When The System was King and Jeff waned in on the action in the urban radio market. RIP Bruce Carter on drums. First time this song was performed was in a bar called Key Largo in Portland Oregon. I was there that night. Oregon
I was in the 2nd grade when this song came out. I vividly remember always hearing this some on the radio, especially when my dad used to drop my mom off at Soft Sheen Products on 87th Street in Chicago where she worked then.
I have great memories also being from Philly Stationed in Coast Guard on Govenors Island and Brooklyn Air station from 79-86 saw Jeff and Stanley Clarke on a Sunday evening awesome concert last minute right before leaving good thing NY was too expensive for wife and Daughter single was different
Aah a fabulous song by Ms.. Karyn White & collaboration with Jeff Lorber. She still looks & sound Gr8. A Classy Sistah. The song was 🔥 then & still listening 2 it. Timeless music never fades out. One hit wonders & superficial fake so call female artist * And I use loosely, , this is a DIVA who has substance. Sistah/ 👸🏿 💐. 🙏🏾❣🖤💚
If art imitates life then this song is a sign that the world was a happier and more positive place back in the 80's. Love the production and the vocal phrasing is perfect. In fact the verses actually sound nicer than the chorus which is unusual.
@@moniquemitchell5092, You are right, I would go back and tell my 16-year-old self, sex and weed aren't what it's all cracked up to be, and avoid a woman named Natalie sticking to acting and sports are better for you.
My man Jeff Lorber. Been a fan since his Jeff Lorber Fusion albums especially a song he did called "Proteus". Love that song. When I became a professional songwriter he played keyboards on 2 of my songs: "Emotional" by Jeffrey Osborne and "After Hours" by Chico DeBarge. On "After Hours" Jeff played a tasty piano solo towards the end of the song that is on the record. We kept the tape rolling after the final chorus with just the bass and drum machine and as an unplanned ad lib he played one of the craziest jazz funk piano solos over top the groove I've ever heard. 1 TAKE!!! I still have the cassette we made in the studio in my storage unit. It never made the final record but watching him do it live in the studio is a moment I will always remember. Dude is on another level on the keys!!! JL 🎹❤️🔥
I sang this song to the man in the record shop because I didn’t know the name ... well my singing did it and I bought the Cassette tape ... cassette hat long ago lol 2929 still love it!
I remember this song in 1986 I was 16 years old in high school. I loved the song and I remember the night time video, featuring a beautiful singer,Karyn White.I thought that she was q beautiful model in the video. This sing was so catchy with the beats. It's been a favorite song of mine ever since 1986.Great song 🎵 💛💛💛💛
I still play this in my jeep. Keyboards are sick on this track and of course Karyn put her killer vocals on this. Oh sh*t let me slow down before I get a ticket😂
This was my jam back in the fall of 86.. Jeff Lorber had the Midas touch during that time..Karyn's vocals and looks were on the top of the charts the 80's were a great decade of fun, music and film..man I miss the old school.. still rocking this in 2020
This song reminds me as of 1986 when I get to Seattle for the first time. Situation around me was totally different from what I had in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was just like a turning point in my life. Facts of Life.
A funky composition that melts the musical soul, How rare. Remember hearing this my senior yr I believe and was dying to find out whose vocals were with Jeff lorber. Only other voice that immediately caught me as such was the great Whitney Houston. Whitney, Natalie and Karyn can have my musical ear all and every day. Lol eyes too
I always liked this song!! I didn't realize Karen Whyte/White was the singer! She was starting to get more noticed during this time!? I didn't know she wrote a song for Stephanie Mills either! This keyboard player prob ranks with Paul Hardcastle!? I remember the video also!
Jeff Lieberman & Karen white watch out!! for the perfect best of love matches, their just giving you a driving beat and some great Karen white female vocals topping it off!! Smashing!!!
I love Karyn so much this song is taking me back to my younger self high school heartbreak hanging out with friends giggling and smiling ohh those days were more peaceful then now oh I see the year this were released and I didn't know anything of this song til the 90s starting high school then time flies
1986. Great song from my childhood. Karyn White was a star in the making during the latter part of 1988 into the early 1992 just when commercial pop was getting outdated due to grunge.
Born in 85 so I was 1 when this came out, just heard it on seriusxm, I really think my favorite music is 80''s music, although 90's was lit too, 80's had better music, buts its close.
I remember when I got this song from Bo Crane Record Pool when Clarence Reid (BLOW FLY) was giving us the music to promote in Miami the 305 is alive & well
Yes, but these lyrics tho. From the beginning "you heard about my reputation you may think i'm as cold as ice. To the ending " don"t waste my time wirh empty conversation only takes me half the way." So much more impactful in my older years😃😃 still dancing tho like I did as a teen.
I love R&B from the early to mid 80's!!!
Simply put - the team of Jeff Lorber & Karyn White = Musical PERFECTION - Thank You for the musical Memories!
This song brings me back to another time !!!! It still sounds good 🎉
When The System was King and Jeff waned in on the action in the urban radio market. RIP Bruce Carter on drums. First time this song was performed was in a bar called Key Largo in Portland Oregon. I was there that night.
Oregon
Loved the system too!!
Anything Jeff Lorber touched during this period was classic.
More like EVERYTHING! Play on words. 🤣🤣🤣
I guess I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Derrick Stefan Flixportal xD
@David Marley thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it !!
@Derrick Stefan you are welcome =)
I really miss this era @ the music. Such a much simpler time.
Man I miss the 80's. No tattoos, no drama, no weaves, just clean fun. The women were just gorgeous in the 80's.
I am still gorgeous. NO tattoos, weaves. Just clean. :()
@@tallyflower1337 Wow, really?

+maccagrabme You are so right! About the world being a happier place in the 80's. It is reflected in most genres of music at the time.
Not quite all that "happier." I was there. If people dug beyond surfaces...
Yes, it was a happier world then. And the music reflected it. I wanna go back even if it's just for one day. 🎶🎵🎤🎹🎸🎷📻🥁🎶🎵

4:20.. those killer keyboard hits, and Karyn's wispy, clear, urbane moments of melisma. just golden.

A classic music
I wonder when this song came out, if they knew it would be a precursor for the New Jack Swing sound
Never even considered that
Janet Jackson Control album!!!!
It began R&B transition from Quiet Storm to more synth and TR-808 heavy, street/urban sound.
R&B Dance enjoyed a brief period of rule, from 1981-1989. Sonic and production values were unsurpassed back then.
