Tearing Down the Chimney DEMOLITION and Cleanup - Home Renovation

- Lately we've had some people question whether this home was even worth saving or would it have been better to just tear it all down and start over. The home is definitely solid and worth saving, but this chimney definitely has to go. Today we share the chimney demolition and cleanup, along with some exploration and farm work :)

Good move getting rid of the ugly chimney. Is really coming together. Congratulations!
You are such a wonderful example for everyone to see! One of the most hard workers out there. I know there are many people that are inspired to go do things they've put off for years. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait what else you're planning to work on. Thank you so very much, you're an inspiration to us all!
@@tylermoxley195 when they were hauling that hay out of the trailor I said the same thing to myself. I was like dang they work hard!
Free beard brush. Score!!
@@EeeDee1 needs one
Taddah! That was a precarious chimney and much safer down. Looks like it came down easier than you imagined it would.
You have come such a long way in three years guys. Debt free and in a happy place.
Not for nothing but if that comb you found is actual tortoise shell I imagine that would be worth something.
Doug, do either of you have a job, work from home?
Yep, we work from home :)
How sad that people would use their property for a dumpsite. Looks like you guys would need a dumpster just to pick up all of that mess. What a shame, because you are blessed to have such a beautiful place.
It's not too bad but we would like to clean up the plastic at least.
Or maybe at least you could bury the plastic items like they do at dump site facilities.
Hehe, those old things would be great for those restoration channels on here, like the medicine cabinet. If I had a channel like that I'd try to restore that cabinet. Looks like the old ones from like the 60's or so.
I would say incredible rather than weird :) your journey has been nothing less xoxoxo (ps .. 'that would be ideal' lol )
I’m so glad you guys made this move. You all just seem so much happier and lighter, laughing a lot more.
Would have been even funnier if chickens had popped into the house through the stove hole.
Hahahahaha the chickens stood there like shit were caught...run out the door hurry! Hahaha
Once again the beast mode couple tackles more goals✔✔😊.
Your chicks went exploring the first in the barn said.."Hey gang check this out!"😂
could you please bottle up some of your energy and sell me a few bottles lol
Get another dumpster and clean all the junk, including the chimney pieces. You will eventually want all of your property free of debris. What a beautiful property.
Dumpsters are not cheap, but you can take things on your own to a dump site. We have one not too far from where we live, and it is really nice to be able to load up our utility trailer and the back of our truck and take that stuff to the dumpster. :) Of course, once you get there, you have to unload it as well.
Scary how loose that chimney was..so glad you stopped the room reservation to take care of it..
Wow I seriously can't believe someone would be blasting you for dumping concrete blocks on your own land especially when there's already a dump site there ! All those blocks will come in handy for fill later on if needed and are posing no treat to anyone not to mention they moved them a ways away from their house so it wouldn't be an eye sore . Your doing a great job Doug and Ashley !
Thanks, we appreciate it :)
Why put it with the other crap on your property.. why not just get rid of all that in a big dumpster when you get rid of the siding?
We never expected this to be the big question, haha. We were told, "no concrete in the dumpster". But regardless, we don't see concrete as anything other than "fill" and wouldn't pay to throw it away.
The blocks that are intact would make a good raised bed for planting
I loved the special effects you put in when you knocked down the top of the chimney. 😎 Take care guys and keep up the good work! See yinz soon 🐔😁
I love how at the end you two look at each other and you can just see the love. Thanks for posting!
Your property is beautiful
I loved the slow motion part with the chimney. Great job
I know you said it’s commonly done but I’m curious about why you would dump the old chimney on your property rather than hauling it off or starting a new dumpster load? Won’t you just have to clean all that mess up later?
One of the dumpster company's rules was "no concrete in the dumpster". Also, I actually don't even think the landfills are allowed to take concrete. We wouldn't want to pay to throw out concrete anyway, when it can be placed on our own land in a good spot out of the way. We won't be cleaning it up later, it's just concrete in an area that can't be used for anything with all the other big rocks and buried junk that is there anyway.
Makes sense. Thanks for the reply.🙂
I think that pile is fine out there. One day in times to come you may revisit the place and remove the pile. Right now you don’t have resources to drag it away. I read some people said don’t dump it but good grief you can’t do everything perfect for the arm chair quarter backs. IMO the pile can sit right there till another day when immediate projects are looming. Winter is coming and you have so much to do . I say good job you two. I just love you guys💕
You really got me on the chimney going back up! Good video and quite the day's work.
This Doug and Ashley Construction Company. This place is gonna be beautiful when done with no leans against this home! It's all ur"s! Keep the videos coming!💯💯
Doug & Ashley I feel like I'm saying the same thing over n over. Great job! And I will say it again..great job!!
Doug: The goal is to push this over without taking me with it.
Ashley: That would be ideal.
😂😂😂
You two are cute. I really enjoyed listening to y'all joke and talk to eachother. You can tell that you enjoy eachother's company.
Loved the reverse action and slow motion on the chimney fall. Nice touch. Every time I see you risk life and limb I think TRACTOR. A metal pole down the chimney with chain wrapped at the top and a little pull from the old tractor would have taken that chimney quick and safe. That's not chimney scrap thats fill and should be placed in an easy to get at spot for a time when your doing a driveway or something then covered with class 5. Also get a ball and hitch for the tractor and pull your trailer with that so you don't ruin your car. Love the channel. Hope I don't seem hypercritical. Just tractor, tractor, tractor
Exactly my thought, why not use the tractor for pulling and hauling instead ?
I just have to say that that was the MOST AWESOME trailer backing I've ever seen!!!!
In your last video (?), I was distressed when Ashleigh (Ashley?) let the chickens all out of the coop (I'm a city girl), wondering how she would round them all up at bedtime. It was amazing to see them all hop right up and into the coop!!! LOL
The chicks are admiring the big new chicken coup. ha ha ha coup shopping bird style
I could watch u guys every day
Why dont you take all of it to a dump?
There's no need to spend our time and money disposing of concrete. It's handy to have and harmless on the property :)
You really lucked out getting that chimney down, congrats. You need to leave a bit o space between your bales to promote circulation. This keeps rot and mold down greatly. Most stock will not eat molded hay. Great progress. Wonderful team work by the way! Thanks for sharing:)
.
The chimney should have had a cricket to divert water around it. The concrete should be smashed and added to the road base (or any foundation work) so as to not litter the forest.
It's just concrete, it's not litter
Every country homestead, farm ect has a resource pile hidden somewhere, if you dont like it offer to come take it away for them, and it's his property, so its non ya!
@@heatherfonner Nicely missing the point, but whatever.
I love watching demo! I think the change of plans to redo the front of the house was a very needful thing!
Great episode and great work done. Do what you like while your young. By the time you get older like 55 plus you will look back and share the memories with your children. Your little boy is so cute with his super blonde hair.
Great work you two,love it👍😊...
thanks for all the videos. I always love it when my notification says OITC. I could watch you and you little family every day. Makes me yearn for a simpler life. Keep up the good work.
Dearest ones, you have come a long way. You set goals and you've met them. You've worked hard and long, but I think your saving grace has always been your go with the flow attitude. That, 'it'll be okay' mentality can take you a long way in life. You've learned to improvise, become adaptable, and sometimes the changes that have to be made to accommodate something else can turn out beautiful. Still the hardest working people on the planet. I hope all your dreams come true! ;)
TYVM 💕 all your videos are Fasinating OITC
Another great adventure... Doug & Ashley demolition crew. Yes, one day at a time that is all we can ask. Bless you both.
Check out Doug's mad driving skills maneuvering that trailor between them trees! Awesomeness!
I was truly impressed.
I thought the same thing.. :)
You're fine!! Old videos....new videos!!!! They are all great!!
That chimney was really an accident waiting to happen. One of the babies or you or Ashley could have been hurt really bad.
I'm watching Ashley toss those chunks of the chimney like there's no tomorrow and all I can think is "Ouch, my back!". How do you guys manage to avoid muscle aches and pains with all that lifting?.... lots of stretching before and after?
As always, looking forward to the next episode! ... I laughed so hard at those cheeky chicks at the end! :)
Ashley always surprises me with her strength. We just stay busy and keep our muscles ready for more ;)
Sometime in the future you can go there and have someone with a backhoe to dig a great big hole then push all that debris in it and cover it up then you can use the land.
We're using it now ;)
@@diyfferent yes if you call a junk pile using it. That mobile home looks just like the place you put the chimney.
@@brendadavis4254 wow, no need for the rudeness.
I love you guys.. I'm a black lawyer and you guys inspire me
“Stay out of the barn” made me laugh
Your land is beautiful! And you'll are making it more gorgeous!!!!
You're going to have to watch that group of chicks...lol...they're an adventurous "squad" that will get into trouble if they can. Look for the ring leader..there's always one of those. hahaha
You could have almost built this house from scratch with all the work you are doing!
Yes, from scratch- but what these commenters do not realize is the cash-flow factor, AND having a place to live while the work is getting done.
Yeah! For your brains and planning!
the house does look better without the chimney! Love the way you two work together!
So glad that chimney is gone, gone, gone! Great job Guys!
Doug and Ashley, your such a lovely couple and as I watch you two work so diligently on your home & property I pray that all of your dreams come true because you two deserve everything Beautiful The Lord has to offer.
Thank you for sharing
My goodness, it was only the ants and caterpillar poop that were holding the chimney up.
Your home will look much better without the ugly chimney 🤗x
I am so glad to see the chimney go. It was such an obvious add-on, and it completely spoiled the lines of the front of the house. I think the house is going to look so much nicer with the new windows and siding, I'm really looking forward to seeing that unfold.
I think you can continue working on the interior while you're waiting for the windows and doors. You might as well do all the sister joists in the ceiling of the living room area, as well as adding thickness to the wall studs, wiring, etc. That way, once you've got the exterior completed, doing Maverick's room will go very quickly and the living room will be a breeze. You could even, if you wanted to, start hanging drywall and the like. I know you like to do things one room at a time, but sometimes it makes more sense to multitask.
We would love to work on this inside too but it really comes down to money. We had to spend a lot to buy the windows and door, and even more to but the new sheathing, wood, and house wrap, etc. So we just don't have the money to work on the inside too. That was why we had to switch gears, it was really one or the other without taking on too much debt. (not complaining or begging though) This is all fine, we are doing okay, working it out, and it's coming together :)
@@diyfferent I can relate. Home repairs and renovations just gobble up money.
Someday when you've got something to dig with, you could make a big hole for the rubbish. Shove the junk in, cover with dirt, plant daisies. Voila!
Like the reverse in the chimney & slo mo! You two r doing a great job!!. Got those safety goggles yet?
Doug, when you pushed it over I had to pick my chin up off the floor! That was sure smart to do it sitting down & with your feet. It couldn't have been better. Just plug the hole in the side of the house & call it a day. Good job! Take care & God Bless.
Great chimney demo! The chickens are funny little critters! 🌞🐔🐔
Not finished watching yet, but wanted to say this is a fun one! Reverse slo-mo AND chimney hole cam! 😁 Now back to the vid...
Yes! I was just thinking the same thing. So cool!
Watching your videos is so satisfying! You guys make it look so easy! I can't wait to see everything finished!
Great editing of this video! I loved watching the chimney rebuild itself. And, Doug, I'm sure glad you didn't come down with it. I loved the end when you found some of the chickens in the barn. They were exploring their new territory while you weren't watching! You two are probably a bit sore after all that heavy lifting; please take care not to hurt yourselves in all this demolition.
You must feel so relieved that the chimney is down after discovering how unsafe it was. The way it was it could have come down at any time. The house looks so much better without it. You did an amazing job as always. Hugs from Carole in UK
Just because you said, don't go back to look at the first video........well guess what I did. You guys are so awesome. God Bless
Love the rewind on the chimney and love you guys.
That was good. Slow mo with real time sound. Funny stuff.
lol, loved the reverse chimney push
You could use the pieces that did not break and use for planting. Paint nice colors, fill with soil and plant. I think that is a good use of some of it. You guys need to be careful going thru that junk. Michigan has Rattle Snakes.
It is a good thing to have a mini dump on the property far far away!!!! Hahahah. We went exploring Dad!!!!! Good job on chimney. Bye
Your mobile home looks to be about the same age as ours, judging from the materials used. We had some of that same brown siding( also painted blue) around the windows on ours. We had to replace all of it. We are the original owners of ours and have kept it up over the past 40 years. Your home is going to be beautiful when you get it redone. Love following your videos, especially since we have done much the same to ours.
Stay out of the barn !!! 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓😄😍
Love your videos and always look forward to watching them. Love you all as well. Even though it may be common practice to have a dumping area on country property , does it make it right? Of course, I've seen much worse over my years but still makes my heart sad when I see this choice (country litter). Yes, it's your land and you did well scouting out a place that is already been dumped on and your both okay with your choice so nothing more to be said. I imagine if the dumpster was still there you would have used it.
I'm sure they will get to the task of clearing that area in time, but priorities are important. They have to get the house ready for winter.
We weren't allowed to put any concrete in the dumpster. I dunno, we just don't consider concrete to be garbage, but rather "fill". We want the property clean and have been cleaning so much other garbage that previous owners left on the property.
Oh boy , you guys are killin' it! I admire your work ethic. You are a great team , and a role model for young people to aspire to. I love watching your videos!
You guys make me feel lazy lol....guess I should get up and do something 😉
LOL
Someone will curse you one day when they have to clean that rubbish up, don't you have a landfill site
Someone will curse us? We've cleaned up so much garbage in our lives at every single property we've ever owned and still have more to go on this one. No one would be concerned with a small pile of concrete. Also, landfills do not take concrete around here, nor does the dumpster. Concrete doesn't belong in a landfill taking up space.
our landfill doesn't take concrete either, and even if they did, they charge by weight, and it isn't cheap, the bill for that would be tremendous, even the city disposes of their concrete along ditch banks and riverbeds to prevent erosion and doesn't dispose of it at the landfill.... its a natural product and breaks down into simple sand and gravel....not to mention there isn't a farmhouse anywhere that doesn't have a scrap pile in the back 40..
No way. 😂 That's just part of country living. Every property has a junk pile. It's one of the first things you go looking for when you have stuff the junk man or the garbage company won't haul away. There's also probably a burn barrel somewhere too, and the ashes and leftovers that didn't burn down goes to the junk pile.
I moved the junk pile at my current house and built a fire pit to replace the burn barrel. I put the old burn barrel in my new junk pile. I'm just fancy I guess. 😂
Loved this video especially when the chimney goes back up and then comes down slo mo...lol...the hole is in the right place for maverick to look out...have a great weeks guys...awww the chickens were looking for yous.
I Loved your day!! I remember my days like that ~ We'd always end it with a bath at the creek! ❤ Yes...I am that old...lol👍
Hi you two😁 another great video👍🏻 your place is going to be so nice when your finished😁👏🏻👏🏻
Yall are some hard working people. I would have taken a whole week break to unload that trailer lol
Great video! Don't agree with dumping on your own property though, postponing cleanup to future generations.
It's just concrete. Landfills don't want it, dumpster doesn't allow it. We got rid of it properly in a good spot where it won't affect anyone. That spot had so much buried garbage from the past it will never be used for anything.
@@diyfferent My first job would be to get rid of that buried garbage as much as possible, someone will be doing it some day, might as well gettur done so your great-grandkids won't have to look at it. Most concrete yards take old concrete for free, which is used for concrete with recycled aggregate. Do you take all your trash to actual landfills? Is there no such thing there as recycle centers? Most of that junk is recyclable material, perhaps just 10% would end up on a landfill.
@@axiom1650 We've cleaned up more garbage on various properties, along roadsides, creeks, etc than anyone else we know. Someone else can deal with the buried junk in the future if they would like, but it's fine as long as we live here. As far as I know, there are no landfills/dumps around here that individuals can go to. We don't have recycling centers, but there are "recycling" dumpsters that people can take cardboard, cans, bottles, etc to which we do utilize.
New Sub. Love your videos. God bless you and your family.
Um... scary how doug knocking that chimney off was super easy. Im glad that its gone.
I guess yall are in your Element!
Glad you got the chimney down ok. That thing would’ve blown over with a little wind. Blessings
concrete no problem, but pls pick up the plastic.
Everything takes time, we'll get to it when the right time comes.
Maybe you could use the old chimney as a fire ring in that spot for burning up the debris.
Why are you dumping on your own land instead of putting it in the trash bin you had and having it hauled off?
I think that dumpster is long gone.
The dumpster is a huge expense.
There is already a dump site, they can put the stuff there for free.
Someday they may even clean up that area if they have the money of need to do it.
We disposed of the concrete properly. It's nothing more than "fill" now and doesn't belong in a landfill. Regardless, the disposal company doesn't accept concrete.
Wow that chimney fell apart before it hit the ground! Loved the replay!💕🙏
The amount of tics in that tall grass must be ENORMOUS!
It was really bad earlier in the season, but we haven't found a tick on us in for a while now. The ticks were really abundant up north for some reason this year.
Great work you guys did! I can't wait to see you guys replace the exterior walls...I need to do that as well, so I'll be bookmarking your video's on that project for sure. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for taking us along!
blocks would make good planters
I was thinking that too, LOL
just a hammer and a chisel, a stoop to sit on and you can recycle most of the bricks for such planters, and the remains can be mixed into the ground with a tiller! and no more surprises in the brushes!!!!
Yes, I was thinking the same thing!lol!
I held my breath TWICE as the chimney came down, one was when it went back UP 🤗😄😳😂😂😂😂
Lol... you realize how saying "don't watch out first video" was just an invitation to do just that! Keep working hard and enjoying yourselves.
haha. Thanks!
Its a good thing you don't have earthquakes; that chimney would have been a goner! The Whittier quake in 1987 cracked our chimney. :( Yep, I'm old. :)
Looks great! You two are doing a great job of getting this place back in shape. I’m over by Flint!
I had to laugh at the rewind of the chimney coming down! ...this was a fun video. I'm glad ya'll are still at it!
Why don’t you guys just rent a dumpster or something to throw all the stuff way so you don’t have to keep it on your property
maria hendricks They did. They just picked it up because it was full. Don’t get me wrong, I would find a way to put junk somewhere other than on my property. I couldn’t even watch!
Everything costs money
We just filled one up, but we'll be getting another dumpster when we are ready to work on the remainder of the house next year :) We'd like to clean up the plastic junk out there also.
The things you two accomplish together is inspiring. I look forward to all your videos ! ❤️
I was very impressed at how well you backed in that trailer between the trees.
You guys rock, its all about moving forward. You guys have come along ways. Great job guys!
Love those chickens! The house is coming along GREAT!
