When I was a kid, seeing a house behave like that really giving me nightmares, but I also feel bad for both Constance and her husband. (spoiler) when the old man saying goodbye to Constance's soul when she fading away is both haunting and tragic, but you also feel a bit heart warm as like the old man said they finally free.
This simple “Monster House” movie is a hidden, under-appreciated animated classic. Nobody talks about how solid, creepy, and enjoyable this movie really is. The acting is stellar, especially for its time. Everything is done well, especially the house itself. As a kid, I had so many nightmares from this house coming to kill me.(Still occurs on occasion) Monster House remains one of my favorite movies ever made, for the style of the designs, the great characters, the solid scares, great soundtrack, wonderful celebrity cameos, awesome action, and amazing story. Your Villain Review for Constance was very well made and I fully approve, as a Monster House enthusiast. I am DEFINITELY looking forward to more Villain Reviews.
Constance overreacts seeing the Innocent people thinking they are hurting her but they're not leading to her hatred towards them while possessed the house defending Horace Nebercraker but he learned to let go when freed since 45 years trapped by her.
“Innocent”? Is that supposed to be funny?! They were, in fact, hurting her both physically and psychologically; they were using her as their plaything, treating her like an animal-right down to having her spend the majority of her life locked up in a cage-and not giving a flying fuck about her well-being or humanity! She more than likely received injuries and bruises from the various things people threw at her, and developed psychological trauma from her experiences. Practically her entire LIFE had been nothing but mental and physical torture at the hands of just about EVERY HUMAN BEING EVER outside of Nebercracker, all because she was different from everyone else, and you have the audacity to say that these people were “innocent”, or that she was “overreacting” when becoming outraged with them?!
There are two changes I'd make to the movie. Change the ending credits, no one comes back and in stead show clips implying more houses are hunted. For me that would make the film more horrifying and a little more grim if the victims were actually dead and there were more like constance out there
From what I've heard, they did it to have a lower rating so kids could watch it; since technically nobody died. It was actually smart to reveal it in the credits, because most people would've turned the movie off by now.
This was my favorite film as a kid. Still is as an adult. I remember watching this around every Halloween and never getting bored. This was my first exposure to the horror genre as a whole. What makes Monster House so good is how it creates an unsettling atmosphere and the suspense that builds up as the house becomes more aggressive as the film progresses. The backstory of Constance getting humiliated by children and developing a burning hatred towards them makes the audience sympathetic towards her and Horace. When you watch this movie as an adult, you realize he was trying to protect the children from her. Such an underrated childhood gem.
in the video game the house knows that the kids are inside of it and Constance seperates them causing the whole video game to happen , she uses the furniture and many more appliances to attack them although my annoyance with the video game is that Nebbercracker doesnt show up for the climax of the video game
I don't think this has much to do with it, but the more I watch this movie I'm surprised that it's not rated PG-13. Because, yes it is scary, and there's a few jokes that are kind of, really? All in all, good Halloween movie.
