  • I set off to on my first backpacking trip in months to hike Mt. Webster, Mt. Jackson, Mt. Pierce & Mt. Eisenhower. When I noticed how rare and beautiful the weather was in the Presidential Mountains, I kept on hiking and hit the peaks of Mt. Monroe and Mt. Washington too!
Besides being lucky with the perfect weather, I also enjoyed my beautiful spot at the Naumann Tentsite, getting to watch the Lake of the Clouds Hut resupply via helicopter, and getting to meet so many new people!

I'm older and have done a lot of solo traveling and frankly like it that way. The last time I stayed at a hostel, I noticed the young people weren't talking, they were all looking at their phones. They are really missing an opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world. Thanks for sharing.

What an amazing hike. It's heartening to know there are still places you can leave a new bike locked up for a few days without it being stripped or stolen outright! Definitely I'll be taking the crappiest bike I own and/or thoroughly hiding it if I ever get the nerve to try a bike spotting trip!

(On the AT) It is also a training hike for the Geochalla trek in sikkim India in oct…. the part of your video that made me want to be backpacking the most was when you were in your tent just starting to pack up. That means it’s push time ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and congrats on your baby hiker.

Hey Taylor. I'm gonna have to say there's absolutely no reason whatsoever why people wouldn't want to talk to you. I can think of a few reasons why they didn't engage.
1 from personal experience in the backcountry if there's a woman alone I usually do not go further than giving my friendliest good morning good evening ect. My reasoning is I don't want to appear threatening in any way .
    2. Perhaps your appearance of being such a seasoned hiker was intimidating to them. Sometimes people gate keep themselves from someone in the backcountry who's obviously got it going on with ease.
I'm sure there are many more possibilities. But the fact of the matter is your presence around the campfire will only enhance the backcountry experience.
Thanks for sharing your vulnerable experience that's never an easy do. Much respect ✊!
Also would have loved to see the bike experience perhaps next time.

When I got to Lakes of the Clouds I was not in the mood to bag Washington and not in the mood to head back down Crawford Path so I took Ammo down, yes, I went down Ammo and WALKED back to my car. I need to clock it but I think there were at least 5 miles between the Crawford Path Trail head and Crawford Path Trail head. By the time I was back at my car, I was in tears because my feet hurt so bad. It’s funny…you showed wonderful equipment and places and only one minute of the video was about loneliness, yet 9/10 comments are about loneliness. 😳 Nice hike, looking forward to your details of AT NH. My brother and I want to do it someday so that will help us.

I do understand how you felt weird at the hut. I feel the same way if I enter the huts when they are full of paying guests. I feel like I am crashing a party. As an accomplished thru hiker, you probably long for the wisdom of thru hiker talk and you probably won't find that in an AMC Hut full of wealthy guests. I am not saying they aren't nice people, but they tend to be lacking in trail wisdom.

How tall are you and how did you fit in the Plex Solo? Do you think that it would be too small for someone who's 6'1" on a 3" thick sleeping pad?

I'm 5'8'''. It was a little close to the top while sitting up in the tent, but it was pretty roomy when laying down.

Maybe you used the wrong pro nouns or something at the hut...they seem to be pretty big on that stuff there.
