Even though their career was so short lived, they made their mark in the music industry and their music became eternal. I heard Truly, Madly, Deeply for the first time when I was 12 and that became me and my husband's first dance song at our wedding last year. Almost every guest went to tell us how much they love that song, so you know how much of an impact they've made. Love them forever!
I still really envy those who got to watch them perform live. It still frustrates me at times that I will never be able to experience seeing them in a concert in my lifetime. They will always always be my favorite duo.
I'm in love with Savage Garden since 1997, Darren's voice is so sweet! I miss them truly, madly, deeply.. Unfortunetely I was really young in the '90s and I couldn't go to see any concert
I love these two, both so cute and adorable. You won those awards guys because you are simply the best, well deserved! The only thing I wish more than anything in this world is that you'd both reunite. SG meant everything to me then, and they always will. Love you both from the bottom of my heart. xxxx
wooo these guys I miss them so!!!!!!!! 90s music is IMMORTOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY UNTOCHABLE! THANK YOU SG for giving us fans ABSOLUTE PERFECTION with just 2 records >.< not a lot of people can do what you guys have done with your fan base. thank you for giving us every emotion in your music with words to lift us up when were lost in this journey of life and helping us find ourselves. (me especially) I was 7 and suicidal until I heard you can still be free you saved this fans life I LOVE YOU
So glad to watch this videos archive of Savage Garden after all this years. It brings only joy and good feelings watching this and listening to their songs over and over again.
History in the making, blessed year and era. That's a record which is not going to be taken away from Savage Garden anytime soon. They're also the only Australian act since Men at Work to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with 2 different songs (Truly Madly Deeply, I Knew I loved You). It's been 19 years and counting, and all the Sias and Kylies of this world have not been able to match that feat. They've got their own plaque in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley and rank proudly alongside Helen Reddy, Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John and Men at Work as the only Australian artists to have topped scored at least two #1 singles in the USA.
You know, sometimes I imagine, what their story would be looked like, if Daniel hasn't decided to lead it to an end. How massive could they be, how many #1 positions and records'd be achieved yet, how many Grammys honored etc But in the other sec I understand, that it could only happen in my imagination. SavageGarden became extremely huge, as it was their era of music, their generation of people, who used to live to the fullest. The right time and the right place, but it's not that world anymore. It's been kinda of magical cooperation of two talents and you absolutely know, that everything genuine and truthful doesn't exist for a long time.
Wow where did 27 years just go....? This was a golden time for music & epic albums from Madonna, janet jackson, savage garden & the lighthouse family..oh my what a glorious time to be young & alive❤
Daniel wanted out of the band before their second album was released. They had to convince him to stay on until the end of their tour. There’s more info below in the rest of the comment section.
They were so popular back then, I think Darren made a mistake saying he wanted to go on his own solo, after that neither of their careers were that popular afterwards. They should have stayed together although I did like Darren's music solo but there was power in numbers plus one was the vocalist and the other musician and sound effects. Loved their music.
Darren said exactly the opposite: that he was happy to be the face of Savage Garden, that it allowed him to do what he'd always wanted, that he'd never had left the band. Daniel on the other hand was not comfortable with touring and spending heaps of time away from his family and home in Queensland. He was a pure musician who liked to play instruments and craft melodies, not a performer for the stage. He wanted out, that was what caused the breakup of Savage Garden. Disappointing indeed but it is not hard to understand his reasons. In fact he left the music industry altogether after a few years, confirming that he had no intention of sticking around. For many years I'd been wishing they would reunite, I am over it now. Could they have made it with a third studio album at least? The demo material that's been leaked since then indicates that they could have, the creativity was still there. But it is no use lamenting over that, I'd rather remain thankful for the incredible gift which they gave the world with their music. It is an incredible success story considering their backgrounds.
@@oldskoolmusicnostalgia agree, and it's a shame that a recent published article stated that Darren & Daniel are no longer friends, let alone have spoken in years. It has pretty much wiped out any hope of a future Savage Garden reunion tour or release. That and Darren semi retired years ago, so even his interest in returning to any kind of music career right now is at an all time low. He seems more intent on making podcasts instead now. Oh well. Like many others here I am sure, I'll just have to live on all the memories I had of them both performing together when I was a completely obsessed teenager, attending all their concerts and living and breathing their albums lol.
@@oldskoolmusicnostalgiagreat response. All credit to Daniel for making the choice that was right for him. Nice to see Darren back again. His new album is fascinating and his 2022 interviews revealing. Fame and the pop star lifestyle is not for everyone and we’ve seen how badly it can end for some.
depressing story.. This is a true "making it " in the music business success story. Darren mistake was he joined with someone who is Quiet. A music Hobbyist meeting a Star. I just mapped there last 15 years and it is a bit depressing. While watching this video, i can totally feel the Detachment between the 2 Guys. They did this to make money and i am SUPER disappointed to say the least. They aren't friends... never were..
A lot of bands are like that , they just pretend to be " freind's " . 90% of the best musicians can't stand each other . The two women in Abba never spent time with each other apart from performance's.
Never pretended to be friends, there were just 2 music soulmates, who felt each other lyrically and perceived music on the same level. They were handsome, talented and incredibly ambitious young men, who seemed to have the same aim in life, bt eventually it wasn't. The example of interesting path without happy-ending story. It's kinda sorry, music without them will always be deficient.
You are disappointed for the wrong reasons. They never hid the fact that they were not friends. Darren in particular explained that they were two very different people who challenged each other to produce good music as a duo - they did together what each of them could not do on his own. You are basically expecting every individual out there to develop close friendships with each person they work with? Whoever thought they were best buddies is just projecting their own perceptions onto two highly talented musicians.
5:48 👍🏾👍🏾yeah that is extremely cool and rock and roll to redo a beach song in yucky France that is totally awesome rocks people not some little gag voice uhhhh the pitch is so immature and don't they got a test and cles in the ctry >>
THEY DESERVE EVERY SINGLE AWARD ON EARTH
I know, right? 👍

To the moon and back "infact" is a song out of this world. Beautiful
Proof that savage garden was impossible to beat back in the day.
I still really envy those who got to watch them perform live. It still frustrates me at times that I will never be able to experience seeing them in a concert in my lifetime. They will always always be my favorite duo.
