I'm now retired from work. Most of the last seven years were in the car business. Not selling but an assistant to my sales manager. The car business gets on your blood and I learned my way around the business quite well and was able to take on responsibilities beyond the job I was initially hired to do. Most car dealerships that I worked for were pretty laid back which I enjoyed. Doing some much walking on asphalt and concrete car lots finally took its role on my 56 body and I was forced to retire. I feel sorry for the dealerships and sales people affected by low inventories. I've been around car sales people to understand the importance of the number of units sold per month. You seem to have the sales experience and know how to make a challenging situation work for. You can do well selling with good quality used inventory and CPO cars are a much easier sell than just average used cars. I drive a used Toyota Corolla that was sold from the Certified Pre-Owned car.
In my opinion, the last generation Impalas were the nicest looking in its modern history. That body design with its sharper creased edges really looked smart. GM should have never stopped production of that car.
I rented a few of them. I really liked the car. It's a shame that Chevy stopped making them.
Another excellent video Dave! I graduated in 97 as well. I had a 76 Olds Cutlass Supreme with the Landau roof and "Opera" Windows in the back. Two-door, total boat, but it ran well and was a tank. Used to deliver food as a side job amongst my many other jobs while in high school. I had the cd book as well, but in that car, there was no CD player...I had a Discman with the cassette adapter hahahahaha. Excellent story down memory lane for me. Keep up the great content!
Yup, lol I remember the disc man with adapter.. My cousin had a 87 Cutlass and he made a little cardboard suspension system for the disc man so it would skip..lol. He put it on one of those plastic cup holder compartments that went on the hump in the front
Let's see more of the receptionist😉
Another excellent and consumer product informative video. Thank you Dave!
I love watching your videos, keep up the great work. You remind me so much of the car salesman i wanted to be in the 90's. I left the active duty Air Force and entered car sales in 96. I sold cars for 2 years but I was tired of being lied to by the customers and limited help from management and I decited to go back into the Air Force and the rest is history. 34 Years in and I will retire soon. Keep up the great work and being honest to you customers and you will go a long way...
Thanks for watching Jeff!! and THANK YOU for your service to our great nation🇺🇸
I bought my 2022 Bolt at the end of June and was disappointed when the recall was expanded. I'm in a Bolt owners group on the Book of Face and the recall is pretty much all anyone will talk about. Thank you for providing some perspective and positive thoughts. I don't want to give up on my Bolt; to me it's the best bang for the buck in an EV right now.
I’m glad you actually told the Cougar story. I thought you were trying to be another Scotty with the clickbait…
Thanks for watching!
Dave, you are great! I enjoy buying new vehicles and do so every 3-4 years. I stumbled upon you videos recently and must tell you what it has done for me. I work in healthcare, and to say work is stressful is an understatement. Your videos provide me with a much needed reprieve from the daily stressors. You even have me considering a career change into the car business. After over 20 years in healthcare, it’s time for something I enjoy. Your content is meaningful way past just being informative about Chevrolet. Thank you sir!
Thanks Jason! Happy to hear you are enjoying my content.. We have a salesman that started a few years ago.. he too spent the better part of his career in the healthcare field and made an easy transition into sales. He is doing very well.
Not many salespersons today give you a pressure free experience.
My brother had a Mercury Cougar also. His only problem involved the tires. Back in the day, there was a bad lot of Firestone radial tires that would de-laminate. And that's what happened to one of his tires as he was driving down the road.
Oh the times of the sales brochure. I remember walking into the dealerships. Just for those books. It was a good memory piece too when buying a vehicle.
I have never clicked on a video so fast before in my life
Dave, I found your channel a little over a year ago when I bought my first brand new vehicle. It was a 2020 Tacoma TRD, but the experience left me with an interest in how dealerships operate. I found your channel and from then to now, I have to say your videos have improved greatly. Your storylines just flow now and before I realize it, the video is over lol. You've restored my faith that not all dealerships are stealerships!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback
This was a great video because I think it showed your sales style. You presented a story, how good and bad things can happen to anyone, and how they can be managed. You explained the potential issues with the Bolt, showed the good and bad, and explained the information that led to your decision to sit tight, drive the car, and wait for the GM solution. It's all about risk and probability analysis - making informed decisions. I get the sense you take the same approach with your clients. Show them the good and bad of the product, and give them the information they need to make an informed decision. I live in NJ and have bought 2 Chevys in the past 4 years. I'll call you for my next one. Well done!
Dave, I am with you. I own a 2020 Bolt with over 23,000 trouble free miles on it. I no longer charge to 100% ( unless I am going on a long trip ). But i still garage the car at night - I have a 2 car detached garage.
I love the car, and it is fun to drive. If Chevy wants to eventually give me a new battery, I will not refuse them. But, they could save a lot of money by just examining the batteries, and only replacing those they find to be defective.
I am curious to see how they handle it.
I have a 2020 Bolt LT with 33333 miles and love it. I have always capped it at 90% unless I'm going on a long trip. I drive 50 miles to work and charge when I get there. Sad to hear about another Bolt fire today. My wife has a 2019 so we're looking forward to her getting a full new battery with more range.
That is an emergency, when a car is on fire btw. I've seen a couple burnt up Prius' over the years. Both happened from Piglets that had so much trash in the back seat, where the vents to cool down the hybrid battery were blocked.
As a 2020 Bolt owner I did not know that the recall had been extended to all model years. I need to check on this to see what is going on. Thanks for the great videos
Had a 98 Pathfinder that did the same thing, except it was inside by the dashboard. Ended up being a wire on the dome light and I just pulled the fuse and never had another issue.
I enjoyed hearing that story. I had a 92 cougar xr7 and to this day it is one of the cars I miss the most. I actually remember having that recall work done. I also lived in Bayonne for about 12 years and I know exactly where you pulled over. Great video as usual.
Small world
Fascinating story. As an aside, love the interior of the Camaro
Congrats on the sale of the Impala. That is a really sweet ride. I agree with others that it is by far the best looking of their run.
Thanks 👍
As always another awesome video Dave B I was in the class of 1996 of Everett High in Everett MA and my first car was a 1992 Chevrolet Corsica never had a fire but got it in a big flood puddle and had no brakes while on a highway come to find out the drums in the back were filled with water
I love my DaveBSellsChevy tshirt! Its super quality and I even got a compliment on it from a batista in a coffee shop! 😁👍
I love watching your videos me and my father own are own used car dealership. And sometimes I can relate to these videos. Car business is a hit and miss sometimes it’s good some days are very slow.
The Impala listed for $40k in 2018...what did they pay for it in 2021...i will guess $28K
Listed for $40K, purchased probably close to $35K
Dave as always, your videos are fantastic! Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
I graduated in 97 too. My first car was given to me that year. A 1989 Chevy Cavalier.
We had a 16 car Thursday, 6 car Friday, 17 car Saturday, 12 car Sunday and a 9 car Monday. We have had less than 20 new on the ground, but have been consistent with 140-150 used. Too bad your store doesn't have a buying program for you guys.
That Impala was sweet. Someone got a good car like new for a lot less than new.
Nice video content 👌
Love you brother.
Great video, Dave!
👍
90s Ford product catches fire, my first impression was to wonder if it was the cruise control. They recalled over 17 million cars for risk of fire due to defective cruise control disconnect switches.
Love your videos! How do you find an image of your original window sticker?
Another great video, Dave!
Glad you enjoyed it
I was driving my '65 Catalina sometime in the mid 70's when heavy white smoke started coming out all over the dash. I was stopped at at an intersection and all of us had to abandon the cabin right there. It was my first car, just like Dave's. It must be a thing.
Everything is great in your video. Thank you for explaining more about the Chevy bolt. It is good to see you are driving your bolt.
Tnanks
@@DaveBsellsChevy please keep uploading your great videos. Looking forward to seeing your next video ideas.
Hey that’s awesome that you were able to spend Labor Day off. My dealership also let us off and it was nice to be able to spend it with family.
Right on!
I had an 85 Cougar XR-7 with a 2.3 turbo. It was a 5 speed and fun to drive. It smoked and used about a quart of oil every fill up.
I hope you get some inventory soon. It makes for very long days at work when there isn't much to do, and sales people usually have long working hours to begin with.
luckily we have shorter hours since the pandemic so it helps a bit.
Great video as always Dave! I just took delivery of a 2021 Camaro 2SS 1LE with the Manual Tremec! It’s in the Riverside Blue color! Soooo stoked about it! You just motivate me and I wanted to tell you that. Keep up the good work as always my friend!
Awesome!! Congrats on your new Camaro SS!!
@@DaveBsellsChevy Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!! Loving every second of it. Truly a special car. In 2021 they couldn't sell these in CA because of some sort of emissions issue from the brake calibers, so actually having a 2021 in this state is sort of a niche thing. Loving it man! Keep up your good work as always sir!
Love your video
I feel the same about my Chevy bolt 2022
What do you think will happen next?
I’m hoping for the updated battery U.
not sure.. maybe a battery inspection. maybe a full replacement. maybe some sort of credit due to the limited range as well??
Nice to see the Impala. What a beautiful car
Love my bolt and I continue to charge and use as normal. I’ve always parked outside so that didn’t matter. It’s a 2017 and I’ve not heard of any of the 10 fires being a 2017.
High school class of 2000 here. CD case would've been number 1 priority for me also. CaseLogic binder style.
yup... lol!
Caselogic!! Mine lived in my visor.
Dave I had the first year '89 Cougar XR7 with the supercharged engine. Loved that car.
I wish mine was the super charged or the V8...I had the V6 with the steel block and aluminum heads that would blow through head gaskets every winter in the cold weather
I have a '22 Bolt I bought back in early July; not worried at all.
Love the longer videos.
You're good at this. Impressed by how you tied all that together. 👏
Thanks 👍
Cool video thx mr Dave B
Thats wild ! My first car a 1970 buick electra 225 ruptured a fuel line and caught fire on Kennedy ave in east chicago Indiana ! but the ac hose burst and put the fire out ! crazy
Hey Dave just picked up a 2018 volt and love it so far! I was just wondering your thoughts on how you and your wife liked them, as well as was there some disappointment when Chevrolet discontinued them? Love your content!
Hey Michael... we love the Volt.. It is our 2nd one. If they still built it I'd probably get a third one oneday!
Same thing happened to my neighbors they had a car fire in the garage it took the house and both the kids sadly. They retired early but broken hearted forever. Machines aren't perfect. its always a good idea to practice caution. I have a three car garage but the cars stay outside. lol
I admit I have an electronic phobia. The more factory electronics the truck has the less I want it. I was hesitant about upgrading my 2005 silverado to a 2015 silverado for years. I love my 15 silverado and it will probably be the last "modern " truck I'll ever buy.
I have a 2018 Impala. Three years as of the 8th. Great car. No problems with it. I think it is sad that GM stopped making them.
“Pressure free car buying experience “. I can vouch for that.
Right on!
That’s an awesome story Dave. My first car was an 88 Thunderbird. It was also 4 years old when I bought it in my last year of high school. It never caught fire though
The thunderbirds and cougars were pretty popular back then. Cool cars!
I agree with you 💯. Love our bolt.
Great story! Loved the video as always.
Thanks 👍
Hi Dave! I see the Camaro is still on the lot. Love that color on it! (my 2019 is white) I'm curious prior to predicament we find ourselves in currently, which engine (I4, V6, V8) did you personally sell the most of or customers came into the dealership interested in?
I4 just purely by volume imo
oh man walk down memory lane with the cd case, My first car was a 1988 chev Corsica had just under 43000m on it in 2004.
Small world. Grew up in Bayonne too.. 48th and Ave B.
Nice!
Could you tell me why it’s taking two months for my Chevrolet dealer to repair my 2016 Malibu LT? It was recalled for faulty pistons.
I think it would be cool to see a video on your favorite Chevy's even in your lifetime. I still wish Chevy made the HHR & Monte Carlo.
When are you going to talk about the 2022 Chevy Silverado’s?
i got my 2017 bolt LT last spring with 30k, it now has 33k. I'm not too worried about the fire danger. I am limiting 90% / 70 miles... and just in case i wont charge it over night (and when i do charge it back up to 90%, i wont leave it in the garage that night).I'll wait as long as it takes for the battery replacement / 8 year battery warranty restart. By far the best city commuter car i've ever driven. i drive about 20 miles per day M-F, and i only charge it once every 1.5 - 2 weeks. This car has saved me so much money its not even funny. 💪
As a consumer it’s hard right now. My Tundra I bought 1 year old with 5K. It’s now 5 years old with 80K and I can sell it for close to what I paid for it. I would be happy to do this but if I find a new Tundra it’s damn sure going to be above MSRP. I will not pay above sticker.
Keep your car stop trying to be greedy
@@timtresch4848 not being greedy. I usually don’t keep my cars after the factory extended warranty is up. I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic, for me to work on vehicles is like asking a letter carrier to go for a walk after work. Not sure where you see greedy in my post. The market has gone up for used vehicles and in my area Tundras are expensive but selling.
What did you expect??? It's a Chevy?!?!?! 😂
You should do a video about the new GM trucks and all the lifter problems.
Hey Dave in your honest opinion is it currently a really bad time to try to get into car sales because of the shortages? I know it seems like an obvious answer but I also wonder if in the near future Car sales will hit insane numbers after finally having some supply to sell to an outrageous year and a half long demand. Is that even likely or am I a dummy? Would it be wise to try to get in now and get some experience etc before this big wave? Or are most dealerships not even hiring in this current situation? Sorry for the loaded question and thanks for your time.
It's pretty easy to sell a vehicle right now if you have it in stock. People realize supplies are low and understand why pricing is firm. It takes out the negotiating part of the job, so for someone new it would be a good time to get in. It may be hard to find a store hiring though. I guess it all depends on the dealership and how they are doing with inventory.
I have seen a Ford tractor catch fire on our farm from a wiring issue.
Were you able to do a drone shot of the lot with the lack of cars? Forgot which video you mention that idea in.
Nice video Dave, having a purchase 2019 Bolt and a lease 2020 Bolt, neither of which was subject to the original recall, I feel your concern and those of many thousands of other such people. And, the headline really grabbed my attention. I wish you and your family and any of your customers who purchased or leased Bolts from the dealership the best of luck. I called and spoke with one of the book concierge people this afternoon about the precautionary instructions the Chevy was sending out, which I thought were somewhat confusing. Limiting the top end of charge to 90% or hilltop reserve is pretty straightforward. I don't know why they went with an estimated range instead of a percentage for the bottom in though. A percentage would make more sense since 70 miles of range for one driver and one climate is going to be quite a bit different than for another. The instruction to take the car immediately after charging is the really odd part to me. It's sort of implies that there might be other times like when the car is in an in-between state of charge and hasn't needed to be charged in quite some time, why couldn't it be safely parked in one's garage. My wife and I, especially due to the pandemic, have found it is pretty easy to keep our car and that middle-range usually between 30 + 80%. We do some opportunity charging here and there at shopping centers and a couple hours here and there at home, avoiding the overnight charging scenario Chevy has warned us about. As we move more into fall and winter weather, it sure would be nice to have our cars back in our garage. Also unfortunately, we occasionally have folks who will go through your car if you happen to forget to lock it, (yes it has already happened since the recall stuff happened) which is not a problem when it's safe inside the garage.
Anyway the Chevy concierge could have been nicer and more patient with me and took in a few suggestions that I had that I think Chevy should consider to sort of make things up to people who stick with Chevy I ie some significant free charging credits on some of the major public charging Networks are free complete package with all the bells and whistles OnStar starting immediately and lasting for at least the duration of the battery warranty on the battery that will be replaced and really it ought to extend for the duration that the owner keeps the car, maybe transferable within the warranty period. I also shared that perhaps there could be some similar or additional incentives for owner/ lessees who would be willing to volunteer to go to the back of the line for the battery replacement because they can live within the safety constrains and let Chevy help the folks who need the replacement asap get theirs fixed earlier asap.
Anyway, keep up all your good work and best of luck to you with your Bolt and that future electric Silverado. It will be interesting to see if Chevy decides to compete head-on with the Ford F-150 Lightning in terms of relatively affordable work truck. It seemed to me that GM was hunting for the more high-dollar luxury trucks sold with high profit and low volume. I hope that Chevy does come out with a competitive and quality product along those lines. As always, time will tell. 🤞
Need arc fault breaker’s on cars now
Hey Dave- so was the Cougar a total loss due to the fire, or were you able to get it fixed? Just curious. Great video BTW. I really enjoy this channel. Very informative, you really know your stuff. 👍🏽
Thanks for watching 👍 I ended up selling the car to a buddy of mine for a few hundred. He replaced the wiring harness and altenator which fixed it. He drove the car for about a year before he sold it.
@@DaveBsellsChevy awesome! 👌🏾
I had a 1983? Ford Escort wagon with a bad oil leak. When it caught fire from oil dripping on the manifold I was disappointed that people ran up with fire extinguishers and put it out. I was thinking insurance was about to buy me a better car. Ironically my parents took it off my hands when I moved out and it was the one vehicle that kept them mobile when their main rides broke down!
I was hoping for a live reenactment. Course the dealer might have frowned upon that.
haha, I was thinking of getting some white smoke bombs to enhance the story..lol
Hi Dave, If the Ford F150 Lighting comes out before the Silverado EV, would you consider getting one of them?
No, I'm a Chevy guy and like driving what I sell.
Like the dealership mention in the WSJ
I find people who have true emergencies tend to call the non emergency number while those who don’t have true emergencies like to utilize 911. You are no exception Dave! A car fire is a 911 emergency lol. Hope you’ll discuss the new 2022 Silverado in an upcoming video 👍🏻
I guess I was just too relaxed in the situation..lol
Wow that's crazy on car fire I hope I never experienced that
Wow, glad to know it wasn't the Bolt. But overall I just have a question. If you had any Bolt's in stock would you be able to sell them? Just a note that more ICE cars catch fire them EV. Just up the good videos.
No, they are currently on "stop sale"
89 Crown Vic did the same, but it just smoldered and stopped, no FD needed.
My parents had a 89 Crown Vic... that's what I learned to drive on
This isn’t related to the current video, but I wanted your opinion. I’m looking to purchased a used Tahoe or Yukon. However, the ones I’m seeing in my price range have 150k+ miles on them. Should I stay away from from them or will they be reliable. I understand that it also depends on how the previous owner took care of the vehicle. I just don’t want to have to put in a lot of money to keep them running. Hope this makes sense.
If they were made before 2010, should be ok. Just get it inspected first. I would stay away from ones made after 2010
@@lesterparker1594 perfect thank for the reply
My girlfriends little sister has replaced her Equinox she lost in the NJ flood with another Equinox but with a 2022 Equinox RS in the new Seaglass blue metallic she loves it even tho she’s only owned it for nearly 48 hours
The Impala was the best of the full size cars. It's roomier than the Taurus, although it looks small and it's powerful V6 can compete against the V8s. One major thing I like is that it has the common dashboard for the time ,in all Chevy vehicles.
im still mad as hell for gm discontinuing the impala/lacrosse/ct6, i had a 16 impala ltz, traded it for a 17 lacrosse and im not giving it up
There are times i smell something odd like gas or a burning smell and in all cases its a car near me that probably has a bad catalytic converter.
Do you not lose your shirt when you buy a car, then immediately sell it back to the dealer? I would think the numbers would be terrible for the owner. Thoughts???
One of, if not the earliest of my childhood memories is of a trip that my parents and I took into the Canadian Rockies in the early 60’s. My Dad had a ‘55 Ford station wagon, our first family car. I was young enough to be sitting on my mothers lap. (No seat belt laws then.) I noticed smoke drifting out from under the dashboard, and pointed it out to my Mom. Mom told Dad. Immediately my Dad pulled over. He grabbed a container of ice tea, and popped open the hood. I have a mental photograph of the next scene. Through the gap between the open hood, and the cowl I could see some cables in flames, and Dad frantically dousing them with the iced tea. When he got back into the car he said to Mom, “Thank God he spotted that!”
We still got through that trip with that car.
Nice! You saved the day and the road trip
You will be better off with a cougar than that Chevy volt 😆
I miss my 1997 Thunderbird
It even had a V8 !
love your viedos
Are you going to stock any 3xl shirts?
Hey Kyle, Thanks for the interest. I only went to 2xl and will not be re-stocking these since it was just a limited run
@@DaveBsellsChevy when you hit 15,000 subscriptions and your channel grows, remember the folks that are from Texas and get more printed. Kind of like the cars you sell, not everyone is comfortable in a Volt.
Isn't GM going to replace all Bolts with new battery packs? 2017-2022.
Dave B, you seem to be the only one there selling cars.
Cars on fire “there’s no emergency”😂
I thought your volt caught on fire
I saw the sold sign on the impala before yhe buyers came to test drive it. So either you were confident on the sale or the timeline is off
