other hand was real, and it did hurt and affect real people. She knows that, and she knows she messed up colossally. She got a shitton of hate and death threats because of it, and lots of heat. But I'd say, the truth always comes out. And anyone saying Michael was the true victim, or she's lying when she's saying he was deceitful and manipulative, can now see she was pretty much telling the truth about that the entire time. But she was warned by people who had worked with her that he was an awful event manager and shouldn't be trusted, and she admits to making the mistake of ignoring the red flags and choosing him anyway. She knows that's on her. She knows she didn't do enough while the convention was going on, and partied away her troubles because it was "her birthday." She knows those were all bad decisions, and she regrets them.

And yeaaa this has nothing been extremely interesting because I love psychology of any kind but socially this has made a big difference. I’m learning to navigate easier socially. I can pick up on some stuff, now I’m just trying to not be so hyper aware of every movement or something someone does.

For context I have experience staffing at various conventions. It is STANDARD for both clients AND staff to have sleeping arrangements set up beforehand. A good manager and con head/manager would never have to give someone's bed for another.
This lends itself further to their planning being done in about a month, as contracts would be set up with the hotel for a staff and guest block in the designated hotel (or another nearby, for larger conventions,) and the budget allocated for such. They get a bit of a better deal due to bringing in guests from around the country, in the case of multi-day cons, though many will come and check in a day before to avoid traveling and attending all at once. So if Michael is managing and helping put together conventions and is regularly giving up beds, this is just further indicators of poor planning and (likely) budgeting.

"I'm sorry YOU" is definitely not an apology! Pro Tip:
It's what a good customer service person will say to you when you're being a little bit over the top about your demands for service or returns. Many of you may associate you as a "Karen still at a 4 of 10"

      @florenceashford6861 3 года назад +1

@@MamaPinks oh yes I totally understand, my apologies! And yes, when it's in the Karen context and being said to me, like, "I'm sorry you feel that way.", I'm always tempted to answer back and say, "Why? I'm not sorry for having a perfectly rational response and indignance to your horrible behaviour."
I swear, everytime. I've even gotten, "I'm sorry you can't comprehend the simple saying, "the customer is always right!"", when a woman refused to pay for their bill (a walk-in, party of 9 who we accepted despite them not making any reservations) simply because the woman was mad we didn't have a "round" dining table. The only tables we've ever had were square shaped that we put together for her and her companions so they could all be seated together.
So yes, I feel you 100 percent and I agree with you completely.

They have said the name. It's only the music and sound effects play during interviews and stuff that gets copy right struck. Cut that part out and the rest can remain.

15:00 When I apologized for how my sister felt instead of for my actions, I knew EXACTLY what I was doing. I didn't want to fool my sister, either. I just wanted my parents to let me get out of time-out without having to say an apology I didn't mean. I was also a child who hadn't yet developed the ability to let go of my stubbornness and try to see from another's perspective when I felt strongly about my own position.
Nowadays, if I wasn't ready to apologize for something, I think I'd just wait to say anything until I'd had time for some self-examination and a talk with someone I trust who won't be a yes man.* Because I'm an adult. If I was never ready to apologize properly, I'd have the self-awareness not to go on TV. But what do I know? I'm not in the public eye.
*Ironically, nowadays, that would be my sister. I trust her to love me AND to call me out on BS. I know who to approach if I just want to feel good about my questionable decisions-and it's definitely not my little sis.

Me and a few friends atarted an anime convd tion called Kinyobi con several years ago. It was an anime convention. Even with out first year, using our community college for the event, we had to plan out rooms, whefe people could and could not go, provide food (which was free) and areas for bands to perform, artist ally, and so on and so on. We had tags people could wear around their necks to proove the bought a ticket and so could come and go and eat as they please all day. This was a group of twnty somethings in an college club on anime and video games, and we managed to pull this off not only for over a dozzen years, we managed to do this smoothly when a wedding was also schedualed for the same day when we moved to a hotel and made deals for the returaunt and rates for getting a room.
And this guy who says he is an expert in the industry can't even pull that off...bull and shit
