Hello there! One question on REPLACE FUNCTION pls, if i want to extract names from email addresses and start number isnt consistent in all the data, whats the best function to do that ? Thank you for your response !
As stated on Excel " Use SUBSTITUTE when you want to replace specific text in a text string; use REPLACE when you want to replace any text that occurs in a specific location in a text string."
Hi Adeel.. assuming you have a text string in cell A1, the following formulas (either one) entered in a cell would produce TRUE if any or all of the above words were found in the string in A1 and FALSE if not found: =OR(COUNTIF(A1,"*how*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*what*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*if*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*buy*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*etc*")) or.. =SUMPRODUCT(--ISNUMBER(SEARCH({"how","what","if","buy","etc"},A1)))>0 Using the SUMPRODUCT formula, you could put the list of words you want to search in a range on the worksheet such as C1:C5 and replace the array constant {"how","what","if","buy","etc"} with the coordinates of the range, as in: =SUMPRODUCT(--ISNUMBER(SEARCH(C1:C5,A1)))>0 I'm sure there are other ways to set this up. But, the formulas above work as described, assuming I understood your question. Good luck!
So useful this was...
Esp..Proper,find, replace & substitute...
Thanks 👍🏼
Hi Sumit.. thanks for the review of TEXT functions in EXCEL. Thanks also for offering this useful and instructive course from free. Thumbs up!
Proper! Love this formula.
Thanks for the this course.
If you include the possible cases where some of these functions are used, then this course will be complete.

whats the diiference between substitute and replace?
As stated on Excel " Use SUBSTITUTE when you want to replace specific text in a text string; use REPLACE when you want to replace any text that occurs in a specific location in a text string."
What is the formula for searching multiple words in data. I want to Seach or compare data starting with these intents ( how what if buy etc )
Hi Adeel.. assuming you have a text string in cell A1, the following formulas (either one) entered in a cell would produce TRUE if any or all of the above words were found in the string in A1 and FALSE if not found:
=OR(COUNTIF(A1,"*how*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*what*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*if*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*buy*"),COUNTIF(A1,"*etc*"))
or..
=SUMPRODUCT(--ISNUMBER(SEARCH({"how","what","if","buy","etc"},A1)))>0
Using the SUMPRODUCT formula, you could put the list of words you want to search in a range on the worksheet such as C1:C5 and replace the array constant {"how","what","if","buy","etc"} with the coordinates of the range, as in:
=SUMPRODUCT(--ISNUMBER(SEARCH(C1:C5,A1)))>0
I'm sure there are other ways to set this up. But, the formulas above work as described, assuming I understood your question. Good luck!
use the find formula
Just use, find function.
Most are of no use probably except find / Replace.
