- We take our narrowboat on the mighty River Trent and feel very small! Join us on our cruise from Nottingham to Gunthorpe with Fran and Rich from RUclips channel Floating Our Boat (@FloatingOurBoat ) as we tackle our first automated giant lock, and stay on a very noisy, but exciting mooring!
Hello! We're Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!
If you would like to support our channel you can buy us a coffee or the westies some treats here www.buymeacoff... (we are saving up for new audio equipment!)

It’s amazing to think of those in history that travelled Trent before you. Now you’re part of that history.
That’s so true! We love the history of the canals and rivers and what an important part they played 😊
We enjoyed the last 3 vlogs. The chance that my wife and I visit your lovely country are slim, so we also love to see your excursions into the towns and villages. Thank You,
John and Cindy ( Idaho)
So happy you are enjoying a little glimpse of our beautiful country John. We are loving exploring so much of it that we haven’t seen before, and taking our home with us while we do it. Thanks for watching 😊
Wow, what an intro! 🙂 After you started cruising the Trent, I hope the folks in that apartment/condo complex appreciated that they were looking at such a famous Narrowboater out on the water. 🙂 Absolutely stunning and gorgeous videos of the cruise, and of the explanation of the lock transits. What beautiful country you live in. ah, I box trained my dog to a litter box, so much easier! Male and female dogs can be so trained, just saying. 🙂
I rewatched the intro Ann, as this was a while ago, and laughed all over again at the memory of Pete finding that done up bra wrapped around our propeller! I never knew you could train dogs to a litter box! That would be a good solution on the rivers when you can't just stop when they need to go! 😊
I am absolutely delighted to watch the videos. I know for sure that I'm your biggest fan in Brazil. 😃😃Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Thank you so much for joining us from Brazil! 🇧🇷
Lovely video. This one is truly different with the River Trent, opposed to the canals. Those locks intimidate me, just watching. That huge one was down right scary. Some adventures are better when shared. I love seeing the wild fowl and the pasture life. Safe travels.
The River Trent certainly was a different experience for us Shirley! We were so thankful to be sharing that first huge lock with friends who had done it before, and really, after that first one, it was far less intimidating when we knew how easy it was! Thanks for watching 😊
Lovely vlog! Wow those locks are huge! Nice to see Fran & Rich too, nice one xx 😘
Thank you! Absolutely HUUUGE locks 😂
What a lovely vlog and such happy times with you both in the sunshine ☀️ xx
It was so lovely editing this and reliving some of those happy summer memories. Sometimes it pays to be so behind in editing 😂 😊
PFD = Personal Floatation Device as the technical name, otherwise known as a Life Preserver also as a technically correct term, but commonly known as a Life Jacket, so you were perfectly correct in calling it a Life Preserver.
Pete will not let me forget that he was actually right now 😂. Thanks for the clarification and for watching 😊
Thank you, another great vlog…..🙏✝️🙏🇨🇦
Thanks James 😊
Been to Newark lots of history there , Cromwell messed it about a bit
We loved our time in Newark, and it was wonderful cruising right past the castle. I’m just editing that now for the next vlog. Lovely memories. Thanks for watching 😊
Good vlog I will watch you on your adventures. It was good to see Fran & Rich super people. Stay safe and well, Ed40 S of Vegas
Thanks Ed! We had such a lovely time cruising with Fran and Rich in the summer. Happy memories. Thanks for watching 😊
Lovely vlog.. love Deb & Paul NB LADY in red ♥
Thanks so much Deb and Paul! What are your cruising plans this year ? 😊
RIP Jasper ❤
Thank you ❤️
Enjoying
That’s good to hear! Thanks for watching 😊
Pete + ice cream = huge smile, I know that feeling! Great vlog as usual guys, great to see Fran and Rich too. Take care
We had some great times with them this summer. Lots of happy memories as I’m editing! And yes, give Pete a 99 and he’s happy 😊
omg star struck.......... the famous Laura maisie...... of fran and Rich....I have followed them for years since their beginning.... great and lovely couple...
They really are! We watched them when we were planning this boat life whilst still living in Texas, and then became virtual friends, and then finally became real life friends. It was a wonderful summer leap frogging them all the way down to Boston, Lincolnshire and back 😊
Good cruise… 💜
Glad you enjoyed it Lynda 😊
When did you realise it was Fran and Ritch (Floating our Boat) on the narrowboat in front - and not Mark and Debbie (Well Deck Diaries)?? 😂 Lovely vlog as usual - thank you. Keep safe.
That was Pete having a little joke 😂. We’d arranged to meet up with Fran and Rich, and the next few videos filmed in the summer have us leap frogging each other all the way to Boston and back. Lovely memories 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Men! 🙄😂😂. Will look forward to your next video with the usual excitement and anticipation.
How beautiful is that river. The locks are huge. Note to self ensure Thelma has her break before heading off 😀 thank you lovely Vlog xx
It really is beautiful Jacquie! And we started telling the dogs that this was their last chance to go before we set off, because we couldn’t just stop like they were used to on the canals! 😊
Another lovely video. Great Landscapes and I always enjoy the black and white shots. Watching your posts always makes me miss England. So glad I got to spent 4 years there.
Glad we can bring a little of the UK to you! Whereabouts were you when you were here? 😊
RAF Lakenheath
Enjoy your vlogs and the river trent, I'm a Nottingham born man and remember mum and dad taking us as children to Hovingham that's where we did some fishing on the river, a pub close by had people doing water skiing and having a barge going past every now and then caused the river to change level due to the shape of the barge, all very interesting and something to remember. xxx
Glad our video sparked some lovely memories for you. We certainly made some lovely memories this summer. It was beautiful. Thanks for watching 😊
Love your videos. So peaceful and beautiful. Thank you.
That’s so lovely to hear. Glad you are enjoying them 😊
Another great video and with most excellent traveling companions . . . a real treat! Thank you!
We had some wonderful adventures with them this summer Ron. And we definitely benefited from their expertise at that first massive lock! Happy memories for sure. Thanks for watching 😊
Its funny to watch your videos, having seen a lot of cruising videos the last year or so, i am starting to recognize some of the places and buildings along the canals. As always, i love your videos and you. You are wonderful to watch.
That’s so lovely of you to say! We too started recognising places we saw in boating vlogs, even before we moved back to the UK, and now we are getting to see some of them in real life it’s wonderful 😊
You guys pick the best places to stop! Great vlog, as usual.
We have picked some memorable places. It’s been a great journey so far. Thanks for watching 😊
Can’t wait to do the Nottinghamshire canals now after watching this! You did well in those huge locks 😊 lovely vlog
You guys know only too well how fainted you are by some things, and then after you’ve done them it’s not such a big deal after all! Those huge locks come in that category! Give me an automated lock over a windlass anyway, except when the automation fails and you’re stuck with no lock keeper 😂 Yep, that happens in an upcoming vlog. We can highly recommend the Trent. It’s wide and just beautiful, especially in the lovely weather we had this summer 😊
Thanks x
Thanks for watching Edward 😊
Lovely trip, I've put Nottingham on the destination list but might be a little too far for me.
You should do the Severn Locks, automated and bigger!!
We were talking about the Severn last night! That first lock was so daunting, but glad we had the experts with us! Now we are not as intimated by those monsters! And definitely add Nottingham and Newark into your list 😊
That was a great Vlog. Glad you were able to go along with Fran and Rich. What month was this cruise? The river was deserted except for you two and the wide beam. There were even moorings available. Beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing. 🤗😊❤️🐾🐾🐾 Kathy
This was early July Kathy, and was quite empty then, but you’ll see in upcoming vlogs that it’s gets busier, with no space on some moorings, and a few rapidly changed plans! We had such a great time cruising with Fran and Rich. New waters for both of us 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Looking forward to more! 🤗😊🐾🐾🐾❤️ Kathy
Hello Both, Doing good. Question: What engine do have fitted re power for the River Trent travel? Great guitar music🎸👍Xx
Thanks so much Julie! We have a Canaline 42 so we would have more power for river cruising 😊
Foot Loose seemed huge compared to your friends narrow boat!
Yes Lawrence, the widebeam boats are twice the width of narrowboats, typically 12ft wide. We saw quite a few on river as there is no danger of them not fitting through the locks! 😊
The Trent and its very high and somewhat intimidating automated locks remind me of our boating times on New York State’s Barge Canal. The very first time was the scariest! Another fascinating video and I thank you for sharing.
it was not attached to any one i hope
We hope not! Thanks for watching 😊
That grubby bra 😂
The star of the show 😂
@@onedaymoreaboard lol. Watched on TV the other night so couldn’t comment x
