I hear you. Im 70 and am so glad the days of working 2 jobs are behind me. Cleaned motel all day left there and worked in a tyson factory all night. Both jobs very physically hard and like you said never any time off. Best thing i did accomplish...i paid my home off after many years. Now i live on my SS only and it makes it easier not paying for a place to live. I feel blessed every day. Now i live simple, and frugally.

One thing I would say also is consider downsizing your appliance size if needing to buy new, I now use an apartment refrigerator that uses less electricity and doesn't have the bells and whistles that were rarely used previously.. ie water dispenser, ice maker (I now use ice cube trays). It was less expensive to buy too. I agree with your good advice.

I have been busy working long hours at my job. After spending $6 in the vending machine two days in a row, I decided to take a little time out of my day off to do some baking. I made muffins for breakfast and brownies for snacks at break. I also tossed a sweet potato in the oven to bake at the same time for an easy side dish for dinner. I am pretty good about prepping a meal for work, but those vending machine snacks add up fast when you are there 10 or 12 hours.... I was even smart and turned the heat down in the house before turning the oven on.

100 percent right on buying quality, you can buy less and have it for a long time. Be frugal not cheap. Frugal is buying something at its lowest price even if you have to wait to buy it on sale or buy used quality. If you write everything down you can see where you wasted money and where you can save money. Had the girls working at dollar tree talking about how tight things were for them, and the one was saying she had to go get her coffee at Ducan donuts, she did not have time coming into work. So, I asked her if she knew how much she spent, she looked at me like I was nuts. She buys a coffee every day. So, I asked how much then told her you spend this much on coffee a week, this much on coffee a month and this much on coffee a year. She couldn't believe it. Making coffee at home is so much cheaper, even if you have to buy the coffee pot to do it, you now the one that foams your milk. Peace!

Good words! I really need to curb my going out to eat, it seems that's all my older friends want to do, and my tummy doesn't like most fast food.... its my goal to invite friends in and cook in the new year.... Hugs~ Lea

That is exactly why I quit work and stayed home when I had our second child. I added up what we had spent on the first one with baby sitting, doctor bills from catching everything the other kids had, medicine, eating out because I was too tired to cook, disposable diapers, formula, ect. I made 9,000. a year and a minimum of 11,000. would be what we would spend. My husband couldn't believe it but there it was in black and white. So I made my case, he agreed and I became a stay at home wife.

I have not worked two jobs in years, but I don't turn down "gigs", they come periodically....a sewing project, dog sitting job, cake making contract etc. I will not let those opportunities pass by. They don't cause long term stress or sleep loss, and I look at them like God sent blessings 😊. An extra $50 doesn't sound like much, but it can take care of an unexpected need from time to time

This year I am not sending out cards to any of the You Tubers that I watch. Most have an address but do not send out cards back. Some have no address to send to. I guess that I am old fashioned in that when I send a card I like getting one in return. I do wish you a very Merry Christmas 🎄. Please, not comments to bawl me out for my opinion on cards from anyone on here.

I call the hat a toboggan here in southern Indiana. My Mom was raised in East Tennessee near Spring City, and she taught me that it is, indeed, a toboggan! But, then, a toboggan is also a sled, go figure.

    • @dawn.hoffman

I am originally from NW Indiana, and never heard a stocking cap called a toboggan until I moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. I thought I was being pranked. I looked the definition up and one source stated southern Indiana and others stated southern or midland US. Very strange indeed. 😊

Made me think about when my ex would muse about me getting a job...and we would have had to figure out transportation with having only 1 car...and paying someone to look after toddler...and I probably would not have earned enough to do that.

I worked 2 jobs for over 8 years into my 50s and took care of my sick mother. I’m 71 now. My coat is 23 years old and can’t afford a new one . I have had towels that have lasted for 20 years . I’m now in a bad situation. Living with my son DIL and grandchildren. I am paying $1500 to live here because they are milking me dry .
