I appreciate and admire Rupp being private throughout his career. However, I do think it has made him an easy target for people to dislike him and make judgements. From the very little we see, he's a humble and incredible guy who outworks everybody. And there is no way Mike Smith would have taken him on if he was doping.
2:07 wow yes exactly, this is why a lot of runners with pro aspirations come up short, this mindset can take you to the 1% but not push you over the edge to the .01%
AlSal and Galen were a great team going back to his HS days but AlSal came across as the mouthpiece. I dunno, maybe he thought he was protecting Galen but I think American distance running would've benefited to hear more of him in his own words like we did with Hall and Centro, for example. Exposure is good. Look at stars from other sports like the NBA, Tennis or soccer.
For him it was aolut the World Stantard set at at 27:30 I doubt him running that time ever again. Still he is the best long distance runner the US has ever had (silver in London 2012 OlYmpics🤯) Btw good luck at breaking 18 I currently wanna break 15 at 5.000m and work my way down to 8:30 for 3.000m for the U20 World Championship stantard

I feel like we were cheated from getting to know Galen for years. Dude is incredible.
Absolutely right. It’s really interesting to hear him. Hopefully he’ll be open to sharing his perspective more and more as he works with Mike Smith.
Really really wish he was on social media
When you sign a big contract with Nike, you can’t speak out. You’re a corporate athlete and you must act as so or lose your sponsorships
@@Baker4life777 the Ingebrigtsens have a reality tv show in Norway. Mo Farrah was always a character on and off the track. It wasn’t Nike.
@@stupud16 there is more leeway for athletes to express themselves. 10 years ago it was difficult to speak out as a pro athlete

Hes the best runner America has.
Why would that make him a target?
I think working with Salazar makes him the easy target for doping.
@@waterproof4403 best middle and long distance runner be specific.
Oh please
Mike Smith, thank you for encouraging Galen to open up and let fans see his personality. This was the missing piece to his incredible career
First time I heard Galen drop an F-Bomb, or curse at all😂

Awesome result considering the marathon focus.
he just got 8th on the olympics

Why was he bleeding at the end ??
Spiked during the race. Very common in a crowded distance race.

You mean in America right?
Hardly. Also scandal surrounds him. Nike Oregon Project is suspect according to many.

I’m also a fan of Sugar.
Why was he bleeding?
He should drop back down and do some 10ks. He did well at the trials and that was based on marathon training.
Especially since he keeps dropping out in marathons
Funny how the chocolate (gel?) smeared on his knees looks like blood. And he did not have that gel on his knees when he finished.
Blood

I’m sure he cussed when Salazar got busted and took the fall for him!💉💉💉💉
What happened?? I never heard of this?
Another black eye for track athletes. It appears their approach is: I have to dope in order to compete; therefore worth the risk.

Masks…Doh!
Athletes are compelled to dope (cheat) in order to compete. Add fame, fortune, pressures, etc to the mix and there you have it.
Rupp and Farah came back to the pack when they lost their coach. I wonder why? dopers
