Hi! I'm a classical pianist, have been playing for over 11 years an I got to say that you are insane! This progress for only a year is really impressive and I can see you're starting to get a lot more comfortable with different techniques and your musicality also is great for only this short time. Keep up the good work and two years from now you may be playing la campanella!
Great job! I'm 51 and I just started teaching myself about a month ago. Your 1 month progress is a little ahead of mine. I think it's because of the age difference. It's a little harder to get the hands to do what you want them too when you got a little arthritis. However I've noticed a bit of improvement since I started, they don't hurt nearly as bad as they used to. My memory and focus has gotten a bit better as well. So overall I think it's a win, but still pushing to get better.
I got chilled when you started using your right hand at 2:33. I'm looking into learning the piano after my whole life telling myself that I cannot learn music. I completely understand that to make this kind of progress, you either have to work really hard or have something for music. But this is truly inspiring.
Wow, fantastic progess! I'm amazed at how quickly you seem to get the hang of everything. I'm a music teacher (whose main instrument is piano) with plenty of beginner students and let me tell you that what you have achieved in one year is very remarkable. It shows that with enough motivation, you can find/discover hidden talents at any age. Also, I really hope you get yourself that upright you showed at the end because it would be very well deserved. Congrats once again!
The piano is the closest thing I’ve ever known to a religious ritual. When you really get into the flow of it, it can be transcendental. It’s a beautiful gift.
still very young! Excellent progress you are a pianist already. keep going and imagine yourself say at 41! Take lessons to even accelerate progress. You are way ahead …fast learner.
This is really inspiring. For my art credit in high school, I am taking piano. We are also using the same book! (The first Alfred’s beginner book). I aspire to hopefully be at that level by 2024. Keep up the amazing work and dedication.
At 6 weeks you’re playing really impressive! How are you learning so quickly? I find the harder sheets are really hard to read with lots of sharps and flats
@@lmichelle7418 hey thanks! It certainly takes a lot of time and effort to get comfortable with it. Complicated key signatures are not something to start with, highly recommend following a method book to start, it will ease you into the learning at an appropriate pace. Best of luck!

This also 37-year old self-taught pianist (although I was only a re-starter with years of formal instruction in my teens) approves. Your level of dedication is commendable! I'd like to suggest you try Christian Sinding's piece 'Frühlingsrauschen', which is basically a folly made to sound like it is a piece for super virtuosos but in reality isn't that hard at all. Will still give you goose bumps if you've learned it though, and be really impressive for your listeners - all while also being just a genuinely great piece of music.
Amazing, Chris. Very encouraging for me, one week into leaning. Love Nuvole Bianche, it was a catalyst for me buy and start learning again. 40 years gone by since lessons as a child that I couldn't stick with at that age.
Hey thanks for the comment! Nuvole Bianche is a fav of mine too, didn’t think I’d get to play it after a year but it’s surprising what can be done if you are determined. Thankfully that piece has a lot of repetition which helps. Best of luck in your learning!
I started exactly two years ago after a 40 year break. I was 52 and didn’t know if it was even possible to learn as an adult. Surprisingly enough I had some muscle memory for scales, but had to learn to read music from scratch. After two months I decided to find a teacher to help me with technique and structure- I wanted to follow the classical path without the stress of doing the practical exams. With her guidance and daily practice I managed to progress through grades 3-7 and started gr 8 this year. It’s by far the best gift I’ve ever given myself! Wishing you well in your journey.
The thing I like about piano is that without the restriction of set levels you can play whatever you want and make it sound so simple yet beautiful. Keep going man! Pretty interesting I have same experience at 20 currently a year in a half. Weird to think how things could be if someone showed me the piano growing up or if I’m at a part in my life where wanting to be a pianist was only possible cause the time I found it and with you I’m not sure of course but I see the same in the comments of all older ages where it’s not forced onto the person at an early age but a passion to people nonetheless.
Yes! The first year was my hardest.. I would say I didn't came that far and if I played all very slow and with pauses. I consider his pace and fluent playing most impressive after that time 👏🏻👏🏻🎹💖
It seems i have the worst learning technique i learned fur Elise main theme on my first week and somehow can play it decently lol. Trying to learn river flows in you
Make sure to hone your Solfeggio. While you're waiting for the bus, let a song come into your head and figure out the solfeggio for the melody. I did it when I was ~35. Usually over each beat the melody is moving from one scale degree to another, and that usually gives you the chord. Playing by ear is where it's at IMO.
Only a year or so of violin growing up, I would say I started piano as a beginner to music. Takes a lot of commitment, practice and patience. I’m sure you’re on a good path!
@@ironhead23 at least you knew how to read sheets before? That's what I learned as child and learned myself a bit about harmony as child too. That's what helped as adult learning self taught. But these days our possibilities learning self taught are way bigger.. I didn't have any as child.

Ur more than welcome! I love my piano as well, played as from childhood but never learned to read music. Im 51 now (female) and intent to finally take lessons to be able to read. But man…it will be a tough thing 😂 im so used to play by hearing…
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 keep going, I'm in the self journey and it's been incredible! Congrats!!!!
Amazing progress! Thank you for sharing this. It really motivated me to keep going 💪🏻❤
Hey thanks! You got this!!
Well done Chris… beautifully played!!
Amazing progress!
Thanks !
preserverence bring great result, wish i have those. great progress :)
Wow! Amazing!!! Great job in teaching yourself.
I just bought my keyboard this week and started learning the River flows in you with no piano knowledge or music whatsoever. I am very excited to learn and get better 🫣
That is really a tremendous progress. Thanks for your inspiration
Thanks, really appreciate that! Happy to hear I’ve helped give some inspiration!
Verry good! As someone who is also self taught (5 years now) the first 1-2 years are some of the hardest IMO. Keep it up! And remember, have fun with it!
Thanks! Good points for sure
I'm stunned to find so many self taught players here 🎹💖 I'm also self taught but many I connected over my channel now are not self taught and way better then me I think.. So it's so nice to see some self taught here going same journey.. Wished youtube brought them to my channel..
love this so much
I learned nuvole bianche in the first month 🔥💪🏻
Great Video Chris!
Hey thanks! Appreciate the comment
U have excellent song choice 👌
I’ve been playing piano for a year and a half I think the biggest mistake I made was playing all the hard songs first because it didn’t teach me the principles I now have been playing for 1 1/2 and can play winter wind this is the result of adhd concentration
Great job! It's a good example of where to be at different stages for me. My new Korg B2 keyboard arrives tomorrow. I'm 53. That book seems like a great guide. I'll buy one today. There is only one excellent teacher in my area since I live in the country. When and if I can ever get in with her I'll use a teacher. Until then I'll just use the book. Thanks for the example.
Thanks! The Alfred's books are a great place to start learning, especially if you're on your own. Good luck with your learning and search for a teacher!
That's cool 😎 I also started learning self taught as adult 3.5 years ago and now found a teacher in my country who supports me individual online. I wish you good luck and much passion at the piano on your way and keep my fingers cross you'll get the teacher!!!
Wow, well done, Chris!🥰 Your progress is really impressive! Keep it up!👍👍
Thanks, appreciate the kind words!
Wow so many self taught players here... Are you self taught too?
Just cool great progress !!!!! Keep on the track !!!!👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Phenomenal progress and video, the camera angle makes it very noticeable how month after month your hands get more loosened up and comfortable.
Hope to see more great work, keep it up! 😉
Thanks, really appreciate the comments!
Likewise for you and your channel videos!
thank you for this video, I am 29, I thought i missed the train. Looking at you, my excuse seems lame now
Never too late to get after it!
Fantastic performance 🎶👍👏🎶
Thanks!
Very impressive 👏🏻👏🏻 Bravo!! I'm on the self taught journey too now since 3.5 years 🎹💖 wish you all the best
Thanks! Appreciate the comment
You inspire me!
What’s more impressive is for a newbie. Not a single river flows in you 😂 we done mate. Great music
I did actually learn it last month 😂😂
But not my favourite
Great job! Keep it up ❤️
Keep it up!
Thanks for the motivation!
Recognised the Alfred book sheet music immediately 😂
Amazing progress video
Thanks!
38, second week. :D
That's fantastic and inspiring!
Thanks!
Really good
Amazing ! Do you plan to do a new video for 2 years progress?
Thanks! I did actually do a 2 year video
Great job! this is impressive, keep going 🤗👏🏻👊🏻
Thanks, appreciate it!
Well done! You’ve come a long way in only a year
Thanks much appreciated !
Yes! The first year was my hardest.. I would say I didn't came that far and if I played all very slow and with pauses. I consider his pace and fluent playing most impressive after that time 👏🏻👏🏻🎹💖
Awesome progress!
Thanks!
Wonderful performance 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
Very impressive!
Wow nice! I am decent at playing, but only because I’ve had good teachers. So impressed!
Thanks, appreciate it!
It seems i have the worst learning technique i learned fur Elise main theme on my first week and somehow can play it decently lol.
Trying to learn river flows in you
beautiful!
this is so great, i only started ~1month and you motivate me alot !
Happy to provide some motivation, good luck!
So many self taught here! What an awesome channel 🎹💖 enjoy finding so much other self taught players in a place 🎹💖
Great progress, keep it up!
Thanks!
What an inspiration!😍
Make sure to hone your Solfeggio. While you're waiting for the bus, let a song come into your head and figure out the solfeggio for the melody. I did it when I was ~35. Usually over each beat the melody is moving from one scale degree to another, and that usually gives you the chord. Playing by ear is where it's at IMO.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hi Chris, great progess! I subscribed to you!😃
Thanks! Appreciate it
You're another self taught Player? 🎹💖
@@LadanzaTubeyes!!
Great and inspirational story. Wish you best on your journey. Can you read the sheet along playing?
Thanks! Yes I can read the sheet music, but it takes time to learn and I’ve nowhere near mastered site reading, still takes time
Good job
Thanks!
Have you ever played an instrument? You're way beyond my trajectory, good work.
@@LadanzaTube unfortunately I did not retain anything from growing up, started again from scratch!
Oh my goodness... Well done! You sound like you have been playing for years and yaars already! Wow!
I'm 48 yrs old myself and decided to buy a digital piano three months ago. I have absolutely no musical education and I have realized how hard it is to learn how to play an instrument. But it's also so much fun to learn even the simplest things on it. It's very hard, but rewarding at the same time.
Keep on going! I wish you all the best on your learning journey!
Hey thanks, appreciate the comment! You’re right, it is definitely not easy to learn an instrument, but it’s worth the reward! Best of luck in your learning.
Yes you're so right!! Keep on also in the hard times practice practice practice!! You can do it and it's so worth it 🙏🏻🎹💖
We are almost the same age, I'm only 1 week in. how are you making out?
@@khx73 I'm trying to practice around 30 min a day, 4-6 days a week. Just some very simple songs. I try to keep it fun and don't take too much pressure. Of course it's sometimes frustrating when you can't play something right, but the next day it may go much better again.
Good luck in your learning!
@@khx73 that's great go for it! I'm very curious to see some progress videos then on your channel 🎹💖
