I have a north facing planter at 8300 feet in Colorado. I have tried for 5 years to get something to grow in the planters. I have gone to high altitude plant experts, all to no avail. Then one day, these cleome appeared. I thought it was a weed, but they had these beautiful purple flowers, so I just let them grow. Now they have filled in and have been blooming all summer. I noticed the seed pods and am excited to harvest them. They really are special. Thanks for showing me how.
I wait to separate the seeds from the pods in the sack in the cold damp oregon winter sitting in my recliner. Brightens my day. Spring is on its way soon.
I am so happy to find your video! A friend sent me some of her seeds from last year. I tried direct sowing but was not successful. I also started some of them in 4 x4” pots and they have done wonderfully. After a couple of transplants to larger pots, they are about four feet high and blooming profusely. There are lots of pods but I had no idea how to harvest the seeds until now. Thank you so much!
I live in Maryland and always admired my neighbors yard with cleome. This spring/summer we were surprised to see this beauty by our mailbox - came up all by itself. It must have been inside a bird dropping. It is November and the plant is still putting out flowers while everything else went dormant. Now we have plenty of seeds and I watched your video on how to harvest them. Thanks for the video.
Yeah that spread quite a lot. It may have even been through the wind. Just check for more that pop up next year. If you pull what you don't want quickly, it won't become an issue. I have another video on my channel "when things go wrong in the garden" where my cleome kind of took over my walkway and how I fixed it 😂
Thank you so much! One of my friends collected a few Cleome pods from Truro Vineyard of Cape Cod while we were there for their ‘’Annual Grape Stomp Event” in 2018. I finally planted the seeds this year (2022) in May and was so surprised to see them grow into beautiful plants. I didn’t know how to harvest the seeds though but your video explained it perfectly. P.S. I have two purple (sonic plum) doors😊
Hello 😀 I just have now my first house and garden, and try to learn by your videos. The best info on RUclips! Thank you!!! 😍😍😍 I have one stupid beginner thing to ask... Do every seed get one stem or how many shell I put so I can be sure I get one stem?
I planted this from a seed mix that I got from the Botanic Gardens here in Denver, CO and love it. Since it was a mix, I have many other plants in the area where I planted it. This year it is only growing on the outer edges and not where the rest of the plants are even though I consistently threw seeds to the middle of the area. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I don't want these to spread out too far. I love them but would like them to stay in the area that I originally planted them.
Thanks so much; my neighbour gave me one of these and it's the first time I've ever planted one! It is so beautiful but like you, it took me a long time to find out anything, any where on how to collect the seeds! This video is sooooooo helpful. Question: when you transfer the seeds to a paper envelope, how do you keep them over in the winter? Just in a pantry in the basement for example? Any special storage needed?

Thanks so much for this.
Arugula seed pods are very similar to cleome as well.
Thanks for the information. How many of the little seeds do you need to sow in order to get a plant?
Awesome information 👏

I keep them in a little paper envelope away from any light. So just store them in a box or something and they'll be fine
Do you have to redseed or will they come back?
My pods turned dark black. Are the still good?
Thanks
I was taking them when they pop open but was also wondering if you could take them when they don't pop open easily.
Yes but they should be dried out already!
Can I smoke the plant?
LOL they do look pretty similar to an MJ plant!
I also want to khow can I smoke this planet??
