Disney Movie Mistakes In Coco (2017). Throughout the movie we can see The dead are obviously stuck at the age that they died. Imelda and Hector have spent several years in the afterlife at the same time, and Imelda has never realized that Hector is the same age as he was when he left her, clearly indicating the reason he never came back. She still wouldn't have known that he intended to come back and could simply think that he died shortly after deserting his family. Also one more thing, Imelda died in her 70's. Why does she look so young?

My theory is that the age of the dead people can be connected by picture because everyone we saw in the movie had the same face structure as their pictures

I don’t think so. Mama coco has both a recent photo and is in the photo with her parents as a child. This would hypothetically give her a choice. But we see in the Land of the Dead she is an old woman. Since it may be easier to bond with her father in a child form, this suggests it’s their death age. Also, if it was photo based, then how would Hector have a body at all?
@@valenciageode25 i mean coco probably feels far more comfortable as she is now. she has grandkids who probably only seen her as she is when she is alive so likely if it is a choice on which form she'd take it might be based on how she is remembered and a lot of the living relatives remember her as an old woman rather than a child like what her mom and dad would see her as. along with that, since coco was the only living relation to remember hector, hector would likely be remembered to be as young as the day he left coco and her mom so likely the more living relatives you have that remember you as you are vs on the pictures, the more likely that will be the form you take in the movie's afterlife.

And speaking of Mama Coco she was more than 100 years old (I know this as the real person who inspired Mama Coco was 105 at the time). There's a HUGE difference between 70 and 100.
My grandma died in October last year, she died at 75 but looked like she was in her early 60s, and my maternal grandmother is 80 but looks over a hundred. It really depends on genetics and lifestyle at the end. This reply was too long lol
Also, mama Imelda was angry that he abandoned them. Even if she thought he died shortly after, she still thought he walked out of their life

They are young in the after life because of the pictures their family had framed. If you look well, Coco, the grandmother is old in the afterlife because she's old in her picture. I guess their age reflects how their family viewed them in their memories. For instance, Coco remembers her father as young. The whole family remembers Emelda as young too.
That's the point of the film right, to keep one person alive in one's memories, no matter how they look like, whether young or old.

I think the people in the afterlife will look what they look like when they passed, that’s why Mama Coco look really old, because she passed in the old age, similar like Mama Imelda, and Hector passed when he was much younger then his wife and daughter.
In the opening of Coco, it was said that Imelda taught her daughter, and their grandkids as well, even if she did know after she died it wouldn't mean she could say it to the rest of the family members that were already told that he abandoned his family
My grandmother died at 76 and had black hair and almost no white hair. Her older sister died at almost 82, the same thing. It’s genetics from their father.
I think it’s because they’re the age that people remember them. So whatever picture is on the ofrenda , that’s the age they are in the afterlife

No, I don’t think so. Imelda’s photo with hector doesn’t match the age she is in the afterlife. She didn’t have the gray streak in her hair in the photo like she does there. It’s more likely that they’re the age they died. For example, we see a child in the afterlife. Why would someone put up a photo of a child if they’re all grown up and not of them when they’re an adult?

Imelda was born in 1899, she gave birth to coco in 1918 when she was 19(being older than hector by a year) she died around 1969(70 years old), through a common heart disease or injury, and around the timeline, it being 2017, exactly when the movie was release(movies tend to have timeline on the date it was release but since it was release 20 days after Dia de los muertos, it would be just the year than day)Edit: I like to go into lore and what the timeline is for all this, and I like it, I get to know more of what I'm researching on.

I saw a headcanon on Tumblr presenting a solution to this: Their age in the afterlife is _not_ necessarily their age at death, but rather, the age at which they are most remembered. Imelda may have been remembered most when she was middle-aged rather than old. That would also explain other family members, such as Victoria, Rosita, and the twins, looking so young. And child skeletons didn’t necessarily die as kids; they may have just been child celebrities.
That brings us back to Héctor: Imelda likely assumed that he was most remembered as a young star, but, in reality, the one person left who remembered him remembered a relatively-short period of time leading up to him leaving, and, presumably, he died just a few months later.
And, although this is just a headcanon, it’s still a plausible explanation. After all, in the Coco novel adaptation, it is specified that, once Héctor is remembered by the rest of his family, as well as many other people, his bones go from yellow and worn to a “gleaming white”.
This would makes sense also considering if you are forgotten, you fade away, what they call "second death"

No one talks about the mom and the young girl at the beginning of the movie, then they see Miguel in human form when Miguel crosses the bridge to go to 5e land of the dead, and how the child died young 😢

Hector is a different story since his picture wasn't displayed for years. His outfit is probably based off what he was wearing in the picture he had on him. Since the picture that is displayed at the end of the film has Hector in a suit but Hector never changes his outfit.
No, cuz Imelda has a gray streak in her hair and in her pic she doesn’t have that. And Hector wasn’t even on the ofrenda. And Ernesto prob changed his clothes after murdering him so no one would know who he was. Either that or he went shopping in the LOTD. Or maybe if ur being forgotten that affects ur clothes to. My theory is that they look like how they are remembered. Since the pictures used to remember them by are usually of them younger. So the new generation that has never meet them remembered them as the picture.
They don’t remain the same age as when they died. They exist as those living remember them. Everyone who remembers Hector remembers him when he was relatively young. That’s why Mama Coco wound up so old, even in the afterlife. Those still living all remember her that way. I theorize that in universe, if someone were to be 15 years old, abandon society but still live to be 45 with no contact with the outside world before dying (assuming people still remember them and put up their photo), they would exist in the afterlife as a 15 year old because that is the only way people ever knew them.
