Had a dropped '84 Blazer with 2 CV 12's in a perfect ported box that made the roof flex and bounce a quarter off from center in 3 bass hits from this one back in that day :)
*** BINGO!!! *** I have this on cassette (TDK D90) and didn't get the artist or title but just searched for "Just the the DJ a Break" and got here. Now, where's my BMX & ghetto blaster?
I was thinking the same thing. This jam was put together perfectly. The beats combined with the samples. This jam is underplayed too. Signed, Class of '85
only found out about this track from a tutorial from producer Lu Diaz, This track changed his life in music!! 3 Golden Rules for Low End Hip Hop Mixing | Lu Diaz
Remember bumping this back in high school in my old honda with cerwin vega 12's and just a couple hundred watts of pure class-A power...damn those ported cabinets were big...but those dynamix tracks played so deeepppp on em! Much respect also goes to Bass 305 and Techmaster PEB :0))
Been looking for more music to listen to. Somehow stumbled onto this while looking for post hardcore bands. This wasn't what I was looking for...but I love it! I think I've just discovered a new type of music to jam to!
Awesome!!! I am sitting here at my computer searching some old school stuff because I just pulled this cassette out of my closet TODAY! "Dynamix II - The Album" with bonus track "Move Your Feet" I even have the Return of the Bass That Ate Miami, Meggotron, and a few other bass tapes. (Bass Boy, DJ Magic Mike and a few others)
I used to drop this in my djing days must have been about 21/22 when it was out - I'd been struggling for decent stuff to play from about 1985 as electro had sort of started to disappear the old jazz-funk was well and truly dead but then this at the start of 1987 and the early house that had started to get big over here in England at the same time sort of kicked things off again.
Yooooo... I made a beat with this 808 drum pattern... I had it in my head since childhood and never realized it was this song I remember from way way back.... hahah so dope....
man I use to tear a dance floor up with this one! and WITH OUT the bumping and grinding...just sweep the dang dance floor up with some serious movessssssssss...lmbo!! wow the memories..
Back in the late 80's early 90's Philadelphia's WDAS 105.3 live saturday night DJ Lawrence Lavon used to use this as a transition...One word HOT!!! It took me over 20 years with no title to find this. Still has the same effect now as then.
I had this on cassette, recorded off the radio. The mix was only slightly different. I remember, even back then, at 14, feeling really cool that I liked music like this. I didn't have a BMX though. :-(
JC! I haven't heard this since 1988!... We used this song to measure the BOOM in each others systems. When that BASS kicked in either you were a king or it was back to the drawing board!
Thanks man, you're awesome! Sure is Ronnie, people need to start keeping a running list of these sample spots for these old sample heavy tracks when they post for posterity.
+J.J. J Well it isn't is it as its our (the English's) language and if you (Americans)don't like it get your own language and stop messing our's up with your wrong spellings.
dayuuummm!! Now i finally get to see that someone else has this record besides me...the other side would be George of the Jungle..dang I was in 8th or 9th grade when I first heard them... along with Gucci Crew and Tech Master P.E.B, Nemesis, along with Rodney-O's Everlasting Bass...Wow good memories... Thanx for the post
yez sir flashback fo sho sittin on 13x7 roadster whire wheels 175/50 low profile tires on thoze rimz of course..the year was 1998 and i was 17 when my momz bought me a 96 hyundai elantra..3 twelve inch pioneers and a 2000 watt amp..military drive was the cruising strip in san antonio.
@guerrero1106 at 2:41 that's someone cutting up what sounds like Planet Rock then there is a sample of "And the Beat Goes on" by The Whispers, a cool old school jam.

Right there with you, had 88 honda lowered civic with entire hatch full of subs.

"its not hip hop, ITS ELECTRO!!!!!" - shaun of the dead
Yes let's get our definitions correct. Remember the electro compilation LPs back in the day?
True, but electro is a sub-componet of hip-hop
