    A quick update from this end! Since the the LR4 is up for sale I can't really travel or do much far away from the garage I have it stored in case of a sell/showing happening. But been using the Series 3 as my daily going back and forth between jobs, small trips and other day to day tasks.
    As much as I do love the LR4, the simplicity of the new platform is really refreshing. Mechanically there is some small, and one big thing to address with the S3. But apart from that it's behaving very nicely.
    Once the Discovery is sold, I'm heading back on the road and will be able to once again create much more frequently! As of now, I'm stuck with the bills for two cars and kinda limited because of that.
    Thanks for watching,
    K

    I really get this. I just sold a 2006 GX470(Prado) and bought a 1994 Land Cruiser 80. While not as old or basic as this it doesn't have airbags, or ABS or backup camera or any of the amenities that the other vehicle had. But I'm refreshed by it and building it the way I want.
    Sometimes I do wish I had bought an older 60 series Land Cruiser which is more similar to the experience with this Land Rover, but I think in the end I'll be happy with the 80. Especially after I finish fixing mechanical issues. I've still got an injector with some issues, and I've already put way more in the engish money wise than I wanted. And I need to sort suspension. But other that than I think it's a vehicle that is ready to go just about anywhere.

    It’s a beautiful old Landrover for sure, and I know you will make it even better. I’m really interested in how you are going to do the internal build and make it winterproof, and warm and comfortable enough to cope with winter in Norway! I was driving an old canvas top Landrover similar to this in Andalsnes in the winter of 1990 with the marines and we had to lag the roof with blankets and a roll of felt to keep any warmth in at all 🤣

    BTW "Sealed for life" is a Manufacturer misnomer.
    The transmission with its original fluid will outlast the warranty period without service, and therefore does not have a scheduled service interval as per manufacturer.
    Frankly, its a load of BS and results in the early death of a lot of transmissions.
    ZF, the manufacturer of the transmission in the Disco 4, have their own recommended service schedule of 80,000km

    This type of light fittings is typical for UK ex MOD Land Rovers. Combined with the fact it is Petrol and LHD i'm almost certain it was an Ex Rhine vehicle AKA a car stationed in Germany. I've seen these multiple times at our shop and worked on them. The Dutch ex Army LRs are very different and all Diesel powered. 2.25 petrol is the best engine and will run forever.
    Have a look at an electronic ignition,not a cheap conversion set since the original distributers suck. Have a look at 123 Ignition Systems. We fitted them at my work numerous times and their fantastic with great support. No cheap made crap. Best money spend.
    Have fun with the 109"

    • @kasperhoglund
      @kasperhoglund  9 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers! Might have gotten some wrong info from previous owners. It did at least come from NL to Norway back in 2014. And served in the Balkan war for NATO.
      Also been trough some rounds of part swaps. The engine in this is a 2.25 from a Norwegian ex mill that served here. And has sadly a crack in the block due to getting stored over a cold winter with bad coolant a few years back.
      First plan was to swap it for something.. but I’m really starting to like it (if I don’t mind the fuel bill!)
      So current thought is to keep this running for a while, and look for a similar replacement. And spend some money on ignition on that 👍

    • @thesandero2454
      @thesandero2454 9 месяцев назад

      There is a fair chance it did came from The Netherlands since a lot of these ex UK demobbed Land Rovers ended up here. Being LHD was a big part in that. I've seen it myself because i'm Dutch and working on LRs here for over 20 years. The fuel consumption is horrible,yeah. Almost as bad as the 3.5 V8 Stage One 109. Overhere people put 200 and some 300 TDIs in them. Thing it to keep the weight of your build as low as possible since that is what causing the biggest problems.
      That said,a good 2.25 petrol that it properly serviced and tuned runs like clock work. These engines are pretty much bulletproof,unlike the Diesel 2.25. That's horrible.😅
      If you keep this engine,go for a 123 ignition. It's a Dutch company specialised in this.

    Others already mentioned it, costs and simplicity…
    The lightbulb is the perfect example…
    Any car made in the last twenty years made it more and more impossible to do anything yourself, on purpose.
    The Industrie wants to make money with selling the car AND the upkeep…
    What one gives up, in exchange is a little comfort and maybe speed and THAT is a price I’m willing to pay.
    Besides…
    Here in Germany 🇩🇪 I had the good fortune to buy a 110 HT model that was already registered as a camper, wich keeps costs DOWN…
    I could load up to ONE TON into the vehicle AND/OR could pull 3,5 Tons…
    Cranking the windows myself and not goin 180 km/h on the Autobahn, was/is a good trade 😂

    The old engine sounds lovely man!! I have a few questions about it :)
    How is it to have a gas tank, quite litterly in the interior. Are you scared of spilling?
    What do you think of the performance? Like do you find it to be miserably slow or do you not mind it?
    You replaced the headlight for visibility, but I wonder how much the tire on the hood impedes visibility.
    And lastly somthing i like to speak about :) How's the suspension?

    • @kasperhoglund
      @kasperhoglund  9 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers!
      The two gas tanks are under the car. But you access them through a metal panel under the seat. Same as you can in all defenders to access the top of the gear box ect.
      The tanks has rubber seals and is as tight as any other tank. If you spill, it would run out under the car. Not inside it👍
      It’s slow, and weak. But not terrible. Just makes you more cautious about weight and changes the driving style a lot. Doesn’t hold up well up hill in high speed mountain inclines.
      The tire only blocks the top part of the right hand corner of the hood. Kinda similar to how your nose is always in your field of view, but you never think about it 🤝

    • @kasperhoglund

    Wait … the gas tanks under the drivers seat?

      @kasperhoglund  9 месяцев назад

      Actually one under each seat and a manual flip valve to choose what tank to run. It’s a ex military vehicle, so it’s a bit different than the civilian model.
      Can fill the tank whilst driving from a Jerry can, and one tank can get punctured while still running the other one.
      Unnecessary for my use, but that’s at least the reason 😅

    Too wide tire on the hood. Wider than which are under.

      It’s exactly the same size mate. It’s from the other set of rims for it 👍

    i'm surprised ... these old models look like tin cans compared to the discovery ... you're not driving to mongolia to need basic parts ...

    You mad man! I used to drive Series Land Rovers, whilst they look great (apart form the terrible colour you have painted it, there are so many nice Land Rover colours what were you thinking?) they are terribly uncomfortable to drive, un-economical, not as good off road as the LR4, and if you hit any object above 40mph that is solid its instant death!
