I have adhd and have been getting therapy for years (I'm 18 now and started therapy when I was diagnosed at like 13), mostly to help me figure out how to, as you said, "help my brain work with me" and it's very helpful! They're also there if other things happen and you need someone there to talk to about other things. I highly recommend getting therapy to help you work with your adhd and not against it

I was just diagnosed less than a month ago, and i've been feeling alone because my friends and family have been taking on my diagnosis, "I think I have that too because I like to spend money!". I had an extremely similar experience with getting diagnosed with ADHD and starting stimulants that sent me into a manic psychosis. I stayed up for three days straight planning on becoming a medical doctor. I'm 25 and have been in and out of community college for 7 years so not too likely lol. I had always suspected I had it, but now reflecting on my manic episodes and serious depressive episodes I have complete confirmation. I also started lamotrigine too and it helped almost too much lol. Grateful for you guys and your mental health talks! ✨
Welcome, friend. I was diagnosed... gosh it must be 7-8 years ago now. My (unsolicited) advice is to not think too harshly of them - they are just trying to understand something that they might not have a comparative experience for. What I find interesting for me is that, even after all these years, I still sometimes struggle to believe my diagnosis. Almost as soon as things seem better, in fact. This was great! I especially liked the discussion on stand-up versus live-shows versus youtube videos. Tommy has a certain loud personality he uses in youtube videos that can work well, but it's cool how he's finding with stand-up he needs to be more authentic and real in order to tell jokes that really connect to his audience. And doing that and getting laughs has been a boost in confidence which shows he doesn't need to use his specific persona he's cultivated since he's 16 to be funny. And of course his live show is like a youtube video but live, yet he's still got an audience to bounce off of. Overall, it's nice to see he's pretty grounded and keen to continue being a good creative entertainer.
I find it genuinely confusing when people hate on tommy, i get that some people find him annoying or cringy sometimes, but it’s so obvious that it’s satire and he’s playing characters. Just listen to this pod and you can tell he’s a chill guy.

This is so nice. I actually felt very seen by all the talk about online expectations from the world and peers, and hearing them talk about the difference between that and the way it could be like interacting with actual people in real life. The insight was very interesting. Like, I’m an artist, and I feel this immense pressure, everytime I post a new piece, of not knowing how it is going to be received and like, if it doesn’t get 20 likes in one hour then it’s flopped and my art isn’t going to be picked up by the algorithm next time I post because of it. But I loved what Tommy said about how, like slowly things can be received outside of the internet space. It made me imagine a scenario where I could be just myself, humbly showing off my work to other people, and instead of seeing a view that most likely didn’t leave a like on the post, I can see their face or I can watch someone look at it because spending so so much time on one singular piece like that, and expending so much energy and creativity just for it to be unseen is so disheartening. But maybe I really could have that human connection that I could hold in my hand and put into my next piece… I don’t know, I just found this conversation very interesting and it’s made me think about a lot! So I thought I’d comment ‘cause this feels like a nice grounded little pocket of the internet right now.

I really liked this episode, especially the latter half, talking about male friendships and mental health. Jarvis was a huge reason I sought out therapy and why I am who I am today. So keep doing what you're doing!

I have cyclical vomiting syndrome, and there's an uncontrollable urge to shower when I'm going through an episode, but that's a main symptom. I think the most I showered in 1 day was about 12 times. Unfortunately the episodes of vomiting cause me to break out into a full body sweat that absolutely drenches me, so that with the nausea leaves my only option to be in the shower until the hot water runs out.

I really struggling with that kind of of "I must be at the best possible point with everything" perfectionism, including with my personality. It's something I'm working on and it was a nice little reminder.
