3:25 This section broke my heart, hearing a mother call their child the wrong pronoun is always heartbreaking. There is absolutely nothing "sinful" about being trans/queer, I highly dislike this claim. The bible says only God can judge, to not pass judgment onto others, yet so many people pick and choose what sins are "acceptable", openly disrespecting their peers (and children) because they deem something "wrong". There is nothing wrong with someones genitalia not aligning with how they feel, identify, etc. It is so weird that the older generations are so stuck on a penis meaning "he/him" or "man" and a vagina meaning "she/her" or "woman". There is no reason to openly shame someone for not conforming to that, it's wrong on so many levels.
My mother did not respect my pronouns at first, while saying she loved me. I did not feel loved, I had to grieve the "unconditional" love she taught me about. Her idea of me, was not who I am, yet my feelings meant less to her than her own. She was so stuck on me identifying with my genitals, that she forgot she was supposed to love me and not judge. When I changed my name she sobbed, she grieves my younger self, I do not feel loved. I am the same person, I have always been me, now I am just able to identify what that is, it should be as acceptable as changing your hair to something you like more.
"it's just a phase", the moon has tons of phases, but it is always the moon. Even if this identity doesn't last forever, why is it so hard to be kind? Why is your delusion of what someone "should be" more important than that persons happiness? How does someone's pronouns ruin your life? How is it sinful to dress in what makes you comfortable? To feel loved, supported, accepted and wanted? Why does that not matter to you? Your child's happiness should matter more than what you think they should call themselves.
15:10 Ever seen a dog not respond to the name chosen for them? It's not who they are. I think it's sinful to pass judgment onto others which inevitably causes harm (another sin). It's so sad that parents seem to think their children are like pets, that you can name, train, punish, etc. Children are human beings, if you cannot accept your child having different beliefs without respect, then why have children? If you're going to hate your child for changing (as is nature) then why bother? I wish I could parent everyone who feels judged, isolated, unloved, unheard by their parents. There is nothing worse than for those who are meant to love and protect you, turning on you. Children deserve to feel loved, no matter what, no matter what age.
Thank you for sharing your story, Kyler, I feel seen.
