Wonderful site. I first saw Blackpool in 1936, the last time was 2001, the only way I can visit it now is thru sites like this one. Positively wonderful.

Blackpool is still my town. It's where I was borne. Although I now live on Malta I still think of Blackpool as my home.I remember going up to Little Bispham to catch the tram to the centre of Blackpool either for the Tower, or the Pleasure Beech, or even to do some shopping. On some occasions we would go the other way to Fleetwood. I f we did we would usually get on at the 'Crossing' at Anchorsholm.

They were the trams I remember from when I lived in Blackpool during the 1950's and through to the end of the 1960's. Many a time as a youngster with friends during late school holidays would catch a tram from Blackpool central to Fleetwood costing no more than a shilling. Then hop on the ferry and over to Knot End at a further cost of 6d. Remember Knot End was a great place for collecting conkers and would make our way back home via the Ferry and Tram with our pockets jammed full with illicitly obtained conkers. No day tie TV or computer consoles to play games on back then. Such episodes would take up to the best part of the day.

I used to love the noise of the old trams trundling down the promenade. It reminds me when I used to come to Blackpool as a kid back in the 90’s.
I wish the old ones weren’t replaced with those modern ones ☹️

Ahh. Blackpool… I was there in the early 90’s, when it had the atmosphere of a relic, a leftover, kinda. What felt like time machines rumbling up an down the tracks… An then the Illuminations… The "Western Train" and the "Trawler" (the old one), had a ride on Bolton 66 and a "Dreadnought", the driver was really not used to electric (rheostatic) braking, but he was a cool guy anyhow. Showed me how they kept their "cuppa" warm: On top of the resistor box! :D Very happy to see so many of the oldies still running, and that the tramway survived and got modern trams. Still, funny these modern ones have so few doors. Three double doors and two single? Oslo’s new CAF trams will have 6 double doors on each side. Then again, we do have a bigger network… :)
Still, Blackpool is Blackpool! :D ("Excuse me, how long will the next tram be?" "’Bout as long as this one!")

I was there for the 100th anniversary. Living in San Francisco at the time we had one of the 'banana' trams running in the city. I also spent many summers in Blackpool during the early 50's.

When I was in Blackpool I saw an old single deck balloon burst into flames. It was quite scary, but I don't think anyone got hurt.

37:10 - Had the misfortune of witnessing 272 on fire near Cabin. Thankfully, all passengers and crew were swiftly evacuated before the worst could happen. I also recall a guy showing up with a fire extinguisher; good of him to try and help, but he'd brought a water-based extinguisher when it should have been foam (for electrical fires)... A damper on an otherwise good weekend out.

It's really interesting to see the new vehicles designed for the really tight curves of the old tram tracks. In the US we tend to either change the layout or just close the station, like the one under City Hall in New York. And, of course the older vehicles are relatively short, which tends to make them cuter. Those open single level trams seemed very elegant to me. Kind of like a British tram version of a Ferrari barchetta. There's got to be a salt spray problem, that close to the beach. Do they take those open cars, put a good raincoat on the driver, and run them through the washer? Now I've got to look on TripAdvisor and see what there is to do in Blackpool.

By necessity,Blackpool's tram system has always operated in an environment where people need to constantly walk across the tracks to get to and from the beaches. For that reason they were never designed to be a fast mode of transport and people accept that as part of their sedate charm. So why does the new Bombardier class have to look like a 120 mph Eurostar? It could have just as easily been bodied to reflect and be more in keeping with traditional lines.Perhaps then they would have blended in and been more acceptable to people. Incidentally...when you hear the term, 'Heritage runs', being used it's a sure sign that the next stage is a transport museum static display.

crankbv1 as a local the new ones are much more efficient. They get you places quicker and they are cleaner and have more room. There's at least 2 heritage teams on. In the holidays there can be more than 6. The old trams are great but times move on. I'd be really sad I they got rid of them Completely

Glad you are. I will agree this is longer than my normal compilations. Reasons are that this for one was a very special event, the best Blackpool Tramway did during 2016. Secondly, so much action went on that it ended up running over an hour.
Mind you, I'd watch this space. You may just get your wish....
