      @@KP-by4euThere’s only reverb on the mic. He creating the ‘flange’ effect himself. There no one mixing the mic as he goes along that would be way too complicated. Winslow is that good to create effect that seem impossible.

    He did the drums, and I thought, yeah, impressive.
    He did Plant's voice, and sounded like a distant recording, and I thought, The man has clear skills.
    He did the electronic guitar, complete with feedback, and I lost my damned mind.

      +disgraceland uk Distortion is something that doesn't occure in naturaly produced signals. That would simply be against basic laws of physic.... It doesn't matter how many people are wrong like you, that doesn't change the fact that it cannot be done without mic and distortion pedal.
      Btw. you can't even make a guitar that would have the sound of electric one build in.
      He uses guitar effect in every single of his performances, you can clearly see even here on youtube.
      But even that said, it IS incredibly HARD to do, because you have to know which sound on input makes what noise on the output, so I think he spend a huge time just trying out those things. And he has incredible musical memory and talent.

    I watched Police Academy when I was a kid and hands down my favorite part of the movies was Michael Winslows sound effects. I didn’t know why he just disappeared from acting, but when I heard his wife had passed and he did it so he could be there to raise his kids. That is just admirable. I hope he continues to have a great career at whatever pace he wants.

      So weird! I guess because you're in Europe. Only reason I say that your comment in weird because everyone I know or have met (family, friends, random music conversations with older people (I'm 53)) have seen Jimi Hendrix once or thrice but never saw Led Zeppelin.     Wow! The way he mimicked every single aspect of a distored guitar is just mind blowing. Even the feedback at the end. Hes such a pure artist and a impressive performer. What he can do with just his voice hasnt been surpassed by anyone. Give him a mic and its game over like you dont even have a controller. I can watch him do the robot scene in P.A 2, in the wharehouse fight bit. Its the best part imo.

    Michael Winslow made the acoustic guitar almost irrelevant. Amazing feedback, vocals, distortion, reverb, and delay effects. All coming from his vocal cords. What a talent!

    He's been using pedals and amps for years for his vocal effects. I just saw an early 80s clip of him doing Jimi Hendrix. It was jaw dropping amazing.

    Christmas Day 2024. I have seen this before but I came back here after hearing the backstory. Prince was snubbed in the 100 greatest list. Then he was pushed out of the solos throughout the song by that other cat - who really played those solos like he owned them. Then Prince steps out of the shadows and lays down a master class solo on a stage packed with legends… and blew them all away. Epic. RIP.

    The guitarist has been practicing in the backroom playing it in the key of G and Mike says live let's do it in E. Guitarist handles it like a champ.

      Tbf - It is easier to play in E, like the original. Most guitarists learn the original as a rite of passage and it would require very little adjustment to revert. Playing it in G, however, if you only know the original - much harder, if only because of the missing open string.

      I don't know how to play music, other than hitting play, or telling Google to play something, but, when I was a kid, and I would see some old men fixing to have a "jam session", as they called it, one of them would say something about playing it in the key of G. That was always funny, to me.

    I saw Robert Plant perform this song live, whilst opening up for The Who 20?! years ago, and I’m here to tell y’all, this is as close to the original as I’ve ever heard.
