After a day hike gone bad, I always carry a little Ziploc bag with small compass, emergency blanket, whistle, matches and signal mirror. I have my wife carry one too. Haven't had to use it, but makes me feel a little more prepared.
Totally agree on this. Essential hiking emergency gear. I used to be a mountain walking leader and asked every participant on my tours to carry one. We would also carry two person bivouac sacks for emergency overnighting in bad weather or snow. Regarding the bandeau, in Europe Buff is a major brand of these bandeaus. I always carry a few with me, because they are great to keep body parts out of the wind or absorbing sweat, but also as emergency gear for holding pads on your head with head wound or together with some sticks help with a broken arm or leg.
@@NicoVeenkamp What a great idea. Reminds me of a story my brother told me once. He manufacturers a few camping products, one is a cot. It was used on Mt. Everest to rescue a climber. Humans are quite resourceful. We also have the Buff brand but I find them a little tight for my big head.
Love the map folding directions! I needed that! I also take a small journal and maybe a small camera. (although now the phones on cameras are so good you don’t need the camera!)
Great video! Same age group here. Love Osprey backpacks- the Daylite. I usually carry about the same things, except I’ll carry a flashlight and whistle
Beautiful music and scenery toward the end of your video. Also, interesting how much trash is out there. It is sad that we don’t take better care of our environment.
There is so much trash, especially in the summer from the beach goers. I have collected buckets full of beach toys that I keep around for my grand kids when they visit. I had to stop collecting it. There are beach cleanup days but there is no end to trash, unfortunately.
From She to Me , we have similar problems on our beaches here on Marco Island. About once a month we have a beach clean up and as you mentioned there is always things to clean up. Actually it’s an opportunity to meet the other volunteers, so it’s rather enjoyable. I also volunteer for our local burrowing owl conservation program. Another wonderful opportunity to be in nature, enjoying the comradely of friends who share your love of animals. Another group I am checking into, is the sea turtle protection program we have here on Marco Island. These rather large turtles use the beach here to lay their eggs. As a volunteer you monitor the nest, count the eggs, hatchlings and how many have a successful crawl and make it to the sea. I’m glad I’m retired. Take care. Don
@@doncates2954 That's wonderful. Lots of good people doing great work that is rarely acknowledged. One of the ladies I see at the beach every time I'm down there collects recyclables and then donates the proceeds to one of the marine organizations out here. I work on local water issues with another group. And our son works for the USFS. Nature keeps me healthy and sane.
Oh fine thing I just bought and use the lambs fleece topper. So I cannot wait to see you new bedding fix. I can always move the fleece to our bedroom I think it will work great on our bed. We are off to Ventucopa for a wine dinner party one night in our RV.
Debbier: I have a 2016 Sprinter, and I use a Code Reader I bought at Harbor Freight Tools. It has the brand name of "Zurich" and is model number ZR 13. I use it to reset the seat belt codes, the oil change reminder as well as reading current data. It is on sale until 12/9/18 for $179.99 and is well worth it in my opinion Thank you for your very Informative videos
I don't hike but I'd like to. I have two small older dogs so we just walk. I do take things for them and a water bottle in a bag or pockets but never thought of a backpack. I will get one soon. Beautiful video and music for your "trash talk". I have a mesh bag that I could take to pick up trash. Beautiful beach. Is it public? Than you.
Thanks. It's made by Kuehl and is called the Rekon Vest. It is still available in Khaki and the color I bought which is Raven. Raven is a bit challenging to match with other clothes because it is neither black nor navy. But I do like it.
Thank you for your video. Good ideas. And thank you for the thoughtful video at the end. I am so sad we are ruining our world. I want to get out there and see it all before it disappears.
@@FromShetoMe bummer. I just got my Osprey Raven 14 women's pack from Osprey clearance for $56.00 for mountain biking. It's great! But, It did not come with the connector...so I installed it.
It just depends. Generally not in the Sierra Nevada Mountains unless we are with our grandkids. But always in parks with Grizzlies like Glacier, Yellowstone, Canada or Alaska. We also carry an emergency transponder like the Garmin Mini.
I'm not a hiker, but I am a lover of beautiful sunsets, THANK YOU FOR SHARING..and thank you for picking up the trash..

Gorgeous sunset!
Big thumbs up on the Ospreys daypack. I love mine.
Interesting. I didn't know you could get them in Europe.

Nice video

I think I had 3 or 4 Osprey bags before I realized they had a built in whistle in the sternum strap.
A young expert survivalist very good to know tips, thank you. Safe travels to you: )

Sagebrush Annie's on hwy 33 about 60 miles from Ventura the middle of nowhere.
Great info. Thx for sharing... 😍

Thanks. That sounds like quite a professional model. I will look it up.
Always be prepared 👍🏻 or suffer the consequences, god forbid.
Osprey make great daysacks along with Karrimor SF,

I have considered an Osprey Daypack and how many liters is the bag?
I don’t know and they don’t make this model any longer but they have tons of similar ones on their website.
Happy Holidays
hi...did your bladder already come with the quick connect hose...or purchase it separately and add it on?
Came with it.

I answered too quickly. My pack is pretty old and it was my replacement bladder that came with the quick connect feature.
Do you hike with bear spray? Thx for sharing the trash clip.
