i think the actors set them high with their fixed recorded songs, they impressed us in that voice, we also expect to hear that voice live.. they were recognized in that voice anywaysssss
This, I really hates fans shouting idols and their companies to respect idols own choices and private lives (dating, mistakes, etc), yet all these complicated things surrounding idols appear due to fans demands.
In produce48 a mentor pointed out that during the foreign language performance recording task many Korean trainees simply gave up singing in order to focus on dancing, whilst the Japanese trainees from AKB48 insisted to sing while dancing even if they're making mistakes and the performance isn't gonna be perfect. I remember haters and some extreme kpop fans criticizing Japanese idols and trainees for imperfect performances, but the truth is that in the jpop industry, almost every performer were required to sing lives even when they're dancing with little to no autotunes, even if it means there's gonna be flaws and imperfections, they still embrace it; whilst in the kpop industry, the pursue of perfection has now gone wayyyyy too extreme, many shows and programs prefer pre recordings and autotunes to make the performance look perfect.

@@mnvh888 well it's actually because Kpop songs have dance choreo which makes idols harder to sings live, while infact they can sing live really good , even for Twice. They got so much hate just because JYP totally overlook their range and potential, they can't even sing most their songs live and i hate it
It’s different. While doing performance it’s well known that they’re not really doing live performance but either doubling/pre-recording so I guess it doesn’t count (especially because KPop dances nowadays are more energetic compared to a decade ago). But I’m utterly annoyed at how they still try to smooth out “real” live singing where it’s supposed to show raw talent like what’s there to hide?
you mean normalize it again, cause when the 2nd gen was active there was no backup vocals.... at least that was the case of SNSD and 2NE1 idk about other groups
That, or more people should know and be aware of the use of live correction and backtracks. With some dances it is literally impossible to sing certain passages- I think it should be fine to use backtracks. The problem is music shows pretending that it is live.
i was there at kcon la back in 2019 and she was really good when she sang speechless. we were literally speechless after her performance. seriously, were all shouting because she really did an amazing job. was one of the highlights of that night.
Remember that just because a group has prerecorded performances doesn't mean they are worse singers. The industry is obsessed with perfection over authenticity
Exactly, so many people in the comments are dismissing their talent just bc their company wants them to sound “perfect” it’s something they can’t control.
Fans prefer authenticity more, right. That's why people feel a sense of betrayal. It's not fair for the fans when autotune is used when they themselves say it's 'live'. Personally I don't really bother about autotune. But trying to fool is also not right on their part. But are these incidents shown in this video true? Or assumptions?
@@mayankbodepudi5524 Would you rather blame the industry for being obsessed with perfection, or blame the artists who have absolutely no say in how their video is taken and manipulated for "fooling" the fans?
I’ve noticed kpop companies are training idols a lot less vocally in recent years. And training periods in general have gotten shorter meaning less time for trainees to work on singing while dancing. So to combat this, companies take shortcuts through autotuning and lip syncing.
I feel the reasoning should be the other way arround. As Autotuning and lip syncing are available at their disposal, companies are decreasing the emphasis on vocals of their trainies.
Yes and this leaves us with idols who get bashed by ppl bc they can’t sing live or bc they’re scared to bc they weren’t trained either properly or enough bc one thing I see these days is companies and even on those survival shows they only care about the visuals and dance and the singers tend to be the least popular among both ppl and couches and then we get ofc good idols with talent but the noses that were much more deserving of the spot are left behind bc they’re not popular nor pretty enough…
They realized in the early 2010s that vocal ability and selling music isn't correlated. I'm pretty sure there is little touch up in this video. The weakest singers became the most popular group. ruclips.net/video/WuJa2QCtsVs/видео.html

For a tv show I always know they auto tuned it so I don't really care and have no expectation. But if I go to concert, of course I want a live performance.
that makes understandable why someone wins the battle. But some people like "it's not fair, he was so good". Dude, you didn't hear how he really sung. When audience were there that was more interesting after is not counting cause panelists really overreact and not always do justice.
@@Levi-bn2xp I agree, with tv you just can't have any expectations, but with a concert if it's not live then that's really not worth the money, because you can just listen to the audio on spotify(or through other means).
This is why the "Cater 2 U" cover of SNSD is one of my favorite live. It's one of the rare raw singing. Taeyeon is given. Tiffany excels in her low registers. But Seohyun is a very underrated singer. Stable voice, sharp ears, and harmonization. A good recipe for live performances.
FR, there's always a vibe in it that sounds so natural. I mean I never doubt SNSD singing abilities since I have seen them sang a lot esp during their rookie era.
I remember i looping Taetiseo clip in sketchbook a loooot back in the days. Always a crazy fans of Taeyeon voice but Seohyun and Tiffany voice here are eargasm too.
I don’t mind autotune for prerecorded shows because they have to do several run throughs and it would strain their vocals, but if I pay money to go to a concert or show I’d expect them to sing at least half the show live. It’s just common sense.

Okay but eunji??? Omg are y’all blind? I never see anyone mentioning her, the girl is literally one of the most impeccable singers in kpop industry and she deserves more appreciation
She is actually very known and popular as 2nd gen ended and 3rd gen starting. But, since now kpop idol standard is their face many people forget about her.
@@anshgala4020 And what about it? She's a main dancer, she doesn't need to be a good singer. She's decent if she doesn't sing in a higher pitch. Idols are given positions for a reason. There's nothing wrong with being a bit unstable and not that perfect. This applies for other groups that got bashed for being unstable as well(eg. BP).
Solar, wheein, moonbyul, hwasa have amazing vocal and harmony. Why don't they trust her to sing it raw. And I love the trio of Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, they've and amazing and strong vocal too. No need to use autotune
Yea even the bands hate it themselves, but because so many groups need to use the stage, it would take to long to actually set everything up to play and then take it down
You might want to look into BVNDIT, they push extremely hard to not have their sound edited. It's really easy to find raw vocal videos of them. But as you can expect, they're not really popular, the machine does it's nasty job.

That's not necessarily mean rosé is bad singer or smth lol. Did you even watch the video? It's the tv broadcast who decide to put "fake kpop live autotune" in her performance. We don't know if she's actually sing live or not. It's not her fault
I feel like during old K-pop days these editors weren't this obsessed with pitch fixing or excessive use of auto tune. Yes backing vocals existed in music show performances but you can still hear the idols singing and distinguish their voices from the backing track. These days there's too much obsession for perfection, even fans are guilty of this. Attacking idols for having their voices crack in an encore stage like do you expect the idol to sing professionally when celebrating their win while prolly goofing around? 6:00 About the Japanese market in general: live music and "natural" voices have a much higher value in Japan to this day. They have a huge rock scene that lives and dies with concerts, so it's no surprise, but it carries over into other genres too. When I started listening to KPop I had to learn how to recognize a back-track, lip-syncing and touched-up vocals because I spent years listening almost exclusively to Japanese music (J-Rock and it's sub-genres mostly) and that has never been a prominent issue to me before. Some of most played tracks are live-recordings, and if they were touched-up (which they probably are somewhat, since professional recordings always do some kind of studio magic) I still can't tell.
Well, the 1st time i heard k-pop back in 1999, i still hear them fine and like any other music industry. But oh boy, starting in 2005, they sounds "plastic" as hell! This is why i really have hard time to want to listen to the "2nd" or what next gen korean wave, and prefered k-rock or the non mainstream artist. It just iffy...
In India too... Whenever indian singer have concert they always do live singing with their band member and chores member... I too prefer live singing not auto tune..
That is so true! I listen more to Japanese rock bands and soloists and they do like singing naturally. Kpop used to be better in the 90s and early 2000 and almost everyone sounded real, SES sang without autotune. Today's kpop vocals are saturated with pitch correction and autotune everyone sounds the same even the singing style is the same.
as an old kpop fan it's easy to tell when perfs are pre-recorded because it sounds nothing like when singing live was the norm in kpop 10+ years ago. but trying to explain this to new fans who insist their favs are always singing live is near impossible but this vid showed/reminded me that there's plenty of tricks tv shows can use even if the mics are on during the performance. there's a big middle ground between "fully lipsynced" and "full raw live" and you can never really trust what you hear lol even "live" performances in kpop these days are usually sung over a loud backtrack and they clearly fade in and out, letting the backtrack handle any difficult note. for the record i dont think there's anything wrong with this, kpop is way more dance and performance focused than it used to be. I'd rather they leave singing live to ballads and chill songs where they can sit or stand still
Same, as a 2nd gen kpop fan, its easy to tell which perfs are pre-recorded. Back then, many idols still do their best to sing live, and most CAN and DO sing live with those hardcore dances (e.g. Infinite, TVXQ), now it really feels like no effort is put into doing that save for a few groups.
@@nurulshuhaida9597 Same, it is also the reason why i quit kpop after the 3rd gen... visuals can only get you so far, and after seeing so many good visuals over the years, i got numb to it so visuals alone don't attract me. And once i noticed how many new releases sound more and more alike each other due to autotune, there's really nothing new to keep me in anymore. You know how people joke that kpop idols look similar to one another, well for me, it's more of how kpop idols sound like one another lol. At least in 2nd gen, each group had a special sonic identity because their vocals were more unique , no matter good or bad vocals. Now, it's mainly bad vocals autotuned to the same sound :/ These days, the only kpop artiste whom i still follow is IU. She sounds way better live, especially at her concerts, everything is live, be it the band or background vocals. Was a pleasure attending her concert in person back in 2019 :)
Theres a reason Taeyeon, Tiffany, MAMAMOO and IU have been at the top for so long. Nothing beats the real thing. Natural voices aren't manmade. Autotune makes everything sound the same and boring. So many singers in kpop songs sound identical because recording studios all use the same software. You can make plastic look pretty close to real diamond, but at it's core it's a cheap synthetic material that won't stand time.
idols are extremely talented, but then companies and shows decide that using their breath and natural human reactions should be covered. I think the only thing I'm okay with is making it a bit more clear and making the mic a bit better, but when you change somebody's vocals, it's game over for your company man. we want real vocals and show the idol's true talent, we don't want pre-recorded unless it's quieter than the real vocal. Edit: I forgot to mention, especially with hard choreos, I'd understand, but then what's the point? I get it, it's hard and like it's extremely hard to be stable when doing so many jumps, turns, fast movements and popping, but then maybe cut down when doing extremely hard choreos? Like I'd skip out on a bit of dance for some vocals- And be human, You know? yeah, sorry. I couldn't get every thought down on here, but I don't think every part of backtracks are bad... just.. okay, I'm gonna finish here. It's difficult lol.
The thing is, without backtrack or lipsync I don't think their stamina can catch up. Imagine dancing and singing in 3+ music shows all week during promotion while also attending other activities. I will definitely be dead if I were them 😔.
@@efka4861 I know, that's why I thought it'd be better if there was quiet backtrack. Also, they build up stamina overtime since they do this for a living. You say that, but the fact is that this is done to all idols. Especially now that many do pre recorded apperances the auto tune is slapping you in the face.

Autotune is the reason why there's so many GOOD Artists that are underrated. Shows keeps on editing even it was already good enough. And that's why hearing it personally is much better 😍😍
I guess that's why some differentiate singers from idols .. but again some idols have a good vocals they just need to work on that instead of dancing in my opinion. It really hurts when you see a genuine artist with no recognition compared to them.
Yeah like the gOoD artist aren't using autotune when the video got edited. Even I admit the group I stan used autotune repeatedly even at their concert. But I still love them for making me happy. There's many good artist with good vocal and dance skills but it's not because they're underrated it was simply because they lacked exposure and promotion from the company that's why they only have a small crowd of fans. My point is DON'T blame the autotune for the gOoD aRtiSt being underrated. It's not entirely the company fault as well they lacked money to promote the group it's not anyone fault. Maybe because some people aren't meant to be famous.
I'm already in love with Solar's voice but after hearing the fan cam of speechless it felt so heavenly 🥺❤️ She doesn't need any backtrack or auto tune her voice is already perfect ❤️
This!! It makes me annoyed because now it makes me wonder will we EVER see proper live performances? Just play the cd at this point ya know?

Anyone who's been to musicals and live concerts before should know that no matter how well trained a singer is, moving around while singing will take a toll on anyone's voice stability which is just normal
@prettiest suji beyoncé should not be the standard you should compare everyone to... she has near perfect vocal technique and over two decades of experience. i love her but this comparison is inappropriate.
exactly, which is why as someone who sings, I don't mind autotune/lipsyncing/backing tracks/pre-recorded vocals. people don't realize that these idols are extremely overworked and most of them don't have proper technique to be singing the notes they're hitting live WHILE dancing. i think people don't understand how serious the damage could be on these idols voices if they sang live ALL the time. a healthier voice that lipsyncs to their own pre-recorded vocals should be valued more than a damaged voice that sings live.
This does makes sense as to why whenever idols finish performing they’re hard on themselves because they think they’ve messed up and they probably did but when we see that performance it’s touched up so we don’t know
The point is to present an almost studio like performance, it's for the enjoyment of the viewers. You wouldn't listen to songs with poor intonation at certain parts, would you? It'll drag you out of your immersion.
@@ANDSTONE100 why would you pay to see a singer that is using a track you can find on YT instead of live vocals? It's pretty shitty to have them train for so long then get told they just have to lipsync.

I honestly have no idea how people could think music show performances are mostly live nowadays. It’s so obvious they aren’t singing live. There are no breathing/deep breaths, not even when jumping. [LONG POST WARNING] Fans are biased and blind. Even the best vocalists would have hard time singing while dancing. But fans denying the fact and still defend them as 'perfect'. Even idols are human, and no human is perfect. I used to think idol should be good at everything: dancing, singing, variety, handsome/pretty. But it's not realistic. That's why idol groups have positions. Members good at singing be the main vocalists, members good at dancing be the main dancers, handsome/pretty members be the visuals. Everyone contribute to the group differently. But it does bother me when I listen to heavily 'fixed' or 'edited' performance. Whether 'cuz of the loud backtracks, autotune, smoothing, doubling, etc. It's just so common I became so conditioned to it, and I start to not know how to differentiate real live vs touched up vocal anymore. Anyway I'm so happy there's still someone like you who are a fan, but remains objective. 99% of fans these days are just delusional. And they're ready to come to you anytime if you touch their God/idol. Even when u just telling the truth/fact. For my case because i am in NCT FANDOM. Some nctzen itself are denial if we said taeil and doyoung often lost breath with intense choreography. Those autotunes help them to reach high notes. Everybody know NCT main vocal has amazing voice but it's natural loose your breath during intense dance. If i said chenle , Xiaojun and haechan are the best in singing while dancing in intense choreography. Most nctzen feel offensive. I often come to concert outside kpop, i know which backtracked & autotuned. which sing live. Actually there are barely backtracked performance from singer from my country so i know the differences. People should know a super popular singers who have great vocal techniques ( even someone whith whistling register) always have different performance for same song ( because they sing live). Most Kpop singer use backtracked and autotunes. They have super hectic schedule and i understand.
@@simsgazytech2013 true. Even I am a NCTZENS I still believe that Chenle is the most stable one while sing live not Doyoung or Taeil but nah...¯\_(ツ)_/¯let them think what they want. Chenle has many experiences while sing live from a very young age so STAN TALENT MAN.
some fans love to insist that what they are hearing is raw, live vocals when it was clearly edited/pre recorded. like NO ONE can sing with a stable voice while dancing 3-4mins straight. its not humanly possible, seriously... i dont get whats going on in people's minds. it always annoys me how people think that showing off "live vocals" means they are automatically better than those who lipsync/use auto tune. in the end, the voices in the songs you hear ARE STILL THEIR VOICES, its just heavily edited and will continue to be no matter how good the singer is. to me, theres no need to be able to sing with a stable voice while performing to prove their talent. because its obvious they are talented by the fact that they debuted, out of many other trainees.
Yes Eunji is one of the best female vocalist that South Korea have in this generation. Along with Taeyeon, Solar, Wheein, Wendy, Yuju, Ailee, IU, Su Hyun, Lee Hi. Their voice are amazingly BEAUTIFUL.
TaeTiSeo’s cover performance of “Cater To U” barely touched up, because SNSD have live vocal queens. It’s no surprise “Cater To U” performance was barely touched up.
I was AT Kcon LA 2019 when Solar gave that performance of Speechless. It freaking rocked. The fact that they went back and decided to 'fix' it ... it honestly leaves me... Speechless.

It's kind of disappointing when even a great singer like Solar was auto tuned in post production without her consent, because she killed the song with her amazing vocal skills. Kpop companies should let the idols sing naturally, instead of trying to present a flawless perception of the idols.
The TTS cover of Cater 2 U, Taeyeon's Rain when she was sick but still performed so well and SNSD's Goodbye are performances by SNSD in sketchbook that proved how these girls made it through talent (along with personalities and visuals).. They just dont sing (just to show the point of live singing) but they know how to sing with technique and class. I miss SNSD in sketchbook.
Also let's just not compare the vocalists of 'older gens', but also the choreography... It's getting more and more acrobatic like every year, IDEK anymore. This is because yall audiences gets more excited with special stages of dancers with difficult movement and props compared to a person standing still singing ballad. And for the record, I'm not against auto tune, back track, or splendid choreography. My point was merely do not expect perfect vocals while doing heavy choreo. As much as you train, jumping and shits would still have effects on your breathing, it's only natural.
@@skateboardz3150 that is quite disrespectful towards ballad singers 🤷🏻♀️. I am not saying they all have to just stand still, it's just if you wanna see hard choreo don't expect them to sing properly while dancing to them.
Yeah for straight ballads there is no reason for backing tracks or auto tune. If NCT U or Everglow wants to lip sync so they can dance balls to the wall honestly I'm ok with it. 🤷♀️
i think taesic (taeyeon and jessica) blends more. cause Tiffany and Seohyun has a powerful voice, when when they try to harmonize, they doesn't complement each other, they are like battling because they're voice are powerful. I honestly feel kinda sorry for the singers.. they train for years and years and are super talented and then these companies just step in and are like "nah fam that's not enough" like wth I want to see you jump around on a stage and sound 100% flawless
It's even funnier when the idols are doing hardcore choreo and the audio is so perfect, you don't even hear breathing lol or those pops with P's, S's, B's etc usual mics without a pop filter have

i know it was live but she still sounded nervous. at the beginning her voice cracked but after a while she sang perfectly so i tough that she must have been nervous because it's her first solo debut
The conclusion is, it is impossible to sing really well while dancing a hard choreography, even for the best singer in the industry Edit: bc some people don't get what i mean. It's because the editors would still edit their voice anyway, no matter how perfect the vocal is.
exactly, and it pisses me off that the kpop industry is trying to "trick" us into thinking that it is possible. it's literally not. and when ppl try to back their favs up saying "you can clearly hear their breathe on the mic" like yes!! they pre-edited that too! editors are getting better and better at making it seem like it's real when it really isn't. ugh don't talk to me im sad :'(
It is possible. A lot of 2 generations did it. It was super fun watching them sang and heard their breathing and learnt how hard they worked to sound so similar. It's a shame today they autotune good singers
You can even notice on musical theatre, they train like hell for decades, all of their careers, but you are still able to hear breathing and panting because is totally normal even for the most professionally trained person
@@ignacia3628 oh yeah I really love watching musicals! speaking of it, the thing that makes me love it is how the actors and actresses improve some of their parts to maintain good performance while they need to dance, and i think that's how a performance should be. In this case i hope kpop music show editors could stop editing their beautiful voices. so we can see idols do that kind of stage improvisation cuz that's what makes it called a work of art.
This is why ITZY is at the top of my list when it comes to live performances especially in the 4th gen. Aside from their comeback stages, their recent performances during Gayos and Award Shows prove that you can give them a hard choreo but they will eat it while singing LIVE. I just love watching them because it seems like a lot of 4th gen groups are comfortable with MRs and lipsynching. It’s not about the difficulty of the choreography, but the technique you use and your confidence in delivering your songs. So kudos to them! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I don’t know a better 4th gen girl group than them, truly an ace in this industry. Also, special mention to STAYC! They’re also a league of their own. I can’t help but watch their videos or tune in whenever I see them on music shows and other shows. In a world full of lipsynching, they’re singing live! Can’t wait to see them flourish even more.
@@ashketchum302 fair enough but the complexity of the song means nothing if they can’t perform it live 😬 dancing even with an easy song to sing is hard if you don’t have the proper technique.
@@ashketchum302 Honestly, if other groups' songs are too hard to sing live, they're not the right songs for said groups. Itzy has their own vibe and right sound for them, and they can do it with hard choreo. That just means it's the perfect songs for them.

@@AlpacaPiola on dvds and bluray, it’s forgivable but during live shows, no artist in japan would dare. In japan, it’s either you’re a good singer or a mediocre one. It’s that straightforward.
i can't even distinguish autone to the artists' actual singing voice unless i watch their fancams or where their live voice is noticeably louder and the voice is just consistent w their movement... that's why i just prefer fancams and their concert stages. the artists also feel livelier and more human?? ig it just gives the performance more justice.
exactly, this just shows how brainwashed most of us are that it gets to the point that we think that the auto tune is live vocals, we've heard so many life live performances that are actually auto-tuned it's just so crazy.
you can ‘train’ your ears by listening to a lot of live singing and by comparing fancams and the lip-synced/auto-tuned version. Two things I can say is: 1. If there is a long note and it sounds weirdly stable with no shaking or changes in dynamics it’s mostly auto-tuned and 2. if there are riffs or just a note change which sounds robotic and just TOO on tune, it’s auto-tuned (or the singer is incredibly talented). If you actively try to pinpoint auto-tune you will slowly start to hear the typical auto-tune sound. Hope it helps
Everyone knows that the vocals on "King of Masked Singer" are tweaked a lot. All of these singers suddenly sound amazing on that show when they mostly sound ok everywhere else.
For me it's okay to hear my idols breathing hard on the mic and seeing them panting while performing. I understand and like it if I see them miss notes, have cracked vocals, don't hit the same notes, cause I know that they are doing their best to perform live for their fans, rather than just look good in the camera and look good for their fans.
i really like what you said but sadly there are many haters out there who anticipates even the slightest mistake in a performance just to drag idols down :
Another thing I like about stayc’s live performances is that you can clearly hear when the backtrack kicks in so you really know they’re singing live for most if not all of it
Altho SM is mostly pre-recorded, i feel like they still sing live its just drowned out by the backing music and vocals, idk about NCT U but Baekhyun pretty much danced while singing live for Candy
Yes but that’s the problem u say they sing but the backing track is much louder meaning u cannot hear them sing so how do u know it’s live...I hate to compare but I must with BTS I hear backing tracks but u can clearly hear them singing live the breathing the cracks when they are trying to catch their breaths and they do an amazing job...however I still think that the group that do lips sync are still really good i mean let’s face it it’s freaking hard to sing dance bring ur stage presence and charisma...everyone works hard
@Egg Headass EXO And EXO-L yes but to say I can sing and dance to then go and lip sync because u can sing just not well while ur dancing is kinda idk that just don’t sit well with me but like u said it’s a matter of preference that’s y I Stan BTS when they get on that stage they always leave me like daannnnnggg they did that they just DELIVERED 💜...I still appreciate other artist like I like stray kids and other kpop songs but there is just no other group that captures me like BTS...once again I still believe that all these groups in all the companies have amazing talent 💜 it’s just a matter of preference ...stay blessed and have a good day
Eunji always gets pissed when the bakctrack is louder than her mic, so she sings louder just to let others know they sing live specially at outdoor performances..
Ive noticed this multiple times in live K-pop performances..you know what gave it away? It was TOO perfect to be real. I wonder whether they know that people can tell whether it's live or edited
since autotune has gotten worse and people are like "they eat CD for breakfast" when they hear the autotune version they do believe that people cannot tell that it's autotune so they keep being more aggressive.
That's why I hate AESPA's latest comeback. I love the song, but every live performance is using prerecording. The later ones started letting them sing live more, but still heavily relied on prerecording. Like, those girls are talented and it just feels like a slap in the face at how hard the company is trying to make them seem non human
Even the only stage of them singing live, the Music Core encore, has a very heavy backtrack, I really can't...I know encore stages of this TV station always have it but their raw vocal was even edited into a two-channel earphone track like wtf? Why can't SM just let us hear them sing properly?
Edit: I also hate the latest comeback for the same reason. The dance is good, but even in the encore stage, it sounded very heavily reliant on pre-recording (you can hear an almost doubled on so many parts). Like, come on SM, let them sing live.
This upsets me because I don’t watch an artist to hear them sing “perfectly” because that’s just unrealistic. I want to hear them. I love to sing and setting these expectations for singers is toxic. It scares me how perfect they expect these artists to be
SM main vocals, solar when singing ballad dont really need autotune....and eunji actually wants to be a vocal trainer not an idol so she can hit almost all the notes correctly.
@@-notso-savage675 no she wasn't. Eunji's original dream was to become a vocal trainer but she didn't was one. But Solji fro. EXID was one before becoming a member. When talking about TTS specifically I know that a lot of the attention is catered to Taeyeon and Tiffany, but I think it’s time to start appreciating Seohyun too. Not only is she a superb vocalist, but she acts like the glue in both SNSD and TTS as her harmonies quite literally guide her members, and honestly I think her role is extremely vital to the group. Just wanted to throw out some Seohyun appreciation out there as she’s my bias and she deserves every bit of love for her amazing singing voice :)
Cater 2 U shows their vocals really well. Three of them have really really really nice harmony that actually been showed by not only them, but all 9 of Girls generation members but we tend to miss out.
Thank you for this honestly T_T Some of my friends didn't like Seohyun being in TTS because they think she stole Jessica's place, but they overlook how talented she is and how cohesive she makes their performances
I mean, it's not like Mamamoo don't use backtracks. Did you forget Solar slipping up and gasping in Queendom while she continued to singing in the background lol.
@@luhuttuhul3411 that was one performance because of technical issues. they said it themselves, they prefer singing live over lipsyncing because they know they’re the worst at lipsyncing lol and Hwasa hates when her mic’s low and she can’t hear herself over the backtrack so she tries to sing louder. they’re the best 3rd gen female vocal group and that is a fact that even non-fans acknowledge. so why are you salty? i’d understand if you were offended because they mentioned IU with a group that can’t sing... but that’s not the case isn’t it? 😆
@@luhuttuhul3411 of course they lip sync. They dance too. No one can sing live perfectly with dancing. And their chores have become very complicated over time. But. And a very big but, their live performances are insanely good and refined. These girls can start singing anywhere anytime and it sounds the same as their official releases.
I think no one has realize how important this is especially to aspiring singers. This is not just common to kpop, but in western shows as well (x-factor, got talent etc.). It’s creating a fake sense of reality that they are all perfect, not missing a single note for every performance when they don’t. It’s normal to miss a few notes, to not start on cue. And since even the slightest mistake gets corrected to sound perfectly, it fuels insecurity to aspiring singers that they are lacking, that their skills are lacking
This comment should be pinned! It is not simply about aesthetics and pleasing the audience. There are many people who look up to these "singers", perfect vocals is not always possible, leave while dancing. Perfection is an illusion and chasing it will only damage their confidence.
Yeah sometimes I feel like my vocals aren't good enough bcs I can't sound like idols no matter how hard I practice💔When I watch fan cams it sounds almost identical to how I do it..So they should let real vocals shine..........
Its the exact same with Bts and their fans, Bts use live pitch correction and it makes some of their fans believe its a raw live, with all that dancing and movement and every live sounding the exact same. People are forgetting what true lives sound like these days.
Proud of my 5 girlies whose vocals are constantly attacked by kpoppies but are singing live as much as they can (overpowering the backtrack) wherever and whenever the show is straight from their debut. Watching ITZY perform delights many Midzys.
Finally someone who's talking about this. its rare for idols to actually sing live imo. its easy to mess up no matter how good of a singer u are, and their company wouldnt want that image for their groups
"its rare for idols to actually sing live imo" yes, but not for the reason you said. now they focus more into dancing instead of vocals so they use autotune and lipsync to cover the mehhhhh vocals. watch Wheein - Ohoo special. she sing live without holding a microphone and yet she sounds amazing. do you know who's not afraid to sing live? a singer with talent
I'm not surprised Cater 2 U wasn't touched up much 1) TTS are vocal QUEENS 2) They're sitting down. With no physical exertion, they can really focus on their vocals and there's no dancing or running or jumping to worry about
@@lifetimesone108 I wasn't saying anything about other groups tho, just TTS. It's just a fact that since they're sitting down, they're gonna sound better than if they were doing acrobatics across the stage.
Mamamoo members are trained vocalists that don't need autotune. watch Wheein - Ohoo special where she doesn't even hold a mic and it's just her pure raw voice.
I personally don't mind auto-tune, especially if it's used as an effect like in EXO's lotto or Tiffany's Magnetic Moon because it's an aesthetic not a secret. It also makes sense to have pre-recorded stages because Kpop groups are PERFORMERS, *Idols are not singers, but sometimes singers will become idols* But I think their is a moral dilemma when these shows purposely manipulate live performances for the purpose of tricking the audience into thinking it's untouched and real. It devalues a vocalists worth when their actual live performances are being graded up against a below average singers autotuned performance because no one can hear the difference. At least programs like 'Inkigayo' or 'The Show' don't pretend to be something they're not. Fans (usually) understand it's for the dance, the outfits, the stage and occasionally live vocals drowned out by obnoxious backtrack. But Sketchbook and Masked Singer Pride themselves on finding "Talent" when they're the worst offenders of autotune. They take advantage of the audiences' trust in them like YG lying that their idols don't lip-sing. SM should be ashamed of putting "live" on the cover of videos like Red Velvets "Psycho" or Baekhyuns "Love again" smh
When i first encountered Solar's fancam of speechless i thought k-con's version was clearer(?) and louder because they have the audio without any noises you hear in the stadium and that weird sound from the speakers.
@Micha EL lmao yes they are different. Auto tune distorts and manipulates the voice. A microphone just turns up the volume of what's already there. It doesn't change the pitch.
@Micha EL You are literally doing mental gymnastics to compare apples to oranges. No microphones are not even remotely close to autotune, end of story.
@Micha EL There is a difference from a voice thats is EARNED and a voice that is FAKE. You are an idoit. You're basically saying an athlete that cheats his way with steroids is as good as an athlete that put in the work to get strong as long as the results are the same. The problem isn't the auto tune *it's that they're lying about it*. If I enter an art competition and trace the same art another artist that did it by hand but I win the competition you don't think thats fuked up? Or like Fine if you want to get liposuction and plastic surgery, but don't act like a natural beauty because you're lying to yourself. You're way of thinking has a million holes in it and is flawed at it's core. Auto tune in itself isn't evil, but comparing it to REAL talented singers is not okay.
The only problem is the fans that can’t accept their idols flaws..Its not like they’re not talented. Its just your expectations that are too much

Today's kpop vocals are saturated with pitch correction and autotune everyone sounds the same even the singing style is the same.
as an old kpop fan it's easy to tell when perfs are pre-recorded because it sounds nothing like when singing live was the norm in kpop 10+ years ago. but trying to explain this to new fans who insist their favs are always singing live is near impossible
but this vid showed/reminded me that there's plenty of tricks tv shows can use even if the mics are on during the performance. there's a big middle ground between "fully lipsynced" and "full raw live" and you can never really trust what you hear lol
even "live" performances in kpop these days are usually sung over a loud backtrack and they clearly fade in and out, letting the backtrack handle any difficult note. for the record i dont think there's anything wrong with this, kpop is way more dance and performance focused than it used to be. I'd rather they leave singing live to ballads and chill songs where they can sit or stand still
This!
fact this is why i left kpop industry and too many new faces but only beautiful face and voice i dont think they has good voive.
Now, it's mainly bad vocals autotuned to the same sound :/
These days, the only kpop artiste whom i still follow is IU.
TRUEEEE
Agreed
I can't even identify who's who in some groups

Mmm vocal queens indeed, snsd and iu set the standard
idols are extremely talented, but then companies and shows decide that using their breath and natural human reactions should be covered.

@@kristin123a it's so upsetting and I just really get upset over this lol. Pre-recorded performances is so much worse than autotune considering they aren't even SINGING😔
There are a lot of great solo/ballad artists in Korea that are painfully underrated, same with k-bands
using auto tune doesn’t make you a bad artist lol

Sadly, a lot of kpop fans measure talent from how stable they live singing is. Vocal stability measures more on stamina :(((
Anyone who's been to musicals and live concerts before should know that no matter how well trained a singer is, moving around while singing will take a toll on anyone's voice stability which is just normal
I mean it's logic and nowadays groups have crazy choreography, so it's quite impossible for them to sing live everytime
It can even damage your voice ,so if they sing while dancing a exhausting choreo it can strain their voices
Yes, that's why artists stay still when tgey belt out really high notes
@prettiest suji beyoncé should not be the standard you should compare everyone to... she has near perfect vocal technique and over two decades of experience. i love her but this comparison is inappropriate.
exactly, which is why as someone who sings, I don't mind autotune/lipsyncing/backing tracks/pre-recorded vocals. people don't realize that these idols are extremely overworked and most of them don't have proper technique to be singing the notes they're hitting live WHILE dancing. i think people don't understand how serious the damage could be on these idols voices if they sang live ALL the time. a healthier voice that lipsyncs to their own pre-recorded vocals should be valued more than a damaged voice that sings live.
i'm proud that cater 2 u wasn't autotuned. tts and the whole snsd, (well, including mamamoo) has the best vocals!!!

[LONG POST WARNING]
Fans are biased and blind.
Maybe if you plan to make another video like this, can you also explain the different method to edit/fix/touch up a vocal? Such as auto tune, smoothing, doubling, etc? We heard them but many probably doesn't even understand what they really are and how they work.
THANK YOU!

Exactly! One time and I watched a video of a concert stage that was mr removed, their voices were shaky as hell but that's understandable because of their choreography. So many comments on it were saying "Wow!" ****'s voice is so stable! We stan a queen" like seriously? Y'all deaf or sum?
Even I am a NCTZENS I still believe that Chenle is the most stable one while sing live not Doyoung or Taeil but nah...¯\_(ツ)_/¯let them think what they want.

some fans love to insist that what they are hearing is raw, live vocals when it was clearly edited/pre recorded. like NO ONE can sing with a stable voice while dancing 3-4mins straight. its not humanly possible, seriously... i dont get whats going on in people's minds.
it always annoys me how people think that showing off "live vocals" means they are automatically better than those who lipsync/use auto tune. in the end, the voices in the songs you hear ARE STILL THEIR VOICES, its just heavily edited and will continue to be no matter how good the singer is.
to me, theres no need to be able to sing with a stable voice while performing to prove their talent. because its obvious they are talented by the fact that they debuted, out of many other trainees.

you can ‘train’ your ears by listening to a lot of live singing and by comparing fancams and the lip-synced/auto-tuned version.
Singer: *breaths between notes*

It's not lip singing. It's lip syncing.
@@danichayasminiglea962 ? How does that tie into this comment..?
Everyone knows that the vocals on "King of Masked Singer" are tweaked a lot. All of these singers suddenly sound amazing on that show when they mostly sound ok everywhere else.
That Solar's cover of speechless is true. Thank Gos she posted her raw version in her yt channel.
The thumbnail got me nervous a bit, but good thing TTS' Cater 2 U, that's a gem there.
EDIT: woow so many likes
Same dude I was reluctant at first coz I was thinking "There's no way, SNSD's vocal line are unbeatable.

TTS Cater 2 u is superior
This is for stop few delivery less 😂
Sameeee I was about to throw punches in comment section 😂
For me it's okay to hear my idols breathing hard on the mic and seeing them panting while performing. I understand and like it if I see them miss notes, have cracked vocals, don't hit the same notes, cause I know that they are doing their best to perform live for their fans, rather than just look good in the camera and look good for their fans.
i really like what you said but sadly there are many haters out there who anticipates even the slightest mistake in a performance just to drag idols down :
@@ivson8362 True. They just randomly do that now.
I remember jongdae telling that they had to practice breathing out down rather than straight because the mic will catch it while dancing.
@@horololo4344 where? I wanna see too.
@@eirai1z one of his solo interview/ variety shows I think. Or radio star. 😅😂
and now... there's STAYC who consistently do live singing with minimal to zero backtrack or autotune while dancing around and still stable af. :))
Nct did live too but obviously not the chorus part and with a backtrack too for non-vocalist. Basically its the same for all sm artists.
I was thinking exactly about this live, it looked so real like maaan.
sm reserves all the lives in their concerts that's why it's mostly sold out
Yes but that’s the problem u say they sing but the backing track is much louder meaning u cannot hear them sing so how do u know it’s live...I hate to compare but I must with BTS I hear backing tracks but u can clearly hear them singing live the breathing the cracks when they are trying to catch their breaths and they do an amazing job...however I still think that the group that do lips sync are still really good i mean let’s face it it’s freaking hard to sing dance bring ur stage presence and charisma...everyone works hard
@Egg Headass EXO And EXO-L yes but to say I can sing and dance to then go and lip sync because u can sing just not well while ur dancing is kinda idk that just don’t sit well with me but like u said it’s a matter of preference that’s y I Stan BTS when they get on that stage they always leave me like daannnnnggg they did that they just DELIVERED 💜...I still appreciate other artist like I like stray kids and other kpop songs but there is just no other group that captures me like BTS...once again I still believe that all these groups in all the companies have amazing talent 💜 it’s just a matter of preference ...stay blessed and have a good day
Honestly, the sub group "tts" was such a great release and the best decision. Seohyun, Taeyeon, and Tiffany vocals put together is *chefs kiss*
Eunji always gets pissed when the bakctrack is louder than her mic, so she sings louder just to let others know they sing live specially at outdoor performances..
This is so true
Remember when she sang her part higher in moment? So good
@@princessnicolesangabriel731 yassssss
Ive noticed this multiple times in live K-pop performances..you know what gave it away? It was TOO perfect to be real. I wonder whether they know that people can tell whether it's live or edited
since autotune has gotten worse and people are like "they eat CD for breakfast" when they hear the autotune version they do believe that people cannot tell that it's autotune so they keep being more aggressive.
That's why I hate AESPA's latest comeback. I love the song, but every live performance is using prerecording. The later ones started letting them sing live more, but still heavily relied on prerecording. Like, those girls are talented and it just feels like a slap in the face at how hard the company is trying to make them seem non human
ahh same.. i've been looking to their live performances where they sing live cos their vocals are damn good but i can't find anything.
Finally!! Someone said it! Im so tired seeing people commenting on how "good" they sing on live performances when it's actually pre-recorded : (((
same :(
Even the only stage of them singing live, the Music Core encore, has a very heavy backtrack, I really can't...I know encore stages of this TV station always have it but their raw vocal was even edited into a two-channel earphone track like wtf?
No she was a vocal trainer then become an idol
@@-notso-savage675 no she wasn't. Eunji's original dream was to become a vocal trainer but she didn't was one. But Solji fro. EXID was one before becoming a member. She was their vocal trainer but after two or three members left (I don't remember) they asked her to join. But Eunji's vocals are no joke too. I still hope for a collab between solji and eunji ^^
Seohyun is my Bias.
Thank you for this honestly T_T Some of my friends didn't like Seohyun being in TTS because they think she stole Jessica's place, but they overlook how talented she is and how cohesive she makes their performances
She is also my bias
I love everything about her and her voice...
This is why mamamoo and iu are so respected . They even have casual fans , and amazing brand value
I mean, it's not like Mamamoo don't use backtracks. Did you forget Solar slipping up and gasping in Queendom while she continued to singing in the background lol.
Why including mamamoo,, please they are not on the same level as IU,, IU never lipsync
But mamamoo did lipsync in some live stage
@@luhuttuhul3411 Can you say which one? Entertain us moomoos please < 3
Solar really said she won't be silenced, I'mma sing live even with that loud ass backtrack.
@@dibidibidibi My whole life explained in a youtube comment.
Its the exact same with Bts and their fans, Bts use live pitch correction and it makes some of their fans believe its a raw live, with all that dancing and movement and every live sounding the exact same. People are forgetting what true lives sound like these days.

I'm not surprised Cater 2 U wasn't touched up much
1) TTS are vocal QUEENS
2) They're sitting down. With no physical exertion, they can really focus on their vocals and there's no dancing or running or jumping to worry about

Mamamoo members are trained vocalists that don't need autotune. watch Wheein - Ohoo special where she doesn't even hold a mic and it's just her pure raw voice.
Oh man, a year later, and I stan Mamamoo so much! Thanks for the encouragement and kind words ❤️🥰
Yeah that’s true.. sadly
That’s why I enjoy to watch SNSD’s lives. And “cater 2 u” is truly legendary. The harmony on point
Right. Listen closely and you'll hear the "metallic" spread out (?) vocal, they don't sound full and just too smooth
Jung Eunji is one of the idols that never ceases to amaze me vocally-wise. She is so good...
