If you know Malta how it is looking now - it can make you cry. What a peaceful island it was.

So peaceful that people died of hunger, beggars everywhere, no jobs, no social benefits to an extent that a good part of the population had to emigrate.

Absolute gem of a video, watched this with my Mum who was in her teens and she loved it. She’s 82 now but so many memories for her. We’ll done for posting this.

A very beautiful film thank you for sharing. It brought tears to my eyes especially when I saw the Volvo 122 Amazon. Among those elegant men driving the volvo is my dear ħaye father John and his two brothers Alfred and Lewis. It must have been taken in the early 60s cause my father was wearing his wedding ring and he was married in 59. One of the Volvo belonged to my grand father Tony and the other to mr. Arthur Caruana (also in the clip) who owned the Ambassador shirt factory. All persons rip.

Yup, we've come a long way baby. I was a kid when this was shot. I remember we had sidewalks and when you got out of your house, you weren't in mortal danger of getting run over by a passing car. How things have changed, the car is now king.

I've been reading the comments & I disagree with the notion that Malta is ruined. We were in valletta yesterday..what a fantastic job they've done cleaning it up!! When I was a kid it was just old worn valletta but today everything is looking tidy & clean & the bus terminal has been sorted out & paved & the fountain has been restored & the buildings cleaned & well...its such a pleasure to be there!! I feel proud to show it off to our many visitors!! Everywhere u go there's been every effort to make things greener..our round abouts look AMAZING!! As for sliema...well the 60s brought some appalling artiticure with it & all those buildings need either refacing or just pulling down! But we need a modern part of the Island don't We? Not everyone wants old fashioned & traditional..but if u walk through the back streets it's still got the traditional feel with some smart apartment blocks too. Mosta isn't spoiled...there ARE lots of places that are still Malta! In the 50s & 60s I remember Malta being like a very untidy barracks!! With war ships in our grand harbour & soldiers everywhere..I'd rather see Malta as a smart tourist attraction! The only good thing about us being a barracks was all the lovely British family's that were based here! Obviously the development has to be kept under some sort of control because we are only tiny!! In modern Malta we are no longer a barracks...most people are employed..no body goes hungry...nobody has to imagrate & leave tbeir homes & familys..women are no longer second class citizens & everyone lives in a nice home..wether it's a modern apartment block or a renovated tradisonal home. & we have shopping!!! & we have mobile phones so we can keep tabs on our children when they leave the house to make sure they are safe..we have Nexflix!! The only thing that's ruining Malta is this open boarder policy so that any Tom Dick or Harry can come in making us feel a little over whelmed!! (The eye watering corruption WAS going to happen anyway..no getting away from that shameful embarrassment I'm afraid)

I was a child there in the 50s and sixties. I was always hungry, but never really thought much about it, I thought that was normal. I remember distinctly being supremely happy and quite oblivious of my parent’s daily struggles to put food on the table. Most people then were just getting by. However, I never, ever saw anyone homeless, begging or destitute like you often see in 2020.

George Bronte Well most of the food we get nowadays comes from other countries and is of low quality. It seems we haven’t really improved that much if you think of it in the long run.

Wonderful film, I suspect a lot was filmed on Sundays, from the way people are dressed. I am aware Malta was quite poor during the fifties. I would have loved to have visited it back then. My first visit was 1988. I have returned many times, the changes are immense, sadly not all for the better. One hotel Manager told me, the visitors now are more used to the Spanish Costa's and have little or no knowledge of Malta. Was their a special significance concerning the 2 Volvo Amazon series cars, close to the end? Love the choice of music.

Although Malta was still mostly pristine, one can see in this video, especially towards the end, that some "concrete blocks" had already starting being built. The building boom which would eventually ruin Malta completely started in the 1950s, then exploded in the 60s, and got completely out of hand by the 2000s.

Back then, it had a lot more potential but now in my eyes, Malta is failing as a country, the island is more populated, Maltese roots are vanishing due to the migration of many people and modernity is ruining the old historic country, generations are changing and it is getting worse and worse, we will never reach this golden age ever again.

81 Know that once you have rejected the Gospel of your time, it is over for you!!! Your fasts and prayers are abominations! Your zeal, your fruits of Galatians 5:22 are abominations and above all, your Jesus is Satan. [Ed: The congregation says, "Amen!"].
82 And when a prophet messenger is preaching, any pastor, teacher, prophet, evangelist or apostle who does not carry his Message is from the devil. You have to be the echo of his Message otherwise it is the devil that you serve.
