I agree with Kevin. Gordon Solie was the best commentator in professional wrestling. He was articulate, quick on his feet, had a steady tone, and was well-versed in the sport. He added class and authenticity to professional wrestling.
Very good simp
LISTEN! Did you know that actor/professional wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper posted a tweet saying that the motion picture he starred in, THEY LIVE, was a Documentary & not a movie! Now Ya Do...
Remember That!! "Just when THEY think THEY have all the answers, I change the questions!!!" ~ RRP
LISTEN! Did you know that Jo Buyed-In announced his VP, KAMALA HARRIS on August 9, 2020 which also happens to be the same day that former professional wrestler KAMALA, whom of the same real last name, James HARRIS, passed away at the age of 70!?! Now Ya Do...
LISTEN! Did you know that Ric "Space Mountain" Flair sacrificed his "son" Reed to further his own career or was it for Charlie, I mean Charlotte,, no no I meant Ashley? Now Ya Do...
I recall a middle aged Richard Fleir who stated that nobody gets to the top of anything in this world, I don't care who you are, be it politics, Hollywood, rock star or pro wrestler, without sacrificing something or someone! We all know Ash is a man!! Just look at those fingers!!! WoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo!
Women tend to have ring and index fingers of similar lengths while men's are more likely to vary. Babies who were exposed to more male hormone in the womb tend to develop more 'male-typical' hands. ... Women's index and ring fingers are typically of similar length while in men there is a greater difference.

Gordon Solie could have called NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB games. He was that good!
I grew up watching CWF with Gordon Solie as a kid up until 20. Solie really treated wrestling as a competitive sport and never winked at the camera, was never campy...he was the best.
BOTTOM LINE: Without Gordon Solie, there's no Jim Ross.
Gordon was the Best! He was so scientific with Latin Terms, Medical Terms, and proper Wrestling Terms. Gordon was as big to the match as the wrestlers. He was a great storyteller (Dusty's face becomes a crimson mask or it appears Colt has a foreign object in his hand.) We all remember the infamous phone call from the NWA President. Backstage Gordon was a wonderful person and I am proud to call him My Brother. Alas, my brother!

Gordon was so good. Such an iconic voice.
Solie was far and away the best. Nobody even comes close. He wouldn't succeed in today's business as the product is completely different today than it was back then, but he was the best when wrestling was truly great.
Can't argue with Kevin on Gordon Solie being the best. But that was out of FL. Here in TN it would be hands down Lance Russel.
When I first heard Solie as a kid I thought he was boring. Then the more I listened to him I loved his style and appreciated how great he was.
Gordon was the Dean of Wrestling commentators for sure ! Thats a cool fact i didnt know on how he was discovered . Ill file that into my overloaded wrestling brain of facts ! Im partial to Lance Russel growing up in the 80s in the South though ! Similar styles that made you believe it . Great great times ! Damn i feel old ! 44 is the new 34 dammit ! LOL !
There were a couple of occasions when Gordon and Lance teamed up to announce: once in Memphis and once in WCW in the late 80s. I don't have words to describe the awesomeness of that pairing.
@@actionsub YES YES YES ! I still got vhs tapes from then . That was great ! NWA and CWA was what made me a fan as a kd ! Hogan got me in wrestling in 85 , the former secured me !
Bob Caudel rocked!(Crockett territory)
Gordon was a natural communicator.
I grew up on CWF in Florida wrestling in the early 80s. I remember watching Sullivan vs Dusty on the tv, & Solie likened it to a car wreck or the Hindenburg crashing.
Gordon Solie was the greatest. Nobody probably ever heard of this guy but as a kid I enjoyed Ed Capral who did announcing for wrestling in Atlanta for 20 years. Lance Russell was also great in Memphis.
Grew up in Tallahassee watching Gordon Solie on Championship Wrestling from Florida, went to several events at the old Tallahassee Sports Arena, an old tobacco barn, Gordon was always there walking around talking to people, great times!
Gordon always sold his wrestlers' back stories with dead seriousness and did his best to give them a more 3-dimentional personality.
I met Gordon Solie as a kid in Montgomery Ala , at a Mid South Wrestling Show - Gordon was well known for walking around, talking to the crowd before the Shows started .He shook my hand , smiled and asked me who my favorite Wrestler was , to which i replied " Bullet Bob Armstrong, Sir!"
As a WWE kid in the 80s I discovered the NWA and Gordon Solie. Though I couldn't conceptualize it I knew I was seeing something "real" and gritty vs. the entertainment I was accustomed to.
So long from the sunshine state !!!!!!!!!♥️ back in the day when wrestling was real .
Always remembered that sign off
Kevin needs his own WSI show ASAP 🏆
Gordon seemed like a great great man. Never seen him yell or get excited he was always so calm!
I still go with Lance Russell, but he was the main one I was raised with. Gordon Solie is, without a doubt, his closest contender for the throne. And Lance would be the first to tell you that -- they worked together sometimes, and that was magic.
I loved listening to Gordon Solie.
I remember seeing the same clip MVP was talking about, it shows Kevin coming out to the desk to be interviewed by Gordon and during the interview he points at Gordon's hand and says "I see you have the Egyptian ways wrapped around your finger" and Gordon looks taken aback by the comment.
Tony Schiavone and David Crockett. Look at him, look at him!😅
I really thought Kevin was going to go there...HATED listening to David Crockett. When he wasn't screaming "watch him Tony", he was simping over Dusty, Magnum, and Ric Flair (now that's cognitive dissonance).

... When Gordon did his interviews with the opponents on each side of the desk were epic . Mr Sullivan could milk theses for full effect . Dusty and The Great Malenko were masters of this style as well ...
Lance Russell !
I love gordonsolie wrestling show , he was really fun to watch his show thanks for the great memories
I remember as a kid. 605. Pm. On Saturday. Tbs. Gordon solie. 🐐. Goat. 💯
I'm a JR guy, but i grew up in Arkansas and so, like he said, you like your local guy best.
Gordon's catch-phrases never grow old- "His face is a crimson mask!" "It's a pier-six brawl" "We'll be back once order is restored!" "Certainly no question about that." Gordon and Dusty Rhodes were to wrestling what Howard Cosell and Muhammad Ali were to boxing. So much of Championship Wrestling from Florida's huge success was due to Gordon Solie. I agree with Sullivan, Gordon was the best at calling wrestling. Jim Ross was the best when things changed to "sports entertainment."
Don't forget him calling a Suplex a "Su-play" as if it were a French move.
@@rccomics Up until the early 80s, that was fairly common with wrestling announcers. I remember hearing others use that same pronunciation way back in the day.

As crazy as Kevin’s character was, he always called Gordon “Mr. Solie”. Respect.
Sadly I never heard his commentary, but my faves were always gorilla and heenan
I loved Gordon Solie. I grew up in LA with Dick Lane, who did commentary for wrestling and roller derby at the Olympic Auditorium. He too respected the business, working with wrestlers like Freddie Blassie, Edouard Carpentier, Sailor Art Thomas, Count Billy Varga, Rikkidozan and other greats of his time. He deserves more attention than he has every received.
Lane, Ray Morgan, Michel Normandin and a couple of others from the late 50s and early 60s were incredibly respected, and were terrific on the mic. Sadly, very little of their work has survived (although some of Normandin's Montreal Canadiens announcing from before 1963 is still around , which might give you an idea of how he was. Of course, it's all in Quebec French, but still.....

I loved Gordon Solie and nobody’s gonna have a clue who I’m talking about but I grew up on Ed Capral who did GCW from 1955-1972 and All South Championship Wrestling with Ann Gunkel and then spent a little while in Mid Atlantic in South Carolina. He wasn’t charismatic but I liked him. He once knocked Freddie Blassie out with a microphone (Kayfabe I’m sure).
Gordon was a master of putting guys over.He would put the talent from the main event guys to the enhancement talent over and treated wrestling as a serious sport like nobody else I ever heard.Only thing was in Continental wrestling working for the Fullers he would get wrestlers names mixed up and tell people to look at their monitor under their seat or something strange like that. But he would be a bit tipsy 🥴 sometimes
Gordon Solie was the best, IMO. My childhood wrestling was WTCG (before the TBS) and Gordon Saturday and Sunday nights, but a close 2nd was Lance Russell on WMC 5 in Memphis on Saturday mornings.
What about Lance Russell? He was a great announcer too.
Truly, Gordon Solid was the greatest.❤
Best is something I don't feel I could say, but my favorite was Mean Gene. I hated Michael Cole, but I am aware so much of that was because he had Vince screaming in his ear.
This is fantastic Gordon Solie was the best
YES, that's just the way I saw things when Gordon was commentating, too! He was the greatest! The comments that Ole Anderson made about him were not very kind. They're both together now, and hopefully, at peace.
I only got to see the end of his career but I agree that he was that good.
Kevin is right Gordon was the Best ever.
Now wait a minute, A pier 6 brawl has just broken out......WE ARE OUT OF TIME..... So long from the Sunshine State.
Solie had a natural talent but he was always meticulous about preparation. How do I know? Because my friend's sister directed the in house shows for CWF at WTOG - Lisa Z.
For a second, I thought that was Christopher Walken on the thumbnail.
Wow a former race track announcer, that was a joke at our house. My dad said that’s what he sounded like.
Gordon Solie was considered the Dean of professional wrestling I agree with that point, but to me, the greatest tv wrestling announcer was Larry Matusik out of St.Louis he could get the wrestlers to perform on tv as intense as they would perform at a paid live event. Wrestlers at the Chase were rarely paid for their matches, but they went all out after hearing Larry's commentary. Matusik rules! !
Kevin Sullivan Gordon solie Rip 🌹
Gordon knew entertainment before Vince
Gordon would come second to me as favorite but.. his voice was rather unique. Every one has their favorite goat & Jim Ross is mine.
Mr. TV announcer was the best.
When the AWA started doing shows at the Cow Palace and their syndicated studio show was on KTVU (channel 2) at 11:00 am, in the San Francisco Bay Area, THE guy was Mean Gene Okerlund. Not a commentator, but an interviewer. None better. Never been happy with any interviewer since. Didn't even know who Solie was until I started reading PWI.
Gordon
Lance Russell
Jim Ross
J.r stayed longer then he should have
Hey hey mate !
( his face is a crimson mask !!!!! )💀 good old Gordon Solie ♥️🙏
Man imagine Gordon Solie still being around during the whole NWO invasion, he would’ve brought more realness to the storyline than it already was
True Gordon Solie was the best!! TREATED IT AS IF IT was real!! MADE IT Better !! WAS MADE REAL!! BY GORDON!! Who needs real!!
Gordan is the GOAT!!!
Gordon would have been good at announcing anything
The best
larry matyzyk was very similar to gordon, same attributes, just didnt get the national exposure working out of st. louis. Wrestling at the chase was never syndicated.
Let's here about the Double A Benoit Warning! Ya know, don't mess with another mans... Somebody had to pay the Piper & I'm not talkin' HOTROD!!

Five letters. Two words: I quit.
Golden Gate speedway in Tampa.
Solie wasn’t called “The Dean” for nothing.
No question Solie was the best. Never understood the hype over Ross.
Lance Russell did a he'll of a job
No doubt GORDON SOLIE WAS THE BEST !!!
Ron Morrier
David Crockett was the worst by a mile.
Sorry Lance Russell was the best followed closely by Jim Ross Gordon was horrible monotoned and talked too much about souffle's.
Gordon Solie put me to sleep listening to his bland style. Vin Scully is another who is celebrated as as great. I just didn't see it.
But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Not saying they weren't good just not my style.
Baffles me that people think Jim Ross was a good commentator. The 1st thing they teach you in Broadcasting school is to speak clearly and remove any colloquial accent be it southern, NY accent, etc. Ross is HORRIBLE
