I spent about 40 hours animating and about 10 hours editing. That's not including the time it took to build the set! ALL of the set in this animation was made from scratch after finding out about the contest (with the exception of 2 small buildings that are barely shown)! 1819 frames taken at 15 fps using the Stop Motion Studio Pro app on my phone. The Cityville City theme was made on GarageBand along with the last song that was played during the sentimental speech. The rest of the music I got here

I had just finished up my college semester and was getting ready to enjoy a 2 week break before my summer semester when I watched this video…

And then BAM! My relaxed, meaningless break turned into a hard core animation grind! I have never built a city set before so at first I was not sure how it would turn out. I had to start from scratch. Luckily, I had recently received a BrickLink order which greatly helped. I also found a nice way to fill the background with miniature buildings. I was only able to create about 5 kind-of full scale buildings. So, after a long weekend of frantically building a city set, I was ready to start animating. 2 weeks were given to complete the entry for the contest which was perfectly timed for my break, however I was going to be on vacation for the second week. So I had to create my entry in 1 week! I planned to edit sound on vacation. I had so much fun animating this! I barely got it done before I had to leave.
I am pretty happy with how this animation turned out over all! I am still experimenting with animations that have dialogue to tell a story. This one I got my family to voice act in! As I am sure you can tell, my sound quality is still terrible! I would have liked to spend more time on the sound quality for this one but I ran out of time. I am also hoping to switch to Dragon Frame soon, which should increase sound quality for future animations, however I haven't had much time to learn a new program. I was not sure exactly how to end the animation. I was originally going to have the camera zoom awkwardly close to Lego loftys face and then transition back to the wide shot of the micro city but after showing my family and friends almost everyone wanted the dragon to come back! So that's what I did. I still think the ending was kind of inconclusive, but it definitely sticks to the comedic aspect.

honestly, you have some of the best stop motion content i have ever seen, even above some of the big names. everything about this films is insanely well done, from movement, to set design and masking., it's just mind-blowing
This is amazing! I love how you can capture Lego’s whimsical and cartoonish feel with there limited articulation. And THOSE PRACTICAL EFFECTS LOOK SO good! The captain Guy fight scene was great and the civilians throwing random stuff at the dragon was hilarious. Is it just me or does this have some strong benefactor vibes?
The dragon just looks so done when everyone is throwing stuff at him, I love it.

Haha I love this so much. Super stupidly funny and well done. Lots of little things to enjoy. Really nice set design, good use of perspectives for size and I love this one part at 2:00 when they are all throwing stuff and the officer goes to shoot his gun but just throws it instead. Great stuff :)

This is one of the greatest stop motions I have ever seen, with all the humor and action of a masterpiece. I can't imagine how you made the dragon move so smooth with his clickable joints. I animated one of those dragons and the movement came out so choppy. How did you do it?
