I'm just now finding out about this band, and I love how the vocalist can go from some really poppy sounding cleans to some insanely aggressive screams. The overall style of this band varies and it's goddamn impressive as fuck. Props
i literally found out about these guys 3 weeks ago when they popped up on my meshuggah pandora channel and 10 minutes later bought the album. i agree with you 100%. they have some immense talent!
I think it was mainly because of his vocals on P1. Compare his singing there to P2 or really anything they put out after P1. I don't think he was bad, but he was seen as sort of whiny. He went from being like a 6 to a 10 after that though, and now he's one of the best, if not THE best.
I come back to this cover a lot. Quite literally the only Slipknot cover I've heard that really captures the chaos and energy of the original. My god I bet Slipknot are so fucking proud of Periphery for this.
Spencer is like the Freddie Mercury of djent man, I'd never expect him to come close to a Corey Taylor type growl...and he still hits all those high notes in Periphery live! Badass.
This is one of those rare events where the RUclips comments are actually impressive. So many people came into this video thinking, "They're gonna blow this one" and left with their minds blown. Myself included. Incredible range this band has.
Man, I could imagine it being like a blend of something along the lines of sticking the Juggernauts and Iowa in a blender and letting it sit for like 30 minutes.
+Liam “Lem” B. Actually, if there's at least some hate, then you're probably doing something right... At least, that's my logic. lol It was an awesome cover, though.
to be more specific, the fire and brimstone "you're all going to hell" Christians, there are different levels of how deep you get into a religion. not just "Christian", that is a broad label to slap on a group of vastly different people, i know many Christians and all do not believe in the same ideals, i apologize for being so broad but you cannot deny that many hardcore Christians would not find this music appealing
Periphery are working in PIII right now as we speak. Spencer said on Twitter the vocals for PIII are going to be the most brutal he has ever layed down.
+Oliver-Vic Carquinn As a fan of BMTH of 8 years now, having seen them 7 times live, 8 this year? Their cover of Eyeless was terrible and is the only song on Count Your Blessings I can't stand, even though I'm also a massive SlipKnoT fan. Just my opinion though, SlipKnoT aren't easy to cover and cover well.
Architects cover had nice instrumental, but hell, why Sam(theirs vocalist) didn't tried to re-record his vocals? He could scream sooo much better than that
I just discovered this band on FRIDAY and have not stopped listening to them ever since. I just stumbled upon this cover and as a huge maggot I FUCKING APPROVE.
This is incredible, absolutely everyone is up to standard, Matt keeping up with some of Joey's crazier fills and Spencer bossing out the aggressive semi-tuned shout-growl that Corey does so well! My favourite band once again showing their incredible versatility!
His voice is sick!! There aren't many artists that have both spectums of the scale and can hit them clean and brutal the way Spencer does consistently! Ridiculous!!
Daymn, Sp0nce can sound exactly like Corey, impressive to sound so similar, it's not easy to sound the exact same way as another vocalist. As a former vocalist, I know this.
Not as bad as everyone thinks? They're amazing, arguably one of the greatest metal bands there is. They even managed to get it on to mainstream, something that no other bands like them had managed to do at the time. They actually got mainstream fans to like their music. That's how influential they were.
but then there wouldn't be a periphery. I love the way periphery sounds. they're super talented and then being able to pull this cover off shows how talented they really are. they have their own style for a reason, because nobody else sounds like them or can do what they do. why would you want a band to sound like another? variety is a wonderful thing
Yes he can, just check the last Prepare for hell tour live videos or "knotfest 2014 night 2" and tell me if Corey isn't the greatest metal vocal of live stadiums bands :)
damn close lol, shit, corey needed to stop smoking years ago... acctually i think spencers growl sounds kinda awkward at times, like he dont really push the growl over the edge, this is the complete oposite o that, to bad IMO that he dont sound more like this, not all the way perhaps but this aswell or something iduno
Keep in mind that Corey has been doing this shit for a long time with lots of Live performances and little resting/ recovery days for his voice. So that he'll never sound the same as in the start makes perfect sense to me. A lot of people were even surprised he is still able to do it because they thought he would fuck up his vocal chords real quick with the vocals he was doing (referring to the Self-Titled Album)
If this is Periphery singing this song...then he is singing in the wrong Genre. He needs to write and play more music just like this. Probably the best cover I have ever heard.
i know this comment is 10 years old but listen to "the walk" and "blood eagle" by periphery and it'll change your mind (if it hasn't changed in 10 years)
say what you will about slipknot and how original they all, but i think we could all agree if slipknot songs were mixed like this theyd sound so much more powerful
Yep, you're right on. I remember I used to be a huge Slipknot fan and Corey said once that 555 was supposed to be the record labels who wanted them to censor their lyrics (I think) and 666 represents the band, of course. Also this cover is practically flawless! Sponce really sounds a lot like Corey Taylor.
+EckertHD i honestly think the song was mixed much better than the original.... and the guitar tone is a little better.... but no one will ever scream better than corey X)
I swear I downloaded the discography of all periphery, and this was the last song on the album never realized until now it was a cover! lol they did a awesome job sounding just like slipknot. haha
same. found it randomly on the album periphery 2 and i was like: why the fuck is this song on this album. slipknot made me listen to metal and this is the fusion of my 2 most heard bands
+Eirik Bevektg Nah I can't say that. Considering it sounds the same, the only real difference is the vocals, and I'd take Corey's over most.. So for the most part this is an absolutely great cover, prob best I've heard of a Slipknot song.
Excellentissime !
Wasn't feeling their One cover.. But this is pretty killer. This guy should stick to experimental and heavy vocals because he kills on this. They didn't really try to make it their own, but that isn't always a bad thing. Very good.
Mike TC I was saying it sounds exactly like Slipknot. It's a really good cover but not original enough for me; they litteraly played Slipknot's version hahah
just getting into this band and slipknot was the first metal band i listened too, it's what got me into metal, and i find this to be fucking awesome as dicks.
I bought Iowa as soon as it was released, and I was 20 at the time. You don't have to be 12 years old to like slipknot... And periphery is a phenomenal band... I saw them within protest... it was super swick.. :)
This shit is fucking awesome. THIS is how a Slipknot cover should sound. Fuck Bring Me the Horizon, they covered Eyeless and butchered it. This band knows what's up.

Oh my god XD
If I'm 666 then you're 999
Haha, you are a genius 😂

actually it is sick not six :)
Dat guitar tone
Dat drum sound
Dem vocals
Absolutely ferocious.
Papa Franku handles firearms better than anyone.
+am you just got pranked
the bass sound?
Bass is pretty important too..
Right
Vocals? Nah and meh.
This is why Periphery has been my favorite for years! Their complexity, versatility and variance in music is great
He has an insane vocal range! Despite this, people diss him for his vocals for some reason.
Cause they can't handle the sponce
I think it was mainly because of his vocals on P1. Compare his singing there to P2 or really anything they put out after P1. I don't think he was bad, but he was seen as sort of whiny. He went from being like a 6 to a 10 after that though, and now he's one of the best, if not THE best.
The fuck, i've been a slipknot and periphery fan for years and had no idea this shit existed!!!!!
Ikr! This is so great!
Milk0matic pervy sage *claps*
Milk0matic same thing for me man :O
Milk0matic Exactly
your profile pic matches this comment perfectly. XD
How did they nail the guitar tone so perfectly?? It’s amazing
not perfect at all.
Well someone was bound to have an issue with it even if it’s 5 years after I made the comment lol
sounds better than the original honestly, both have that grit and aggression but you can tell periphery's tone is With The Times in a sense lol
Best slipknot cover that anyone has put out, respect.
absolutely! shows respect to the material. BMTH did one of eyeless that just sucks
+Mr. Cam Brady A band called Bleed From Within released a cover of People=Shit if you wanna check that out. Insanely good cover in my opinion.
Mr. Cam Brady so this is what pro musician.
A local band from my hometown called Vices to Veils did a cover of "Wait And Bleed" and it's sooooooo damn good.

this is the only cover I will listen too of SlipKnoT I cant help it either
Bring me the Horizon actually did a sweet cover of Eyeless back in 07
James Amato Nah it's dire.
James Amato You spelled "shit" wrong.
check out the band spite they did a dope cover of this song.
"and Matt Hellporn on drums"
AHAHAHA HOLY FUCKING SHIT THANK YOU

Actually pretty sure Misha did drums on this track

With crap speakers, they sounded on the par
Spencer is like the Freddie Mercury of djent man, I'd never expect him to come close to a Corey Taylor type growl...and he still hits all those high notes in Periphery live! Badass.
Don't normally like Periphery, but this cover was actually nothing less than perfect execution
This is one of those rare events where the RUclips comments are actually impressive. So many people came into this video thinking, "They're gonna blow this one" and left with their minds blown. Myself included. Incredible range this band has.
Imagine if Spencer and Corey Taylor combined did the most angriest song they've ever done together. THAT. would be AWESOME!
Man, I could imagine it being like a blend of something along the lines of sticking the Juggernauts and Iowa in a blender and letting it sit for like 30 minutes.
I can't see any hate comments, so it must be a good cover
+Liam “Lem” B. Actually, if there's at least some hate, then you're probably doing something right... At least, that's my logic. lol It was an awesome cover, though.

all of the churches that i go to have condemned this type of music and all who listen to it, it's sad really
I wish Spencer screamed like this on periphery material.
Feed the ground from clear EP
Periphery are working in PIII right now as we speak. Spencer said on Twitter the vocals for PIII are going to be the most brutal he has ever layed down.
+Zach Belcher This isn't Spencer is it?
+meth0d it is.
Torque Bow Wow, he sounds so different.
I'm still torn between Slipknot's version, or this version... Slipknot's performance in London 2002 though... Can't beat that!
WhaddupImJohn that version is just indomitable
tattered and torn
damn, the best cover I've heard of them.
This is the only Slipknot cover I actually like. Good job Periphery!

True Corey Taylor style.

Sounds great, a lot of high energy Dad
totally agree although I'm pretty sure these drums were programmed
Programmed or triggered? Matt seems to me like the kind of guy to use electronics of that kind
Jon Barnes-Nunn thinkin programmed since they sound just like Misha's Superior samples, but I could be wrong I'm not sure
Fair enough, I'm certainly not an expert on electronic drumming :P
"Matt Hellporn" in descripcion lol
Very powerful cover!
I aprove of this as a SlipKnot fan.
His voice is sick!! There aren't many artists that have both spectums of the scale and can hit them clean and brutal the way Spencer does consistently! Ridiculous!!
in many parts he sounds like corey, omg, he so talent

2024 and still the best slipknot cover by a band!
This reminds me how awesome Iowa is and was when it came out. Can't believe it's been almost 11 years since it was released.
I can't believe it's been 9 years since you posted this comment
Not a fan of Periphery but this is a damn good cover.
This is an absolutely amazing cover. Loved it.
Not a big Periphery fan but I have to give credit where it is due, the vocals are near perfect.
The vocals in the chorus are equally as ferocious as the record, hope to hear more of this vicious aggression of Periphery II
that guitar tone :O
Excellentissime ! Un vrai cover digne de Periphery ! Je n'irai pas à dire que ça rend encore mieux que sur l'original (Je suis un vieux fan de Slipknot), mais je dirai que Periphery remet la chanson au goût du jour, lui redonne une petite jeunesse !

Oh okay. Probably wasn't much challenge for misha either. From what I've heard he's a solid drummer
+Tom Sawyer that's not at all true. Read the description
+RoyaltonDrummer922 the description Is wrong. Ask misha he'll tell you the same
the vocals are awsome and the drums too
He sounds similar to Corey
ikr

The lyrics of my teenage years.... Oh my. Hearing these guys cover this is amazing.
Matt Halpern did an amazing job!
This isn't him playing. It's programmed drums just like the other bonus track on p2 (far out)
Now this is a band that understands how to keep the spirit of the original in their cover. I just hope their original material is this good.
Literally the only good Slipknot cover to exist, and probably the only good Slipknot cover to ever exist.
