Mudguards. I ride a 90's rigid MTB, mainly when doing rough stuff, bothy's, off road camping trips and general off road xcountry stuff. For the last 30 years I have had mudguards on the machine as I find a wet arse covered in gravel to be a particularly unpleasant thing. If I ever were to get a gravel bike(unlikely), I think I would most likely fit it with m'gaurds, although this perhaps is a bit of a faux pas in relation to the current zeitgeist.

Beautiful footage as always. Definitely rewarding to still be out in the cooler months, case in point. Awesome. See you in Kelty Sunday for some windy but dry weather!
Btw, I just bought a gravel bike specific 'mud hugger' for the rear, they are great for keeping the back-end dry 😁

Ah. Our local tracks. As an update the metal gate just before the stone bridge at top of Camghouran is locked as the bridge itself is falling into the burn! Shame as to get through it’s a ‘throw the bike over’ job. The track down to the right back to the road after that stone bridge has a stunning waterfall towards the bottom in a gorge. I’ll apologise now for the muddy bits by the covered picnic tables at Carie. Our dog likes digging there… 🙄

    Absolutely stunning drone footage

The new sound of the glens: squealing disk brakes! Cracking colours. Like you I prefer too much saturation to too little. I'm highly tempted to get a drone now. Not so I can post videos (sitting at a PC editing photos is more than I want to do these days) but so I can get see the elevated view point. That will be as close as I can get to flying.

Not sure squealing brakes is all that peaceful though - I think I prefer nature! Also drones are great fun, I highly recommend one!

@@RustyRidesGravel not sure I think grunting stags are exactly what I'd call pleasant but I'm with you on preferring the sounds of nature!
What drone & camera are you using?

@@RustyRidesGravel that's why some of us prefer rim brakes, blissful silence 😎 (well, except some mild scraping noises as you wear another 0.5mm of aluminium off your rims 😭)

Thanks for this, when I was last at Glengoulande I was looking at this route but the 30mph wind and rain put me off so did a road route instead but I will do it when I’m next back looks just my type of route.
Called the Black Wood simply because it’s mostly pine and not planted by humans but natural.
Your hearing the deer call as it’s the rut just now.
Mudguards, hate them have a set for all my bikes but never use them apart from on my MTB which I used for work. I am however waiting on a set of Musguards to try, they are very easy to take off and on and you can roll them up to carry them. You can also get them in a variety of colours to match your bike and the come in two widths 30-45mm and 45-72mm. The only other guard I saw to fit my tyre width were Bluemels but really didn’t want the faff and was worried about being out and getting mud stuck under.

Great video Rusty, really enjoyed this one. Worth mentioning the excellent through route from Glen Lyon to the Black Woods via Lairig Ghallabaich, good long gravel climb from Innerwick, saw my first black grouse up there 😎
    I reckon stags 'roar' 😉

I nearly rode into Glen Lyon along that pass but decided to save it for a day where I can do it justice instead.
      Roaring stags 😄

Nice upload. Rannoch and surrounding area is such a special and stunning place. Plenty of great routes that lead from, to and through.
Mudguards and gravel: absolutely! A couple of options; if you have eyelets/fixtures then manufacturer specific or after market bolt on options are one route. Another option is SKS Speedrocker mudguards, easy to mount and remove using rubber attachments, plenty of tyre clearance and should fit most bikes.

Hi Rusty, my wife and I both use mudguards on our gravel bikes. I have a Trek Checkpoint and my wife rides the same bike as you. We both use 700 x 42 and we successfully rode the Badger divide earlier in the year with mudguards fitted. We have also been out in some very muddy singletrack and we haven’t had any issues

Recommend that MT500 jacket? Properly waterproof? Breathable? I've been "on-the-fence" about investing for a few years now, the price tag is very off-putting

Hey, so far it's been great although I can't comment on how it copes in a full on downpour, I haven't been in one with it yet. But it's super light and surprisingly breathable. Very happy so far with it.
