Thank you very much Dave. I just opted out. I don't know why they do things like this, it's almost like they don't like the people that sell on the platform. You know guys like us the ones that make them all their money
When I moved into my first house in 2017 I basically bought this woman's entire house of furniture since she was downsizing to a cabin in the woods (as I recall). This included a king sleep number bed and frame, couch, love seat, coffee table, end tables, and some lamps. So far the only thing we've replaced is the couches since the dogs destroyed them (and they were on their way out anyways). I was sure to clean the bed thoroughly and it's served us well for years. Zero shame in used furniture.
Almost all our furniture has been bought used. No way am I paying retail when so many out there practically brand new . Picked up a dishwasher last week after mine had just finally given its last wash, for $10! Still had the new instructions in it. Was a floor model. Found at Habitat for Humanity. Good deal, good organization. Win win!!
Not many people know this but you can negotiate when buying a new bed, much like negotiating when buying a new car. The last bed I purchased had a price tag of $2500, the salesman said how about $1800, I came back with $1200 plus free delivery and he accepted.
Dave, please spend more than $500 on a bed. You’ll get nothing but garbage at that price. People spend $80K on a car they use 30 minutes a day but refuse to pay up for a decent bed or even a pillow for the most important time of the day. Same with people with desk jobs. They would rather sit on concrete than buy a quality chair. It’s worth it! With Sleep Number beds, especially older beds, you have to check under the cover and on the air chambers for black mold. If it has black mold it’s garbage. Personally I would never buy a used bed. Mattresses actually gain weight over the years from dead skin, skin oils, moisture, dust, dust mites. Buy a quality, new mattress and buy a quality comfortable mattress protector.
@@jonnydcash9765 Not a false statement. When is the last time you checked on your air chambers? Unzip the bed and look. Your sweat can get trapped inside the bed under the cover and on top of the air chambers. Anywhere there is moisture retention there is potential for mold and mildew. Take it from a former sleep number employee. You have no idea how many beds I replaced for customers with mold issues. Not saying they are bad beds. I own one and it’s great. But the older beds especially had problem with mold. They used to tell you just to clean it off with bleach and water. Mold is a serious issue. If you experience it you need to get rid of the bed or call customer service for options. My brother also owned an older sleep number bed and it had mold.
Dave, I enjoyed your story how you and Tina started out…buying used furniture and such. I got married in 1972 and we had inflatable living room furniture for quite some time. We managed to save up enough to actually buy used furniture and were thrilled with it. The cost of our tiny house was $11,300, believe it or not we were able to assume the previous owners mortgage. She just wanted out of home ownership. Back then my husband was making $8700.00 a year as a Police Officer…so we managed on very little money, I get it!!
I use flat rate shipping. I set up business policies for shipping - $5.99, $6.99, $9.99, and so on, depending on the weight. Most of the time I make an extra buck or two and that greatly offsets the few times I underestimate the shipping.
Used Furniture ? We bought a new to us House 2 years ago with ALL the contents: furniture, wall decor, antiques, books, papers, dishes etc etc. Lock stock and barrel. Lady we knew passed away and her daughter wanted nothing at all. The majority of the furniture was almost new and better than we already had so we kept most of it and sold our older stuff. As long as it's clean and in good condition... no problem for me :)
@@ADHDaveFlips BTW, the house used to belong to my wife's grandmother and my wife's mother lived there until she left for college. Beautiful house also. 3300 sq ft !

Dave I opt out, I agree should have ask first. I do my own discount I don’t need eBay to do it for me. Really didn’t like this and let them know when I call . It’s bad enough they charge me fees on shipping
I've been giving my buyer's the discount since almost day one. What I did recently to cover any possible underpayments on calculated shipping is I added a $1.00 handling fee to each of my shipping policies and it's saved me several times from having to use my own money for shipping when the package goes a little over in weight or box size. It also helps offset a little bit of my shipping supply costs. If I had more space I would definitely pick up larger items (if they're going to bring in enough to cover the space they'll hog while I have them) 😉
To fix the ebay shipping, just put the dimensions and weight of the box a little bit bigger than it’s so you don’t have to worry that they under charge customer.
I immediately opted out on the shipping change . I usually break even after fees with a bit over for the packaging materials . Regarding being charged fees on shipping , Ebay knows exactly what the shipping cost they should forbid people from charging way more than it cost to ship and then not charging fees on shipping because we have to charge more because we’re losing what 12 to 13% on our shipping ? So customers have to pay at least 12 to 13% maybe 14% more just to cover the fees that Ebay makes on the shipping. It’s because people used to sell a purse for a dollar and then charge $20 shipping I remember those days. It happened to a friend of mine got a great deal of purse but then they charged her 20 bucks for shipping and it only cost like five bucks back then or less. So people wanted to get out of the fees so they started charging higher shipping instead of charging it for the product and now we’re stuck with the results of that. They could fix it if they wanted to because they could make it so you can only charge what it cost plus a little padding for costs like boxes and such but they don’t , they’d rather get the fees . That is an amazing deal on the bed we did pay almost 3000 on the bed after my husband had two spinal surgeries and had to have a certain kind of support for his back. We paid it off in the promotional. So we didn’t pay any interest but if I could’ve gotten a deal like that I probably would’ve taken it too ! Never occurred to me to look for a used high-quality bed.
Thank you for explaining this!! I could never justify why they charge fees on shipping, but that totally makes sense!! What still can’t be justified though, is charging fees on the total cost which includes sales tax…it’s money that sellers never see!
The first step to successful investment is figuring your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a financial professional but it's very advisable you make use of professional
2 things. How do you ensure the authenticity of items such as the Hermes bracelet? And the bed thing I completely understand. Our 1st furniture when we got married was used from an auction house. We still have some of it 26 years later. Our current bed came out of a storage unit auction we bought 12 years ago and it's definately time for a new mattress but I can't justify the cost even though we make triple or more of what we made 12 years ago.
I ship for myself and my son. He nearly always underestimates weight because he isn’t shipping himself. Thank goodness there’s a little wiggle room. He definitely has to opt out on the new change with eBay. Most people wouldn’t have done this. They are pushing a change on everyone making it hard to compete if you don’t go with it. I would need to go back and double check all my weights and make sure none are too close because you’d loose money. Loosing a little is fine until you realize you took a low offer plus loss on shipping
I weigh my items when I'm taking pics for the listing and then take a pic of the scale as my last photo for that item. I usually have a ruler in at least one photo so buyers can see the size but it also helps me know what size box it has to go in and I know how much my boxes weigh. I rarely underestimate using this method. The only time I run into an issue is if I underestimated the size box I'll need.
I didn't receive anything from eBay yet about the shipping change as of 4.22.24. This is upsetting. I've always felt our discount off-sets the commission eBay takes on the shipping & tax and helps with packing materials as well. Thanks for making me aware of this Dave!
@@Mrsdevsgirl thank you, so I don't have to worry about them changing it on me then if I've already selected and saved calculated retail as my shipping method?
@user-gt8ps5dn2h If your shipping method is calculated, they will change it unless you choose to opt out. Even if you don't have calculated shipping and you do Free or flatrate, I say still check because you never know.

Everything I own is used too. It really helps to know how something is going to break in so to speak, clothes, furniture everything. Whoever got that adjustable bed got gold. Friends just bought one of those for over 7k. Crazy.
It's amazing the way you tell a on and on story in a interesting way that I can't stop listening, even though I could care less about your bed. Congratulations job well done.
Dave! We paid $8K for our sleep number bed! I am DYING over your amazing great deal!!! I hope you and Tina love it as much as we love ours. We have had it for 10 years and believe it is the best money we ever spent. (But dang! I can’t imagine finding one for $150!)
I wonder what model Dave got. They vary greatly. Some are as cheap as $1000 new with no pillow top that are as hard as a rock and you need to add a mattress pad. Others are extremely lush with extremely thick memory foam pillow top and $10K.
I left a comment on a different video regarding people using credits to avoid fees, I experienced exactly what you were saying and I get it now. I had 15 bucks from a sale and an additional 5 dollar coupon. Omg at check out I had tons of fees as a shopper the 15 dollar purchase price, plus processing fee, plus buyer fee, plus shipping fee and plus taxes. Even with my 15 dollar funds and 5 off coupon I still had to pay 6.95 cents.. so insane!!
Sorry to hear about your mom. I haven't been watching like normal so I just learned of her accident. I'm glad she's getting better. We will pray for continued recovery. Thanks Dave
Hi David, I didn’t know that about your Aunt, I’m so glad she’s ok now. God Bless her and your entire Family. I love you and your Family, you are such nice people. I always enjoy seeing all of you. Your friend Loretta. Peace n Blessings ❤❤😊😊
I also ship large items as well. I shipped a 5-foot-tall blow mold to North Dakota from Michigan. It was the biggest one I had. I don't sell on Ebay myself but, agree they should allow sellers to opt in then force them to opt out. The immediate changes and minimal control on things is the reason I left to create my own website. Is it easy to create your own website? Absolutely not easy to do. Am I glad I did it absolutely. I personally charge a little over cost for shipping because the company I use to calculate my shipping costs sometimes makes mistakes. I took a $35 loss on shipping a stereo to Southern Indiana. I usually make around a $1 or less on some orders. Once and a while maybe more. I need that extra to cover when I am way off and figure it all works out better that way.
I use flat rate shipping. I keep shipping reasonable so I am competitive. The only time I lose is when I ship to the west coast from Florida. I usually make enough to cover my packaging though. I factor that in to the pricing as well. I just found this to be easier for me than using actual shipping costs. I guess though it makes sense because using actual would make some items cheaper shipping closer to home. I wonder do you add a handling cost to cover the shipping materials or is that built in to your pricing? Great episode. Thanks!
I still haven't received this message. But I went into my shipping settings and made sure it was still set at my original preference. I do not offer the discounted rate. But honestly it is usually only a few cents to a dollar or two more than my price. I count this as a materials fee. It pays for my shipping supplies.
Also, if you like the Sleep Number bed and you need to upgrade in the future, I highly suggest purchasing one brand-new. I bought mine like 15 years ago. It's popped once and Sleep Number was REALLY good about replacing the bed. Not only that, they made a mistake when they shipped me the replacement under warranty and they didn't want me to ship the mistake back and I ended up selling the mistake on FBMP for like $200.
The only new furniture we've ever bought is the kind that come in a box and has to be assembled - mostly shelves. No shame in used furniture - new stuff is expensive and most is built cheaply. My theory on the forced discounted shipping - eventually it will not be an option to opt out and the end result is that sellers will need to pay for higher promotion fees to be competitive. I have passed on my shipping discount for 2 years to have a more competitive price.
Hey Dave since you do what not my printer tooka crap my new one won't be in tell tomorrow do u know where I can find a QR code for a order on whatnot. So I can get this order out
My throat is sore too & Its the effects of the Pink Moon tomorrow night. You'll feel like crap 2 days before and 2 days after 😞 as the day & progressed my throat has gotten more sore. Yesterday my neuropathy was so out of wack I looked like a drunk witch trying to just walk to the mailbox 😑
Hey dave could you do a special video on how to do a whatnot auction. Like how to keep track of each sale and eith shipping. Im wanting to start auctions once ir twice a month with my reg job to pay for my new car off faster. Thanks so much. Love your stories
Good topic about the shipping. I would love to hear the explanation why these platforms charge fees on tax. My wife and I always wondered that. It is complete B.S.!! Please touch on that in an upcoming. I would ask Kevin but it seems he has SO many topics he’s talking about 😆
Dave, you should start a merch line as an additional revenue stream. I already have 2 t-shirt ideas: one that says 'Pure Profit' and the other that says 'Undersold and Overpaid'.
My old bosses had a sleep number and it did nothing for them but waste their money. They had it financed and from what I could tell it was around ten grand and they paid payments for years. The only things I try to buy new are cars and movies. Cars because it’s just snowy enough in my part of NC that they constantly salt the roads and it makes used cars super ify. Movies because I collect them and I want them to work. Most of my stuff is media mail so it won’t affect me that much the thing is remembering to get weight and dimensions correct and it doesn’t bite as bad. You could do flat rate on a lot of things and hope prices don’t go nuts.
Used furniture is fine. But you have to be careful. About 6 years ago I had an infestation of bed bugs , thanks to my neighbor. Once you've been through that used furniture can be a bit scary.
I am not happy about the shipping change. I need to double check the weights on all my listings. I also need to be more careful about sending offers. I feel I need to keep the discounted rate to be competitive. It's weird because it seems to me that the postal discounts are variable not always the same % off.
We got a "secondhand" mattress that a lady just had in her spare room- like new and it was $350! BEST MATTRESS EVER! We paid $1500 for our last one and it went lumpy and weird really fast. Always grew up reusing, recycling- why pay full price?
I give the discounted rate to buyers already, so I’m going to just ignore the email. I finally bought myself a new bed a few years ago and I don’t regret it. I bought my last couch at a clearance sale because I wanted delivery.
I am not cool with the shipping change, but I left it opted in because like you said, I wouldn’t be competitive otherwise. And yes, I absolutely think it was in response to Mercari. I can no longer get large items because I’m too old to drive, my stuff is in a storage locker that I have to take two buses to, and I can’t lift big things into the bus. So more power to you all who can!
I got a Hermes and it sat around waiting on me to list. I ended up showing it to a friend and she loves it always nice to gift 😅 it was a one off in a pile of jewelry for me.
I don’t like the shipping change but will go with it. I’m typically a small ticket item seller so always appreciated the dollar or two I got from the discounted shipping. Especially when they charge their fees on it as well. That part really makes me mad because it’s a losing situation. If they do that I wish they wouldn’t charge us fees on the shipping.
Can anyone share how to opt out of the new shipping policy. I already underestimate my weights to keep my buyers shipping lower. I definitely don't want to discount those rate further. I never got an email for this.
I haven’t got email yet but someone shared an opt out link. Can’t believe they are messing with our business model by requiring an opt out. Poor service by eBay to the sellers. But typical.
I once ordered a pizza from Dominos. Dude knocked on my door and I opened it only to see his car roll through my garage door because I have a hill and he didn't put his vehicle in park and once it got to the top of the hill, it took off at idle speed right through the garage, lol
People that get grossed out don't realize eating off silverware and cups from restaurants would be just as gross, hospitals and hotel linens are the worst because whether sterilized or not someones bodily fluids had contact. I don't mind a used mattress but i need to know who had it before me, if i don't know the home it came from i wouldn't want it.
I still have not been notified by eBay about the shipping change. Does that mean mine won’t change? Is this a good thing or is this gonna make my listings be much more expensive shipping-wise?
When I list something, I put what I paid for it in the custome sku so I know if it was profitable or not when I get an offer, sell it or when it's been a year or two since I listed it. Example sku 5565/ 25.00
Is eBay still going to charge a fee on shipping paid by the customers? I use to give the discounted shipping rate for the customers until I realized eBay charged a fee to me on what they paid for shipping. So I was losing $ on every item sold and shipped.
When I sell large or heavy items. I go to fedex and have them ship and pack the item. I charge a little more to compensate my time to get it there and packaging. So far my customers don’t mind, they actually like that. PS … I sell on mercari.
I have alerady changed my store to discount rate, and yes I end up paying extra for shipping becuase of mistakes I made in estimating weight and size of the packeage. Now the advanage of offering discount shipping will end because everyone will be at discounting shipping.
It’s typical ADHD emotional dis regulation. Big feelings basically. There’s a reason it feels like the end of the world…. For many people with ADHD, the brain’s gating mechanism for regulating emotion does not distinguish between dangerous threats and more minor problems. These individuals are often thrown into panic mode by thoughts or perceptions that do not warrant such a reaction. As a result, the ADHD brain can’t deal more rationally and realistically with events that are stressful. Backed out of my driveway once with my door open. ADHD squirrel moment for sure. I’ld put money on mom and aunt having ADHD. Glad you talk openly about ADHD.
The eBay shipping thing is kinda annoying, but it’s easy to opt out. I sell mostly breakable stuff which requires boxes, bubble wrap, etc, and that stuff is expensive. Plus, I only sell vintage, so my customers typically aren’t that price sensitive. Easy decision to opt out.
Ebay does not play with Hermes. I actually had a really old scarf, hand rolled edges, all the correct markings, I dated to about 1950's-60's. Ebay just rolled in and ended it...end of story do not relist.
My issue is that I short change the shipping weight/size to kind of split the difference. So, I have two sh***y options a) update shipping specs on hundreds of listings or b) opt out.
I had a sleep study years ago and was shocked to find out that they have only sleep number beds. I have to say I had the deepest sleep, most comfortable night's sleep of my life. I have always wanted one since that night BUT, I'm not rich, I'm a reseller Duh. lmao
The discounted shipping wouldn't be bad. But they are chargeing fees in shipping also. they said the discounted shipping made up to the sellers for charging fees in the total including shipping??
I believe it was $400 for the bears. Awesome video I really enjoy all your videos thanks for sharing. I haven't received a email about the shipping yet, but I'm really small. My shipping is still the same right now, but I haven't checked in a couple of days.😊
The smart sellers will all opt out on the discount shipping. Those that don't will notice they are losing money on each sale and either opt out then or quit Ebay altogether. Another less likely option is sellers adding handling charges that will actually cause their shipping to go up. Forget going free shipping unless you are already doing it because then you can't deduct shipping on returned items.

Im feeling the ADHD situation today too! You are definitely not alone😂The phone story is me on the daily😉
Thanks Dave
Thank you for checking in. My mom is ok, it was her twin sister who was injured. She is doing better
Great buy on the bed some people will be turned off but those same people will sleep on a bed at a hotel that hundreds of people slept on go figure 😂❤
Very true!
So what was the issue with the post office?
I never thought of using pool noodles as packaging. I’ll have to try that. I still can’t decide whether to opt out or not. 🤷♀️
Wow. Did not know abt the shipping rate.
Dave, you're the only picker I know that can tell 3 stories at once, lol.
Oh Dave
You left me in suspense 😂😂
Was the bed comfortable
Hi David, I didn’t know that about your Aunt, I’m so glad she’s ok now. God Bless her and your entire Family. I love you and your Family, you are such nice people. I always enjoy seeing all of you. Your friend Loretta. Peace n Blessings ❤❤😊😊
Thank you!
I opted out of eBay's latest bright idea.
Thanks!
One last thing. Hopefully the estate sale with the sleep number bed wasn't in the villages. Kevin might've used it too if that's the case.
Haha
Funny video. Thumb nail should have been about the SleepNumber. Good deal.
So I can get this order out
Rockstar Flipper talked abt the ebay thing last week with the link to opt out which i did immediately... totally not cool with ebay and this change!
i have had mine at discount since u talked about it last time when the ground advantage kept showing the 8-9 bucks to ship one item
24:58 You can opt out until May 13, 2024. The changes take effect on May 15, 2024.
Hell no, I'm changing back to the retail rate. I often lose on shipping even with calculated shipping and the retail rate gives me a cushion
I switched mine back to normal shipping without the discount to the buyer. We will see how it all shakes out!
Dave CK treasures are selling his eBay business because he's fed up, great video love your family
Smart video idea. Show how to turn the shipping feature off lol
Oh goodness that's so awful to hear that happened! I'm glad she's much better!
22:32 is when the subject of the charge is discussed
I give the discounted rate to buyers already, so I’m going to just ignore the email. I finally bought myself a new bed a few years ago and I don’t regret it. I bought my last couch at a clearance sale because I wanted delivery.
I live in Washington State. I'm wishing I was in the center of the USA. Shipping is crazy high!!
Do a yay yay sounds like a dance move lol. Glad your aunt is doing better!
Yes! Thank you!
I’ve always given my customers the shipping discount. It seems unethical to me to make money on shipping.
But typical.
you completely lost me on the retail or discounted shipping rate. Where do we find that option?
I just saw pissing and punching's latest video 😂😂 I mean picking and punching *** 😂😂
Looks like the white vehicle parked outside had a real low tire (maybe it was just the camera view). Check it with your air pressure guage 😂
I once ordered a pizza from Dominos. Dude knocked on my door and I opened it only to see his car roll through my garage door because I have a hill and he didn't put his vehicle in park and once it got to the top of the hill, it took off at idle speed right through the garage, lol
Oh my!!
Example sku 5565/ 25.00
dave do you know if ebay will change this shipping thing if you just do a set price, or is this for calculated shipping. I only do set prices.
Is eBay still going to charge a fee on shipping paid by the customers? I use to give the discounted shipping rate for the customers until I realized eBay charged a fee to me on what they paid for shipping. So I was losing $ on every item sold and shipped.
I hope they dont
Do you use poster VA also? Or does Vendu do everything that Posher VA does also?
I use flat rate shipping so it doesn't really impact me
When I sell large or heavy items.
Are you going to opt out or allow change?
The eBay shipping thing is kinda annoying, but it’s easy to opt out. I sell mostly breakable stuff which requires boxes, bubble wrap, etc, and that stuff is expensive. Plus, I only sell vintage, so my customers typically aren’t that price sensitive. Easy decision to opt out.
eBay told me that there is no change happening. I just got off the phone with a representative trying to figure out how to opt out.
Be careful of the bracelet..... there's a ton of fake Hermes bracelets out there - I had one, had to throw it out.
Ebay does not play with Hermes. I actually had a really old scarf, hand rolled edges, all the correct markings, I dated to about 1950's-60's. Ebay just rolled in and ended it...end of story do not relist.
As for the eBay change, I don't do calculated shipping anyways, so it won't affect me. Feel like it's just better to do flat rate
Hey Dave I was looking into getting a new thermal printer. Which one do you use again? I remember you saying it was cheaper and you like it
I always do flat rate. So not worried bout their shipping BS
My issue is that I short change the shipping weight/size to kind of split the difference. So, I have two sh***y options a) update shipping specs on hundreds of listings or b) opt out.
I had a sleep study years ago and was shocked to find out that they have only
sleep number beds. I have to say I had the deepest sleep, most comfortable night's sleep
of my life. I have always wanted one since that night BUT, I'm not rich, I'm a reseller Duh. lmao
Hermes for $2 👌🏼
I opted out of the eBay change. When eBay combines shipping I always get the short end of it. I would really lose if we gave the discount
The discounted shipping wouldn't be bad. But they are chargeing fees in shipping also. they said the discounted shipping made up to the sellers for charging fees in the total including shipping??
eBay is looking to make back lost sales charging the lower shipping.
In our state you can't buy used mattresses. Bedbugs.
I believe it was $400 for the bears. Awesome video I really enjoy all your videos thanks for sharing. I haven't received a email about the shipping yet, but I'm really small. My shipping is still the same right now, but I haven't checked in a couple of days.😊
My pacifica van automatically goes in park if i open the drivers door.
