I'm Catholic and although I've kneeled down to statues of the Saints, however I don't wait for it to move like I used too or have the need to pray near a statue in order to be heard, therefore one have to be careful how to approach the statue otherwise it can lead to worship. Now I've learned that God is everywhere and don't need to come to a statue to believe God exist only in statue, His presence is everywhere and especially in my heart. I would honestly pray to God simply by closing my eyes and can see Him in my mind and feel Him from the midst of my heart, His love is divine. I pray the Rosary by contemplating the mysteries in my mind and can feel Christ suffering and know what He went through for our salvation. Now when we are looking at a statue of Christ passion we are also being reminded of the mysteries. I think when we are in front of a statue of the saints we should focus on their love for God and know that God is everywhere.

It’s funny because many Protestants will put up nativity scene statues during Christmas time as a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas, celebrating Jesus’ birth but those aren’t idols? That’s all statues are, reminders. We obviously know they aren’t deities to be worshipped. Just like Presidents and historical figures get statues to teach us the history of these people and a country, saints do the same but for the church.

This should other Christians should take time to think. I am Catholic and I'm proud that I belong to the Universal church . We gave honor to them as saints but we don't worship them. To their great works, their legacy and life. It is a nature of human mind to get lost and forget. So statues are records of history that they really existed and followed the life of our Lord Jesus.

It's not idol worship. What part of it is worship? If every time you honored someone it was sin then you could even honor your parents. If owning or having a picture or statue was intrinsically wrong then God would have told *His people* to make them.

I believe that bowing is a sign of honor and respect. Why shouldn't you show respect to someone who is really holy? As long as you don't do it out of worship I think it is fine. We cannot say the same case with GOD, He is Holy. If we wanna Know Him or close to HIM. Just read the Bible, have a good relationship with Him without any statues. We save people's photos or pictures/images to remember them, but God, we need them not (any images and statues) to remember HIM... We just need a pure heart and seek HIM by knowing HIM well...

A statue of other Gods are sinful because they do not whatsoever represent God at all but with Saints and Jesus, they represent God and his forgiving love. Holy statues are different and that’s a thing.😊 ...think about that

It's not Biblical because the Rosary prayer didn't even exist when the Bible was written. There is no church rule today which says a Catholic must pray the Rosary, it is encouraged by the Church, but it is your choice whether to pray it or not.

Those believers on earth still alive, and those believers who have died, yet whose spirits are in Heaven, are ALL part of the Body of Christ. So just as the Bible says we should pray to God for others on earth, we also believe that those in Heaven can still pray for us who are still on earth, but we must pray/ask them for their prayers, just as we would ask those on earth to pray for us. Do you believe that the spirits of the believing dead are in Heaven right now?

I am very impressed by many of the teachings of the Catholic Church. But I think he failed here in making the connection between a two-dimensional photograph and an actual statue. It is a rather poor comparison. I don't have a problem with statues at all in the church I do have a problem when they are taken out in feasts and celebrations where people venerate them as they pass by. This looks too much like idle worship even if the intent is not there. Another problem is that all the saints for the most part are represented as Europeans when this is absolutely false especially when it comes to the early Saints who were middle-easterners. I totally understand their function as a teaching tool especially when we consider that for most of human existence the vast majority of human beings could not read or write and so the stories were told through icons and statues.

Especially your last sentence in regards to the Early centuries where painted icons and images spoke louder than any of the written words that most couldn't read at the time, unfortunately. Former protestant right here, and it's true that a statue being venerated in public may or may not give off the wrong idea. But it's just that -- a wrong idea. For some, it may just be a misconception just like many well meaning protestants have towards the Church Christ established. And in regards to the depiction of Saints in Icons and artwork as being from a particular race: in my humble opinion, that's perfectly fine. They were not always intended to be a text book historical illustration of the event or person. Icons of Our Lord, Our Lady and the various Saints are like a window to heaven capturing that sense of transcendence when depicting a holy person. With that in mind, we can imagine various cultures throughout times in history where it would be fitting to adopt a certain holy figure as one of their own to give that certain people a sense of identification with the Saint depicted. For example there are icons in China and Japan where they depict Our Lord and Lady with east asian physical features whilst wearing rich garments closely associated with their heritage. There are also ancient icons found in africa where Christ is portrayed with dark skin and African features with dread lock type hair. I see nothing wrong with the people of a set place identifying God's holy people as one of their own.

It's little steps like this that has allowed me along with many others to count down the days 'til Next Easter Vigil when we can be confirmed and receive Christ in the Eucharist for the very the very first time. The scriptures show that when people bowed down to Jesus it was out of respect and giving honor to the Son of God ... it does not mean the people worshiped Jesus. But Catholicism says when people bowed down to Jesus that it means they worshipped him. But then Catholicism bows down to all sorts of images to human remains praying to and kissing and don't call it image worship. Do you see the irony?

We basically belive the same... It is just a different cultural prospective. Consider also, that catholicism is very old and it is rooted in a time where people generally could not read, and pictures where very helpful in teaching Bible and traditions.

I'm a Catholic and I sure as hell don't do that.... My eyes are mostly closed when I pray. I let my senses guide me. Lol. The pews are positioned directly to the cross on the altar in front of the priest.

I'm Catholic and although I've kneeled down to statues of the Saints, however I don't wait for it to move like I used too or have the need to pray near a statue in order to be heard, therefore one have to be careful how to approach the statue otherwise it can lead to worship. Now I've learned that God is everywhere and don't need to come to a statue to believe God exist only in statue, His presence is everywhere and especially in my heart. I would honestly pray to God simply by closing my eyes and can see Him in my mind and feel Him from the midst of my heart, His love is divine. I pray the Rosary by contemplating the mysteries in my mind and can feel Christ suffering and know what He went through for our salvation. Now when we are looking at a statue of Christ passion we are also being reminded of the mysteries. I think when we are in front of a statue of the saints we should focus on their love for God and know that God is everywhere.

It’s funny because many Protestants will put up nativity scene statues during Christmas time as a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas, celebrating Jesus’ birth but those aren’t idols? That’s all statues are, reminders. We obviously know they aren’t deities to be worshipped. Just like Presidents and historical figures get statues to teach us the history of these people and a country, saints do the same but for the church.

To their great works, their legacy and life. It is a nature of human mind to get lost and forget. So statues are records of history that they really existed and followed the life of our Lord Jesus.

Sir, the statues or images from the bible you mentioned are commanded by God. But who commanded for these statues to be created? "You shall not make for YOURSELF an image.. It's not idol worship. What part of it is worship? If every time you honored someone it was sin then you could even honor your parents. If owning or having a picture or statue was intrinsically wrong then God would have told *His people* to make them.

I believe that bowing is a sign of honor and respect. Why shouldn't you show respect to someone who is really holy? As long as you don't do it out of worship I think it is fine. But now, i find it offending my Lord God.. with this reason, they made me touch and pray near to them as if my God lives to them.. some even raise them and kiss them..... From a Catholic perspective, we believe that the Saints including Mary are not dead in the grave, (their body is of course), but not their spirit which is with God in Heaven. Those believers on earth still alive, and those believers who have died, yet whose spirits are in Heaven, are ALL part of the Body of Christ. So just as the Bible says we should pray to God for others on earth, we also believe that those in Heaven can still pray for us who are still on earth, but we must pray/ask them for their prayers, just as we would ask those on earth to pray for us. Do you believe that the spirits of the believing dead are in Heaven right now?

I am Catholic and if they decided to remove all the statues, pictures, and stained glass windows in all the churches it wouldn't affect my belief in God in the least, and I'm quite sure all Catholics would say the same thing. I am very impressed by many of the teachings of the Catholic Church. But I think he failed here in making the connection between a two-dimensional photograph and an actual statue. It is a rather poor comparison. I don't have a problem with statues at all in the church I do have a problem when they are taken out in feasts and celebrations where people venerate them as they pass by. This looks too much like idle worship even if the intent is not there. Another problem is that all the saints for the most part are represented as Europeans when this is absolutely false especially when it comes to the early Saints who were middle-easterners. I totally understand their function as a teaching tool especially when we consider that for most of human existence the vast majority of human beings could not read or write and so the stories were told through icons and statues.
Great point, Al. Especially your last sentence in regards to the Early centuries where painted icons and images spoke louder than any of the written words that most couldn't read at the time, unfortunately. Former protestant right here, and it's true that a statue being venerated in public may or may not give off the wrong idea. But it's just that -- a wrong idea. For some, it may just be a misconception just like many well meaning protestants have towards the Church Christ established.
And in regards to the depiction of Saints in Icons and artwork as being from a particular race: in my humble opinion, that's perfectly fine. They were not always intended to be a text book historical illustration of the event or person. Icons of Our Lord, Our Lady and the various Saints are like a window to heaven capturing that sense of transcendence when depicting a holy person. With that in mind, we can imagine various cultures throughout times in history where it would be fitting to adopt a certain holy figure as one of their own to give that certain people a sense of identification with the Saint depicted. For example there are icons in China and Japan where they depict Our Lord and Lady with east asian physical features whilst wearing rich garments closely associated with their heritage. There are also ancient icons found in africa where Christ is portrayed with dark skin and African features with dread lock type hair. I see nothing wrong with the people of a set place identifying God's holy people as one of their own.

In fact one of his videos about the primacy of Peter is what really hit the nail on the head for me and caused me to start looking further in to the writings of the Early Church Fathers and to then discover that the Early Church of Christ and the Apostles truly was and is the Catholic Church. It's little steps like this that has allowed me along with many others to count down the days 'til Next Easter Vigil when we can be confirmed and receive Christ in the Eucharist for the very the very first time.

Sorry, but the commandment says not to make a graven image and worship it. Making artwork is not prohibited in the commandment. The purpose of the commandment was not to prevent man from making art, but to keep man from worshiping his creation of art.

The scriptures show that when people bowed down to Jesus it was out of respect and giving honor to the Son of God ... it does not mean the people worshiped Jesus. But Catholicism says when people bowed down to Jesus that it means they worshipped him. But then Catholicism bows down to all sorts of images to human remains praying to and kissing and don't call it image worship. Do you see the irony?

None of the images used in sacrifice were used in the way that Christendom use of image worship as claimed particular by the Catholicism. Catholicism tries to link them as the same. But they far from being the same, as the scriptures' show. Only the high priest enter the holy place and only he saw and used the items accordingly for sin and burnt offering, to make atonement for the Israelites … etc. Which are no longer needed due to Jesus Christ ransom sacrificed.

And as I already stated those images were used for sin offerings not used for worship Jehovah God. They were linked to the coming messiah Jesus Christ according to the Law of Moses … etc. The Law of Moses was to Israel (not to the nations) and it is no longer in effect and not needed due to Jesus ransom sacrifice. Col 2:16; Romans 7:6; 8: 2; *10:4.* (see also Gal 3: 24; 5:3,18). Images of any kind is idolatry.
Concerning the so-called church it was prophesied that the man of sin or man of lawlessness would come after the Apostle died for they acted as a restraint. After their death that man of sin would bring in false doctrine, teachings such the Trinity, Hellfire, Immortal Soul, and false traditions such Christmas, Easter, Halloween … etc. But in the last days the man of sin would be reveled ( 2Th 2:6-9).

We basically belive the same... It is just a different cultural prospective. Consider also, that catholicism is very old and it is rooted in a time where people generally could not read, and pictures where very helpful in teaching Bible and traditions.

Get rid of the statues and focus on Jesus. Don't be inspired by statues, no-one needs them. they are completely useless and blasphemous
I hope you dont stand in front of your grandfather's painting and ask for forgiveness of God or any other demands , or think that since he is in heaven then he will be closer to God because offcourse for some reason The Creator has a hearing problem and can hear only the close people to him , because that what catholic think about those people and that is diminishing God for the the sake of his creation and not glorifying him.
I'm a Catholic and I sure as hell don't do that.... My eyes are mostly closed when I pray. I let my senses guide me. Lol. The pews are positioned directly to the cross on the altar in front of the priest.

I don't know if you know the story of the golden calf when Moses was called to Sinaii mount the Jews made it and when he got back , he asked them , why did you reverte to your old religion of worshipping statues , they said every one else had one , and we wanted a God that we can grasp how he looks and present to him our respect and sacrifices, doesn't this ring a bell...
God is Alone, without another, indivisible , with absolute and permanent unity and distinct from all else. The one and only true deity, unique in His essence, attributes and deeds.
Nobody can conceive his shape , he can see us and we cannot see him and off course He neither begets nor is born .
It is strange that you in the twenty one century having a belief in the existence of a Creator and at the same time pray and kneel in front of a statue that you think is the son or an image of that Creator , What arrogance to think that the creator of that universe had a human son or that we his subjects are created on his image !!!!!
And why the church a place if worship of GOD should contain the statues of mortals alongside??
