  • DICE SLS
    FREESTYLE / WAVE
    The Dice is known for Freestyle, smashing loops and even performs in waves when steered actively - and it just got the SLS upgrade. Every enthusiastic progressive rider look out, here comes the all-new Dice SLS!
    The Dice has been a tricks and megaloops champion for a long time now, designed to excel at big air and perform to the highest standards in freestyle and even waves; it boasts an army of fans worldwide. New for 2022, the Dice gets the Strong Light Superior makeover and a complete redesign to improve the performance. Whenever new materials are introduced, the design parameters change. Therefore, the riders and designer Ralf Grösel need to go back to the drawing board and get the most out of the materials and the kite. To say they achieved those goals would be a huge understatement. The new Penta TX frame construction combined with the Trinity TX canopy has created a Dice like no other. The weight has been even further reduced, making the kite far more responsive in the air and increasing the overall wind range. This loss of weight has also increased the kite's flying qualities, making mega loops smooth and on the way back up, the Dice SLS never gets stuck, in the waves you directly feel the increased drift. The kite jumps higher, hangs in the air for longer, and the mega loops have even more control! The team also tweaked the kites unhooked performance too, fine-tuning the power release after you pop, to allow you to get even more tricks on the scoreboard. It has been said in the past, but the new 2022 Dice SLS is undoubtedly the most impressive performing Freestyle kite on the water. Capable of taking you to the podium not only at a big air event, but also at the freestyle competition. This quiver killer kite can trade blows with the Vegas, while pulling jumps and loops big enough to win the King of the Air. It isn't often that a leap forwards in performance like this comes along. If getting bigger jumps, landing more complex tricks and even smashing some waves gets you excited for a session, you will need the Dice SLS in your quiver.

    I saw a EVO SLS 12 meter but he can’t do more with it in lighter wind than me on my 2014 Ozone Catalyst 12 meter. 7 years of all new and best ever stories but it is almost the same. Ok to save 500 Gramm is nice for travel but is it worth the price? How much cost a square meter of that fabric material? I will not recommend any beginner to buy old material but also you will not have automatically more fun wit the most expensive. Have a good time on the water and forget about brand or “all new” if they not sponsor you with the material.

    Is this material going to be more affordable as time goes on do you think and become the standard LE material?

    I find that the dice sls 2022 has much more pull than previous years when unhooked. This becomes very noticeable at higher windspeeds (like 20/21+ kts on 11). I just can't get rid of the power after popping. After switching to my 2018 dice 11m I can unhook normally again (create slack after pop). Is there some difference between the dice SLS and dice that causes way more pull when unhooked? I can't very well do unhooked tricks if the kite pulls like a truck.

      It's no so much that it's the Dice or the Dice SLS. It's that that the newer Dice model since 2021 have been more tuned towards Big Air than Freestyle. If you do pure Freestyle the Vegas' is still recommened!

    I love Dice, own 9 and 12 meters. But I use it on medium settings, after trying both soft and hard settings. Because I honestly don't like so much bar pressure especially when I am kitelooping. The medium setting gives me enough feedback that I know kite's locations in the air. Now I am trying to understand why the hard setting is promoted for kiteloops. I am really curious to figure it out, in case I am missing something. Thanks!

      @rubensbrazilianbrothers 2 года назад +1

      People will generally use the hard setting on the faster sizes (8 and smaller) to slow down the loop and make it more extreme/aggressive. If you are just getting into kiteloops, I'd probably stick with the soft setting. A faster kite will increase the likelihood that it will catch you after the loop.

    • @getsharp
      @getsharp 2 года назад

      @@rubensbrazilianbrothers That makes a lot of sense. Thanks! See, this is one issue we have in kiteboarding. There is so much information around without context. There should be clear distinctions, this recommendation is for this size kites and for this wind range, it would create this effect, etc...

    • @jockegw
      @jockegw 2 года назад

      @@rubensbrazilianbrothers No, the harder setting gives a faster loop. Harder bar pressure because the steering is more direct, the connection is closer to the pivot point. Softer setting is further back, giving softer input, bigger loops, softer bar pressure - a slower loop with more pull...
      To get the fastest loop (which is easiest because it will have less time in the power zone) you set it to the hard setting. Problem with this is that it also gives you more bar pressure, and that's why it's more of an advanced rider setting.

    • @rubensbrazilianbrothers

      @@jockegw Incorrect, soft setting = faster kite while hard setting = slower kite. Here’s one of the many videos on youtube that explains it. ruclips.net/video/SvBQSiFRKGQ/видео.html Also consider watching Blake Olsen’s “North Orbit and kite settings video” for insight on kiteloops specifically

    • @DUOTONEKiteboarding
      @DUOTONEKiteboarding  2 года назад +3

      We would agree with this!! The hard setting increases bar pressure and increases the radius of the turn... it will also deliver more power through the loop on the hard setting. So it is best to start with the soft setting and progress to the hard setting when you are ready. Always start with your like as close to 12 o'clock when you throw the loop too... this will help!

    Interesting how all the duotone prices have gone up yet again. Partially the reason why I've switched to North. £1489 for 9m Dice SLS or £1339 for a 9m orbit. I know which one I'd choose.

      Sls is more expensive.... If you buy the normal version dice, it costs less than an orbit. In my opinion both kites are good, but dice loops way smoother and feels a lot more direct :)
