Not a sea shanty… But…Reluctant Heroes I’ve been hoping for for years (by the many many comments I’ve left 😅). I mean, the Barbie Song of ALL things got covered before it…and that was just so, so horrifying 🙃
If memory serves, it's a cat o' nines. Which is even worse than a regular whip, if we're talking about the version that was meant for torture and had barbs on the lashes.
There’s several lines that follow on from the captain’s daughter line, from a version by Derina Harvey, “she looks like an orang-utan” and “there she goes swinging through the rigging” hardly the woman I’d want to be waking up to!! I’m thinking the whole song is a make it up as you go with several stock lines.
I scoured her channel, and all I can say is Anna really needs to power sing more. I can't get enough of her voice in this and especially in Randy Dandy O
defintely "bones in the ocean" its a lovely haunting song. would be facinating how you would make a metal spin on it! and whether it would change the song to new meanings!
Ohhhhhhhh this would be so gooooood. I'd love got him to do an extension of his previous "Leave Her, Johnny" cover as well. I'm pretty sure it's a Longest Johns original, but "Hoist Up the Thing" would be amazing as well.
32 SECONDS AGO. I /love/ these Shanty collabs! The raw energy you five bring is addictive, and with the different tones from your vocal ranges, it really sounds like an entire crew singing together.
Good thing you added that disclaimer to the “shave his belly with a rusty razor,” line. I was just about to try that on myself because I am, indeed, a drunken sailor. Also, this cover is fire as always (in case I didn’t make myself clear)🔥🤘
*shakes head * Except you can't get infected if you have your vaccinations in order. XD But it is still a bad thing to try, of course. Furthermore, tetanus is one nasty death. But anyway, I kinda hoped for more of those added lines after the first one. I think I heard somewhere what the point of the longboat was, but I forgot. DX
Love the random tetanus fact. Great sound AND educational! Also, Anna's voice is perfect for songs where you really get to scream out the lyrics. There's such an umph behind it, you know
This group and the whole metal Sea Shanty Metal thing is working so extremely well, it's amazing. I don't know sea shanties well, but please keep them comming!
Absolutely phenomenal. I’ve loved shanties for about a decade and a half now and these metal covers hit the perfect spot between power, camaraderie, and still keep the shanty vibes
OMFG i was hoping for this one in secret so badly but you DIT IT !!! :D Such a banger as usual man, great work, and happy to finally be able to headbang to this song properly ! xD CHEERS !!! And props to COLM, ANNAPANTSU and RICHAADEB as well, fantastic job on transforming this into an epic Tavern Battle Soundtrack ! xD
Being a complete metal head with an intense love for pirates I've fallen in love with this, also people say due to my English accent I sound very close to a pirate rather than a royal navy sailor, guess my love for them has tainted me
I totally wasn’t expecting this to drop! Like a sailor being surprise boarded by pirates this really gutted me ;D nice job Johnathan, Anna,Caleb, Richard, and last but not least Colm!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Also I'm really mad I didn't have my notifications on for this, and Richard's voice makes "the captains daughter" sound even more sinister
God this music goes so hard. I'll never understand how the art makes you all look so goddamn pretty. If you do another sea shanty please please do "Take us Home" by Colm McGuinness! I found his stuff through his appearances on some of your songs and I'd love to hear one of his amazing songs done in your gorgeously metallic style.
My goodness! That energy! Thanks for this version! You just reminded me of my childhood, we used to sing this song on school trips until we were hoarse.
THIS CREW OF MAD MEN (AND LADY)! YOU"VE DONE IT AGAIN. I loved it! Randy Dandy, Man the Cannons, and now THIS?!?! Jonathan, you're spoiling us, and the other 4 are enabling you. THANK YOU
Fun Fact!!! if you listen closely to his music you can hear that he uses this one like "wa-da-dum-dom" bridge from his Wellerman Metal video in like the majority of videos it's become a game for me to try and find the times he uses it in his music now.
I fuckin love this because it's also the lyrics version I'd constantly sing to myself while working stock alone! Used to have it totally memorized, but it's been years. Let me tell you, nothing gets you moving quite like a sea shanty
Honestly this absolutely needed to happen, have always thought this song needed a heavy makeover well done Jonathan this is exactly the power make over this epic sea shanty of old needed 🤘🤘🤘
We got the sweet voice Siren, The bellow Scare the sht out of ye, The cap'n The true rusty pirate and First Mate, I love all of your voices they are amazing I discovered you guys at 2:30am this is better than Sleep!
Heard this song for the first time this morning before going on a hike with some mates. Needless to say this song was echoing through the rainforest all morning...
This has long been one of my favorite sea shanties. My kid and I used to sing it together and event new verses, just trying to make the song as silly as it could be. She's a lot older now but I can't wait to see how she responds when I share this version with her. You guys are awesome! Thanks for making this one!
Before the Wellerman became popular, this was the only one _everybody_ knew. As for how many knew of the hilarious alternate lyrics by British children’s author/poet Allan Ahlberg (What Shall We Do With The Grumpy Teacher), I can’t really say. I, for one, was fortunate enough as a child to know the alternate lyrics _before_ the original ones.
What sea shanty should I sing next? :)
The last shanty. If you haven’t done it yet
Not a sea shanty, but I've been asking for years to hear you cover Tonight We Strike from The Lion Guard.
Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me from Pirates in the Caribbean
Not a sea shanty…
But…Reluctant Heroes I’ve been hoping for for years (by the many many comments I’ve left 😅). I mean, the Barbie Song of ALL things got covered before it…and that was just so, so horrifying 🙃
Fiddler on the deck
Fun fact the captains daughter in this song refers not to an actual person but rather the whip the captain uses on the crew
If memory serves, it's a cat o' nines. Which is even worse than a regular whip, if we're talking about the version that was meant for torture and had barbs on the lashes.
That explains a lot! here I was thinking the poor woman waking up in the morning to find a stranger in her bed and goes like "oh man again!"
For this shanty, probably not, if the captain found them, the whip would be less problematic
@@HalcyonAcorn Also "You ain't seen the captain's daughter"
Never thought I'd hear the words "shave his belly with a rusty razor" go so hard until now
I found u first mr everywhere
I thought it was shave his balls with a rusty razor.
Guess the razor wasn't that rusty after all.
And this is not a comment i expected to agree with so much, yet here we are.
I swear you and Justin Y are both some sort of mythical entity
ah yes, my personal favorite pirate lingo phrase: "LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Dude... I caught it. MORRISON'S JIG!!
Legendary
Still love your pirate singing, so I'm really glad you keep on doing it! :D Gotta love peer pressure, eh?
im gonna shave your belly rich
@@jonathanymusic is the razor rusty?
Someone name our pirate group and/or ship. GO!
Group name idea: The Sea Yard's Bards
Ship name idea: The Barbershop
The Metal Maniacs, sailing aboard the Jolly Rocker.
Group Name: Metal Bards
Ship Name: Sea's Demise
The vocal voyagers
the lead dread
haha, get it? because lead is a heavy metal but is also slang for bullets? 😂 i'll take my leave
Ugh the world needs more sea shanty metal, this is so fricking good
Good sea shanties are great. Metal is great. Put them together and you get something truly special.
Try Alestorm
@@kurtisdeakin I was coming in here to say the same thing! Also The Dread Crew of Oddwood for some really good pirate folk metal.
There's a dark version called "Drunken Whaler" from the game Dishonored
Try alestorm. Nothing beats the upbeat sound mixed with the questionable lyrics of fucked with an anchor
I AM SO GONNA LISTEN TO THIS WHEN I DRINK IN 30 MINUTES
Anna is just so freaking dope. Everyone's parts makes me want to be screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs, while in a sword fight with my crew
I scoured her channel, and all I can say is Anna really needs to power sing more. I can't get enough of her voice in this and especially in Randy Dandy O
100% agreed. Would like to hear her do more powerful songs. This power took me by surprise, couldn't believe it was her
defintely "bones in the ocean"
its a lovely haunting song. would be facinating how you would make a metal spin on it! and whether it would change the song to new meanings!
Ohhhhhhhh this would be so gooooood. I'd love got him to do an extension of his previous "Leave Her, Johnny" cover as well. I'm pretty sure it's a Longest Johns original, but "Hoist Up the Thing" would be amazing as well.
It could be a ballad type thing, something like Converge. Or something totally new we never expected
That song is so sad. I love it!
@@distantsea they could go the route disturbed went with "Sound of Silence" but it would be cool to see if they did their own thing with it
A metal cover of the Longest Johns? I'm absolutely down
Anna singing aggressively is one of those pleasant surprises that life's give you once in a blue moon
I would love to see a Metal Version of Fifteen Men (Bottle Of Rum)/The Derelict
okay but how the hell does AnnaPantsu sound like an epic avenging goddess when she sings these kinds of songs?! the power wtffffffffffff x__x
It's the range. Nothing like making making an Alto belt out D4 - E5 in seconds.
I never realized how good Colm and Anna could sound with in metal, they’re soooo good
Where does Anna not sound incredible?
32 SECONDS AGO. I /love/ these Shanty collabs! The raw energy you five bring is addictive, and with the different tones from your vocal ranges, it really sounds like an entire crew singing together.
Added to my Spotify playlist immediately. Thanks for all the banger music over the years!
except this is a pirate's crew which had a loooooooooooooooooooot of time to invest in singing lessons
Good thing you added that disclaimer to the “shave his belly with a rusty razor,” line. I was just about to try that on myself because I am, indeed, a drunken sailor.

God this group sounds so fantastic together.
Always love a good sea shanty and Jonathan Young never fails to deliver
Okay, now I want a pirate-themed rock opera movie with the most metal crew imaginable!
same
Working on it! Don't know if it'll ever be published, but it'll be fun to write nonetheless.
0:26 I did not expect that💀💀💀💀
Imagine if the gang sang the much darker "Drunken Whaler" as a kind of sister song to this one? Now that would be something to see
Absolutely phenomenal. I’ve loved shanties for about a decade and a half now and these metal covers hit the perfect spot between power, camaraderie, and still keep the shanty vibes
What I would give to be part of this pirate crew sailing the high seas! Can't wait for the album to come!!

Well! This is certainly a way to wake up. Cheers, Jon!
Well, this has just made my night!
What a banger!!
Killer Cover!!!! I love this. (Richaad SINGS!!!)
I KNOW RIGHT! I believe it`s the first time we hear him sing
Pardon me, it`s the second time. The first is randy Dandy Oh
God this is one of my favorite songs that the Irish Rovers did!!! So happy you did this!
Been waiting for this for a while! You all did an amazing job on this metal sea shanty!
“And today class…we find out what to do with a Drunken Sailor.”

Never thought "Drunken Sailor" would ever go this hard and this heavy.
Glad to be wrong!
I love every collaboration between Jonathan, Anna and Caleb. Their voices work so well together. I enjoy it every time.
Everytime RichaadEb starts singing I imagine it's captain Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean singing😂
I totally wasn’t expecting this to drop! Like a sailor being surprise boarded by pirates this really gutted me ;D nice job Johnathan, Anna,Caleb, Richard, and last but not least Colm!

Love how every character has their own unique voice and design.
Also Jon looks fucking BADASS.
Yes! I stayed up 'til 1AM and then this drops! Everyone sounds perfect. What a crossover!
So even pirates pulled pranks on each other that’s good to know
Hell yea. Awesome cover! Amazing job everyone of ya!
God this music goes so hard. I'll never understand how the art makes you all look so goddamn pretty.
If you do another sea shanty please please do "Take us Home" by Colm McGuinness!

Ironically, Colm sang on this cover (the guy next to Anna)
My goodness! That energy! Thanks for this version! You just reminded me of my childhood, we used to sing this song on school trips until we were hoarse.
I would like proof that Jonathan can in fact play the hurdy gurdy that his pirate is holding, please.
He plays it in his Skyrim "The Dragonborn Comes" cover and Wellerman 2021 cover.
Anna's voice in a metal setting sounds absolutely epic!
You go girl!
And epicness to all the dudes as well.
Bones in the Ocean as a Metal Ballad would be jaw dropping
Yes I was waiting for Drunken Sailer!
This song is amazing!!!! I love listening to your songs!!!!
My dad used to sing this song to me when I was little, so this feels super nostalgic. You all nailed it, this cover is incredible!
Richaad really excels in his part in this song. He sounds brash, rough, aggressive. All things that a pirate should have. Amazing job from everyone!
Beautiful
That "Drowsy Maggie" break in the middle was just *mwah* chef's kiss
Let’s gooooo
The scream at the end got me
I used to be obsessed with this song. Your cover did not help. 🙌
Another flawless performance, all of you! 💕
This was the first Sea Shanty Ive heard. Love your (collabed) version Jonathan, please keep up the good work.
Woah you weren't lying when you said you were going to do a sea shanty album! Love it!
The best thing to come out of the quarantine still has to be the complete out of nowhere adoration a lot of people got for shanties
The Jonathan Young Annapantsu collab that I didn't know that I needed.
I am surprised at how much fame this has. I love it. :). Thanks for doing it.
THIS CREW OF MAD MEN (AND LADY)! YOU"VE DONE IT AGAIN. I loved it! Randy Dandy, Man the Cannons, and now THIS?!?! Jonathan, you're spoiling us, and the other 4 are enabling you. THANK YOU
Sick badass
Been waiting for a solid metal cover of the Irish Rovers version.
Quickly falling in love with @annapantsu on these metal covers. Her belting vocals are to die for!
Welp, that's all my favorite shanties done! Absolute banger like the rest!
Actually wait, Barrett's Privateers and Leave Her Johnny, but those are more melancholy
AWESOME
Can't get enough of these sea shanties, excited for the next one!
*Agressive head-banging intensifies*
Okay, this is epic
Man the guy furthest to the right is SHREDDING the guitar like a MASTER
Absolutely beautiful

it's become a game for me to try and find the times he uses it in his music now.
This is a banger holy crap 🔥🔥🔥

This actually slaps really fucking hard
Definitely one of my favorites!! I just simply can’t stop singing to this!! Well done, bro!
This put a much needed smile on my face. Thanks to you all of you.
Ohhhh yes more from this Raucous Crew! If we manage a whole shanty album out of this, the world would benefit greatly.
Amazing work everyone!!
I say this again. There needs to be a shanty album! 😁🏴☠️
