- In this episode of FullSizeFord we head into Spokane to check out a V8 swapped 1976 Ford Mustang II Ghia MPG. Kale's got money burning a hole in his pocket and this clean Mustang just might be where it lands. Can this once symbol of the oil crisis muster a burnout with its 302 swap?
I know there is alot of hate towards these Mustangs ,but I love them and this one looks great in red.
@@budgiegamer3314 thank you and thanks for watching!
My sister had a 75 mustang 2 hatchback with a 6 cilinder, I polished the paint so much that the front driver side fender had shiny primer, the car was yellow and black, best of luck with your mustang,I always like those little cars that most people hate.
@@Zelaznogsiul-63 thanks for watching!
I havent seen an escort like that in years! Brings back a lot of memories. My sister drove an escort gt in high school and I drove a mustang II Mach II with a 2.8 v6. Fun little cars!
The MACh 1 was a Mustang ll, not a MAChll.
Sweet ride and a good foundation to build on.
@@robertquartier9379 thank you! Kales pretty stoked about this one.
The 302 was a factory option in the Mustang II. One of my friends had one for years. I kept telling her we ought to put a 351W in it.
@@willymccoy3427 yes, the 302 became available in ‘75 in the II’s second year of production. That Windsor would be shoehorned in there! Would be cool for sure!
Cool little car
@@Jstme303 thanks!
Love my II
the Pinto based cars were all good drivers, no shame needed.
@@20CentMotors Kale is actually pretty proud of this one, can’t wait to start driving it! Thanks for watching!
So being a Class A truck driver.... I've driven past that Arby's many times. I used to drive a 378 Peterbilt for Northern Refrigerated Transport. I've always been told that Arby's is the original location. Very nice Mustang 2.
@@JasonMyers-c6z very cool!
fantastic job. a little larger wheel and tire package on it and that thing would look killer!
@@kevsta67 agreed! I don’t think the 195/70R-13’s are even available anymore.
@FullSizeFord yeah, the car would look better with a set of 14" tires and wheels although Universal Tire still has 13's.
It is interesting, for 1974 the Mustang went to the smaller platform. But the Mercury Cougar, that had been built on the mustang platform went to the midsize platform (ie Thunderbird, Torino) and was also a sales success.
@@badcatt-the-cougar-guy-7219 maybe since Mercury had the Capri they didn’t feel they needed another small car.
@@FullSizeFord Maybe, I had a 72 Capri, not the same class as a Mustang/Cougar. It was a fun little car.
The Capri and Capri ll was FORDS answer to the Mustang in the European markets and was a smash hit for many years.
I did not know your boy was into these Mustang IIs!?! Same boy that was with you when you dropped off the 55? I have 2 of these, a Cobra and a Fastback in Cobra dress. Well one is suppose to be my son's, the Cobra, but yeah i would have showed them to ya when you were here!
I've probably had 15 or so of these over the years. Not many people liked them so it made them cheap and easily accessible for quite some time. Last 10 years or so they've gotten really popular. Lots of idiosyncrasies with these cars... especially the V8 cars. It's one of the only Ford vehicles where the V8 was made to fit the car rather then the car built to house the V8. So V8 swapped in ones, I'm always particular of.
@9:20 Which i can already see, the power steering bracketry is a mess... Alternator bracket looks like its missing, and that appears to be an early '75/'76 Mustang II water pump pulley, different from a regular car/truck 302 water pump pulley. Fuel Filter is on backwards too.... lol
So I'm guessing he bought it??? NICE!
@11:09 So believe it or not, 'some' 4 bangers did come with the 8" rear but fairly sure this was a swap job based on the highly improper rear shackles. The spring eyes, even rearward, are huge bushings. The Mr Gasket extend-o shackles just don't work. Plus... the MPG wouldn't have a rear sway bar. Only cars with the "Handling package" had rear sway bars such as Mach 1s and Cobras. that totally looks like a factory rear sway bar, mounting plates, and 8" rear. May be a limited slip? Quite a few had them. Did it lay 2 patches @12:50 ???
Well good for Kale! Glad he's got himself a clean little II. I played with these from about '96 till about 2010ish.. Had lots of fun with them. I still have mine, the 2nd one I ever bought. My very 1st II was a '78 Cobra II v6 4 speed T-Top black/Black car. Loved that car.... wish i never got rid of it.
@@OlysGarage haha yes same kid, he would have loved to check those out. Thanks for all the info, I had no idea that you were a Mustang II guru! I don’t know much about them.
I love these
In 2026 Route 66 celebrates its 100-centennial celebration. It would be a shame if this car couldn't make the cruise.
I always thought that these mustangs were a perfect candidate for the 4.3L V6....
@@longlost8424 the Chevy 4.3?
Why? Just drop in a 302. Less work and more power
The 4.3 was a GARBAGE boat anchor. Most unreliable engine gm never built. 302 is the only way to go short of a 351 or a big block FE.
Id loose the ghia window flaps
Hey, I was wondering if a 1977 Mustang ii Ghia would be a good daily driver for my first car?
