    this was very detailed and helpful, you killed it man! writing the 'p i m a" for the rhythm really helped, but i wish you also put a little thing to indicate which is short and which one is long, i had to watch it like 20 times lol. Great job tho! and thank you now i know mas que nada haha

    Muito obrigado for this fantastic lesson. I have watched many many youtube guitar lessons over the years. Your Mas Que Nada lesson is one of the best I have ever viewed. Your pacing, breaking up the song in three parts, explanations etc are all very well thought out. Your singing and playing is excellent. And by the way your English is very good. I see from some of the comments that you are also to be commended for introducing people to the music of Brazil.
    My wife and I visited Brazil during Carnaval this year and we had the good fortune to stay in a hotel right on Lemme Beach in Rio where we could listen to amazing Brazilian music at two beach bars across the street every night. Right now I am listening to and trying to play along with songs by Seu Jorge and Ana Carolina.
    De novo muito obrigado per sua aula.

    Thank you for this. This song means a lot to me. I started work in 1970 and the work situation was so noisy that I went from Hendrix, Cream and Led Zep to Brazil 66 😂.
    I still think the two girls singing in the band had the most appealing female voices I've ever heard. I'm now trying to learn some jazz guitar and I've always had a soft spot for bossa nova. 👍

    I allways was very into playing Jazz but when I started exploring the world of chick corea samba rhythms became very essential. I love the rhythms because they really get you in a Brazilian Spanish thing mood and it always sound like something is going on. That’s why I got so interested in this beautiful style of music. You helped me very well with this video to get more into samba grooves. Now I’m mixing my spicy jazz chords with these spicy rhythms 🌶 Makes so much funnnnnnn!!! Thanks

      @@RobsongsMusic Robson, I have an impression that if you make a video of slow and detailed explanation of how to switch from chord to chord on which finger strokes (PIMA) of the rhythm it would be most helpful.
      If I was you I would advertise such video here and make it available on patreon platform for patreons only. So you can get some money out of this from beginners like me, which find it difficult to bite it from your original video and are so desperate to learn to play the song that are prepared to pay.

      @@chlebisas Wow! Thanks for you comment again! It's a nice encouragement to me to start my Patreon. It's a nice way to teach more detailed things to people who are interested in learning them.
      Well, about this specific rhythm, there were other people who took private lessons with me, but with Patreon It can be even more helpful, because more people could be included indeed.
      If you want some help with this rhythm, send me a message on Instagram so we can go through more details of it.

    Hi Robson. I've got it sorted now thanks to you. Hopefully my daughter will sing it when I play it ! You asked for a favourite. How about the coffee song? I used to love listening to Edmundo Ross play it and sing it. I still have my Edmundo Ross bongos that I had for my 18th Birthday (1966) 🤐

This song is played in the game. Desafinado is my Brazilian favorite right now, but it changes all the time. Can you teach it? Thank you.

      Yes! Desafinado is a great one! I can teach it, for sure. I already do it with my private students, but I'll think in an enjoyable way to record it for YT too. Thanks for your suggestion. That's really cool to know that you've been practicing Corcovado and Girl from Ipanema too :)

    Hi Rob I liked and enjoyed this lesson, however, i could not match the rythm you explain with chords and beats, meanwhile, going through the song. It would be useful if you could explain strumming with chords of the song. I try to join it, watching the 1st part of this video demonstration, but you are playing fast and it is difficult to get the clear idea of it. Thanks!!!

    Obrigado. To be honest, this is my favorite Brazilian song. (The Sergio Mendes version) I have just one question. As a beginner learning to play Samba/Bossa Nova, etc. is a classical or Flamenco guitar better? Can you recommend any good brands on Amazon under $1,000?

    • @RobsongsMusic
      @RobsongsMusic  2 года назад +2

      De nada! :) This a great song indeed! Well, For people who want to play Samba and Bossa Nova I recommend classical guitar (nylon strings). It's the most common used. For beginners I'd recommend Yamaha C45. It's a very good one! It's quite affordable too!
      Ps. I'm not sure if you can find it on Amazon.
      If you need more information and tips, please DM me on Instagram! :)

    Hey Robson,
    Thanks for your videos on brasilian music.
    I've got a question for you. I'm not able to get to change chord on the right time.... I read the comment section already and read your explainations to improve but their is still something that doesn't sounds right... I tried with partido alto rythm too (video on your Channel) but same problem, the changing of chords IS not fluid....
    Could you help me ?

    Hey Robson, could you tell me when exactly the chords are changing by using your PIMA finger picking?

    • @RobsongsMusic
      @RobsongsMusic  3 года назад +5

      Hey! That’s a very good question. Thank you! Well, many samba songs are written in 2/4 measure and the rhythm takes two measures to be completed. In the most part of Mas que nada, the chords change in each measure. Therefore, the first half part of the rhythm is played over the first chord, the second part is played over the second chord and then start the rhythm again on the third chord, and so on.
      For example: [p i pp i p] first part [p ii p i p] second part (Use the rhythm written at 5:40 on the video to better understanding) .
      There are two parts in this rhythm that you have to play the thumb twice in a row, so, the chords change in the second double thumb (the first one is still over the first chord and the second one is already over another chord).
      It can be a little bit confused explaining like this. Let me know if you still don’t understand by this explanation. If necessary send me a message on Instagram then I can give you some examples.
      Thank you!
