    For decades I wanted the Fat Boy, but as I got older (60’ish) I really started gravitating towards the old school looking bikes and there was nothing else out there that had the appearance of the Soft Slim. I bought a brand new 2019 Slim in that denim red color and I have absolutely loved this bike.
    I live in an area where there are a lot of “Lamborarri’s” running around. I can be on my Slim and a Lamborghini or Ferrari pulls up at a red light next to me, and everyone around us is looking at my Harley Davidson! They just have a certain “mystique” about them, even though everyone knocks them.
    I love my Slim. In addition, I have not had one single problem with it.
    If you like the bike that you are on and riding, it doesn’t matter what brand it is.
    Cheers

      Very good videos by the way too. Apologies for not mentioning that to begin with. Excellent breakdown about why you traded in your Standard for the Slim. This video will help a lot of people in making decisions.

    This was one of the best Motovlogs I’ve had the pleasure of viewing in quite some time, your demeanor was genuine, interesting and the main point very cleanly presented.

    You nailed it with the riding enjoyment. I own a Ducati Multistrada and a Ducati Monster and both bikes are great to ride quickly on a twisty road. But when I want to relax a little and go for a putt on a warm evening I always grab the keys to my old Heritage Classic. I still have, and prefer, the stock exhaust. It is quiet and helps me get to my happy spot somewhere around 55 mph with the river on my left and the moon over my right shoulder.

    I was a Hayabusa rider, mt 10 and also r1 from 2007 and you have to cross all this to realize how amazing Harley bikens are. Is a full environment of peace knowing you will be back home always where full gas is not the important thing anymore. Bikes are pretty and full of customize options... A bit expensive but is worth it. I've tried Softail standard, sport glide, and Fatboy... Abandoning sport bikes to go buy Softail standard or Fatboy if I can afford it. Regards from Barcelona.

    Great review. You did confirm something starting at the 9:45 mark I was wondering about when you spoke of the wider rear tire Fat Boy, or any other cruiser bike for that matter, and how they wanted to stand back up in a curve, while the smaller rear tired Slim did not. I have heard how the slim handles so well.

    Good video. I'm starting to dip my toe into the H-D waters after a life time riding "standard" bikes. There was not one bike I haven't modified and I expect the same with a H-D. I'm thinking Softail Standard(mid controls) with new wheels laced up to wear radials in 130/70-18 fr. and 160/70-17 rear. The seat will need some raising and a smidge forward, possibly a modified Crossbones spring saddle. The mini apes will need ditching for something more practical. All my bikes use tank bags, this will be no exception. Thanks for reading.

    Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the scenery and the commentary. I agree that the new Softail platform is pretty much the same throughout the lineup, there are practical differences to be sure. For example the Softail Slim has a larger fuel capacity than the Softail Standard. I imagine you must have liked the increase in range from the Standard to the Slim. It's one of my biggest gripes about the Standard: The ridiculously small 3.5 gallon tank on the Standard!! It makes what would otherwise be an excellent all-around bike very limited in it's capacity.

    My favourite Softail but the Slim was a fair bit more than the Low Rider that I went for in the end. Was never quite so keen on the SB or SBS due to the lcd gauge and wrinkle thing going on with the handlebars. Fat Boy is the best looking bike I think but the price and over sized tires (and weight) ruled that one out for me. Shawn Smoak rides a Slim (and an RK and an Iron), he is great vlogger to watch especially during the riding season which it is not up in the north of your country at the moment. Thanks. I traded my 2006 Fatboy for a 2012 Fatboy. The sixth gear is nice although I get a little more vibration from the 103 versus the 88 cubic inch. The 2006 handled better and was more enjoyable to ride, especially on twisty roads….also a little more forgiving if you went into a turn a little too fast. Your comment in regard to the handling of the Fatboy versus the Slim has me considering the Softtail Slim model… thanks for the review. Do you notice much vibration at cruising speeds with the 107? Is there an electronic tach by any chance?

    • @immortaldusk
      @immortaldusk  3 года назад +1

      I know the 2018+ Fat Boy that I rode handles much different than your 2012 due to the difference in rear tire size, so I'm not sure you'd see much of a difference going from a Fat Boy to Slim in general, however if you go from the previous Softail chassis to the 2018+ Softail chassis, I think you wil notice a huge difference in handling. The new chassis is lighter, stiffer, and has better suspension both front and rear. The Milwaukie 8 is a very smooth engine, and there is little to no vibration at cruising speed.

    Had to go see… She followed me home.
    Lots of bikes have been through my hands and I’ve had thoughts about certain bikes and bike cultures. HD always had my respect due to the history and longevity. Those 1940 bikes thru to the 60’s really were pieces of art. Hell I even like some of the AMC models. But this Slim slammed it home for me. Had it 2 years so far and it shares a stable with 2 other bikes. Fit and finish are second to none. The metal and pain gleam. The sound intoxicates. But that causes a dilemma- I now want a bagger, a chopper and a few others… I’ve arrived at the mother of all MADD (motorcycle attention deficit disorder) brands..

Much prefer the looks of the older Fat Boy, and have heard that it's easier to maneuver with its narrower tires. In the end, what counts is that you enjoy what ever you ride.

      The more I look at the Sport Glide the more I like it. Hard bags, fairing, aluminum wheels, forward controls, big gas tank, and 2-up seat. All great features, and the Slim is very bare bones. I'd go for the Sport Glide if you expect to do some long distance riding, and the Slim if you'll only be riding a couple hours at a time.

    The Softail Slim has a larger tank and thus longer range that the Softail Standard. However the lean angle on the Slim is terrible and it will scrape in the slightest of curves. On the other hand the Standard has good lean angle but terrible range at only about 120 miles per tank. It just seems that HD can never get it just right...there's always some little (or not so little) niggling thing for their Softail lineup that makes them come up short. Both things were deal breakers for me. I went with a Triumph instead and I'm very satisfied with my choice!!

    Great discussion topic. Question, are the fork legs taller on the Slim or the heritage? Anyone know if all models running 49mm forks universally the same length? Are the forks on a stock Road King also the same but with heavier spring suspension setup?
    What’s the cost to add a second brake rotor? Is your Slim equipped w abs?
    From a collective bench mark for handling big vtwins is 130 in the front and 180/200 in the rear. This is likely an LA or SF thing bcuz of grooves cut into the asphalt pavement on the state highways. The groves reduces hydro planing yet will grab your full attention fast when your front or rear tire sets into a groove!
    Will the Slim accept a wheel tire wider then 150?
    Oh, what size gas tank?

    • @immortaldusk
      @immortaldusk  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching.
      I believe all the forks are the same. It would makes sense from a cost-based-perspective. HD doesn't publish their spring rates anywhere that I've found, so I'm not sure if touring and softail are the same.
      I imagine adding a second rotor would be cost prohibitive since it would also require different wheels. My Slim does have ABS.
      I wouldn't recommend a tire over 150 unless you got a wider wheel rim. I've heard the fender can accomodate a 180 from certain brands of tires, but not all, and it wouldn't fit on a 3.5" wide wheel.
      The Slim has a 5 gallon tank.

    Softail standard is awesome. I want to get one to oneday extend the front legs on it as it screams new-day Captain America stance. However, softail slim (specifically 2018+), has everything going for it. Looking similar to the knuckle, both with great motors and looks. The M8 is one of the best looking and performing motors HD has made in a long time. Get the detachable windshield, not stock seat, bags, exhaust- boom touring. Except the softail frame is exceptional and rigidly mounted whereas the roadking is rubber mounted. Lets face the facts, its a sweet package to have both touring capabilities and the option to hot dog it down some turns, without sacrifice.
