Greater petrosal nerve comes out of the carotid canal , joins the deep petrosal nerve (sympathetic fibers form ICA) forming VIDIAN nerve (Nerve to pterygoid canal)

also the Carotid canal has 3rd structure called Lesser petrosal Nerve that again enters to foramen OVALE
