Early Chicago was AMAZING!!! "25 or 6 to 4" from this same concert has one of the greatest guitar solos ever. "Beginnings" is another one worth checking out.
Now quick while this is in your mind, do 25 or 6 to 4 from the same concert. It will blow you away too. I saw Chicago live 5 times in the 70's, they were spectacular every time.
Terry Kath guitars, Peter Cetera bass, Robert Lamm keyboard, Danny Seraphine drums, Walter Parazaider Saxophone, Lee Loughane Trumpet, and the great James Pankow on Trumpet. This band kicked ass big time.
I hung out at Tanglewood back in the 70s…so many great musicians and fun times, even on the lawn there! Saw so many inventive, cool people and their great talents! It was an amazing time to be alive.
They were the shit when Terry Kath was alive..so fucking glad I was born in 1953 cause I hit the jackpot of all jackpots with the music of the 60s&70s.
The people of today still have access to this great music and with all the streaming services they can listen to anything they enjoy. Back in the sixties, there were very few radio stations, the same with TV
Born 1952 and can't sit still listening to so much unique artistic musicians in the 60s and 70s. What a time! No computer magic, no auto tune; just pure raw talent - one band after another!
I love these sections where these pros show us what can be done with all the rhythm instruments that we pounded away at in elementary school: cowbell, block, triangle, tambourine etc
I love that your cat, like ours, always has to be a part of whatever we're doing! Adorable. The albums of the time, Like "Chicago Transit Authority", were conceived as whole albums, with an art tto song arrangement. I'm 28 yrs. sober, and trust me, it still sounds incredible. Terry Kath and Freddie Prinze were gone too soon from playing with guns, perhaps under the influence. I don't know if Katz was sober and just careless, but Prinze's friends believe it was an accidental death, not suicide, and he was too high to hold up the gun or handle it safely. Too horrific losses. Kath was so, so good. I love Peter Cetera's voice, too, so it's not a knock on newer Chicago music.
I got to see Chicago in '78 when Terry Kath was still with them. Phenomenal! And more recently I saw Chicago just last week, three original members still there. They did this song as well.
A kid in my class in high school wanted to be a drummer when this song first came out. All he ever did in class was play the drum solo from this song with pencils on his desk. 😀 I lost track of him after we graduated so I don't know if he ever made a living playing drums or not.
Terry Kath (guitar) and Danny Seraphine (drums) are the B.E.S.T!!!! I saw Danny last year, and he's still got it, even after having a heart attack in 2022. And he still ALWAYS chews gum (just as you could see him chewing when he took that momentary breather during his RAD solo). Chicago still tours, and they still have (I believe) 3 original members. Kath passed young, but the others are still kickin'. The guy on cowbell is the trombone player, James Pankow, and he wrote many (most?) of the band's arrangements.
The early 70’s was the day of vinyl records playing on hi quality stereo equipment (amps, turntables and speakers). My friends and I used to get lost in the music. Nothing today matches the sound. In those days mine was a state of the art Pioneer turn table and amplifier with monster speakers. The sound was clean and without distortion even at high decibels.
I feel so lucky to have grown up in the 60s & 70s, played in a band, married my high school sweetheart. Still listen to rock, play git with one of my grands who play bass, and still married to that same high school sweetheart.
Saw the exact same lineup the same year, 1970, in concert at my GF's high school no less! This was in Berkeley Heights, NJ. I think this song might've been their encore, great show!
@@TheAdventuresofTNT as I said in the chat on the live stream the other night you need to look up the documentary about Kath’s daughter looking for background on her father and his original guitar that she ended up finding a lot of cool history and backstory about Terry !!!
@@TheAdventuresofTNT The Tanglewood performance of 25 Or 6 To 4 will have you grabbing an ice pack for your jaw after you hear Terry Kath's epic solo. "Poem 58" on their debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority led by Terry on guitar will have you believing that God wishes he could play guitar as well as Terry could!
Thanks for reacting to this 1970 concert video of Chicago. I was 16 at the time and saw this very same show a week later in Allentown, Pa, outside at the Fairgrounds. It was breathtaking. Such musicianship, they Rocked out !!! 😮
The 70s era of music was special. You name it Hard Rock, Funk, Soul and the live albums were incredible. Bands wanted to put out ALBUMS not one hit wonders. Double albums were historic. Super groups who sold out stadiums. This era influences so much music to this day. Proud to say I was a teen in this decade. Amazing music!
TNT....all early Chicago was fire...they were a rock band with horns, and they kicked major arse! More from the debut (Chicago TRansit Authority), II,III and/or V albums, please. You'll love it! :-) T
Got to see this lineup live 3 times. Most recently, I saw the latest lineup in 2016, touring with Earth, Wind and Fire. A friend saw them last night, touring once again with Earth, Wind and Fire. Go see them if you get the chance! My favorite songs are when Terry Kath was still alive.
This is the stuff tat I grew up on, I was 14 whe this came out. Chicago died along with Terry Kath. They devolved into a sappy ballad band. They had three good singers but nobody could play that gee-tar like Kath. Check out 25 or 6 to 4 from the same concert and buckle up!

This is why you go see Bands, instead of one person on stage the whole time, they never pay tribute to the people playing... today its more about the Industry convincing you that today's music is awesome...not even close...JMO..
This is why music was di much better then vs now. You had to play snd you had to sing and the love performances were usually electrifying and jamming. Today it's so non organic and not of this caliber musicianship wise. Depends on where you look but radio is severely lacking this type of talent.
Early Chicago was AMAZING!!! "25 or 6 to 4" from this same concert has one of the greatest guitar solos ever. "Beginnings" is another one worth checking out.
ALL of Chicago is amazing. We still love going to their concerts.
Yes, 25 or 6 to 4 at Tanglewood is a Must Watch. Face-melting guitar solo!
The greatest period
Hope you got to watch the whole concert T....an absolute must.
One of the Best Ever Guitar Solo`s was done at this very show...Terry Kath was a REAL BADASS...you have to see it "25 or 6 to 4" at this Show!
Terry Kath was an official, card carrying Beast!
Hendrix himself was even like, Daaam!
TK for the win
@@nodaysback1 Jimi said words to the effect of “Kath is the best guitarist in the universe.”
Absolutely 💯
Terry's solo in 25 or 6 to 4 from this concert is epic! Another of the greats gone way too early. Chicago was never the same.

The best part is they all look like they're having fun.
The whole Tanglewood concert was fantastic.
AGREED!!
This is a cover of the hit by the Spencer Davis Group, with Steve Winwood on organ and vocals.

Early Chicago. Can’t beat it

Before Terry Kath passed, one of the great bands of all time
"25 or 6 to 4" live at the same Tanglewood concert, is also great! AND, you get to hear some horns! 👀😂❤ Definitely worth a listen as well.
They were in a league of their own! As a whole, one of the most talented bands of all time!
This was the last song of the night so they were already amped up by this point. One of the best full concert videos you can find on youtube.
glad you enjoyed it so much. i was 19 when tanglewood happened. many nights in a smoke-filled room listening to chicago. rip Terry Kath.

Terry Kath was a beast on guitar. Like everyone else is commenting 25 or 6 to 4 from this same show is incredible. The solo will blow your mind.
The early Chicago, man. So good.
Lol and this is a cover! They are so great.❤

Early Chicago and the Man Mr. Terry Kath!!!!!
Thank you. It doesn't get better than this. ❤❤❤
Always happy to see this again
Yea, Ive already listened to this 3 times already. I'm probably gonna do a 70s Chicago stream soon.
Then definitely add 25 or 6 to 4 Tanglewood live. Perhaps one of the best guitar solos ever.
Peter Cetera with long hair. Awesome!
I absolutely love this performance
This was one of greatest bands of all time!🍻
I saw them in concert in the 70s. They are incredible! RIP TERRY KATH. Check out "Colour my World." It's a beautiful song.
Any Terry Kath live was amazing.
Gotta have more cow bell lol
I remember these songs like it was yesterday. Damn it sux to be old. I would injure myself if I danced like we used to back then.
This is when they were great.
Yep and Danny was my musical hero... then they fired him.

Loved the video, loved your cat.
You've just got to do 25 or 6 to 4 from same concert. Thanks! Loved your reaction.
“Oh Thank You, Great Spirt” - Terry Kath’s love letter to Jimi Hendrix. Last Hard Rock Chicago ever recorded.
I agree but do Check out Takin it on uptown on Chicago 11. Pretty rockin kath tune 👍🏼
@@kad285 Uptown IS a great tune. But I think it’s closer to Funk and R and B Rock than Hard Rock.
@@CrustyRetiredMarine Yes very funky...but what a blistering outro guitar solo from Kath :-)

EARLY 'CHICAGO' = BEST 'CHICAGO'! :)
Even though they became known for their ensemble playing, Terry Kath was a beast on the guitar.
What is remarkable about this era is that their bass player was Peter Cetra was also used as a lead singer.
terry kath was a force!
Terry reminded me of Hendrix,,,voice and style of play.
The founder of Chicago was the sax player Walt Parazaider. Sadly, he’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
man, thats messed up.

Terry Kath - the GOAT!!!
Quite nasty, aint it T? Love this performance ☘️
This is one of the few songs that is a cover. Steven Winwood with the Spencer David Group wrote this
No LEDS back then, those stage lights are HOT.
It's rare to see a fat drummer.. they work their asses off! Great cut man thanks so much .. the whole tangle wood recording is amazing. Keep it going
There were 2 distinct phases to Chicago. It was split by the untimely death of Terry Kath.
You should do Make Me Smile from the same Tanglewood session
You should do a live stream of the full concert.
Sounded Santana-ish with all the percussions
Terry Kath one of the GOATS.
Watch the whole concert. It is on RUclips.

Bad ass!
1970 ... the drummer is probably tripping his teeth off 😂
Please do Possession by Sarah Mclaughlin best quality is live afterglow concert, I think you will like it
No band's today. Hopefully real raw talent will come back 😂❤
Only 3 guitarist I call greatest Jimmy,Terry, and Stevie you can arrange the chairs the way you want 😉
25 or 6 to 4, same concert
Find an artist or group from today that you can compare to this.
Plenty of individual artists come to mind with comparable talent from instrument to instrument.
But, not too many as a collective band.
Most new artist I find are like a one man band. I hear labels aren't signing actual bands anymore.
Good luck ! 😂
You know we had the best era. 1973 HS grad here.
None.

A Gen Z-er

Need more cowbell!
Early Chicago was the Best. Terry Kath was one of the best guitarists Ever.
Ya gotta remember air conditioning wasn't really a thing in the 70's, hence we sweated .
Terry, why? Great performer with Neil and Zak😮
Radio version was shorter. Concert versions were longer
Same concert, "25 or 6 to 4" Must see
I'm assuming by now you're familiar with the term Blue Eyed Soul. ✌️😁
A cover that blew the doors off of the original! No shame there.
Hey T, did you see my reaction request for June?
Yup, I'm planning to do a stream on it so ill hit you back with a time an date on patreon if thats cool.
