I miss seeing those sets on the Glasgow - Edinburgh run. Sheer bliss listening to reverberations of 47s (& 37s) powering up the tunnel incline away from Queen Street station.
2 things I noticed from this video, 1) A 47 doesn't look quite right when missing its 3 piece mini snowplough. 2) I'm sure the 'cowcatcher' on the DBSO used to sit lower, although I could be wrong.

    • @hexagon7895

Big respect to locomotive services at Crewe for recreating this set. It looks stunning. I didn’t know that 47712 still had its push pull equipment fitted. It was state of the art technology at the time, I know modern locomotives like the 67s and 68s can operate push pull out of the box , but to get an old 47 to do it took some work. I noticed that 712 has been fitted with UIC sockets on each end, they are more reliable than the RCH cables that were used originally with the DBSO.

everything loco hauled got replaced by rubbish 🗑 electric operated tin can sprinters sadly all over the UK! then if it ❄ snows or we get leaves on the lines these bog units can't operate! a class 47 or any other loco hauled train wouldn't have these issues as I would rather travel in a mk1-2-3 propper coach than on a crap bog unit dmu/emu sprinter or any other modern foreign rubbish that dominates the uk's failing railway networks in the 2020s 😎

@@justinobrien3593 well having used the class 385 8 car EMU set from Haymarket to Glasgow last month. I couldn't fault them. Acceleration was lively and the ride was very good. The seats were comfortable and spacious and there were plenty of them. There are trains every 15 minutes too and they are proving very popular. The only downside is the front end looks hellish. As for the 158s a lot now work on rural lines such as trains around Fife and north to and from Inverness with better seats. You can often see a 158 set coupled to a 170 turbo star where a longer train is needed. Scotrail inherited some HST sets and none travel south or east of Edinburgh as I would love to see them tackle the Border Railway which is proving a big challenge for the 170s on that route.

Not really a fan of Push-Pull trains apparence this formations resemble a multiple unit when on push running rather than the classic train we all know loco first, so i believe LSL likewise on Intercity formations might strugle to attract enthusiasts when and if put this Scotrail formation on tours as it happened with intercity formation. Working Extras services purposes like for Avanti West Coast throughout Her Majesty's funeral week last year for instance, would be very useful, specially on non-electrified lines as a class 47 matching its livery would be permanently allocated to provide traction i guess.Thank you for sharing the video.
