How wonderful to take part in this at 15 years old, as Alma is here. And she composed the waltz. In one video she says she has to go to her dancing lesson. This must be what she was learning - the waltz. Now I see why the Deutscher family moved to Vienna, to give their daughters this lovely ball.
I am pretty sure the dancing lessons include all ballroom and latin dances, not just a waltz. We share the same tradition of dancing lessons for teenagers, dating back to the Austro-Hungerian Empire with Austria.
The sheer number of couples makes it difficult to dance gracefully. And a lot of the graceful motion is in the gown and how it swirls as the girl moves. In a later video of Alma dancing with 4 couples, they have much more room in which to move and perform gracefully.
How beautiful and elegant .It must have been great fun !All look so lovely and so much work obviously gone into this with the dancing and outfits . Im sure it must have taken eveyone a while to learn as it would not be easy at all .Always wonder how people dont get motion sick because of all the spinning . But very beautiful and what a memory to have from Vienna !
Just after :48 she (her hair is in a bun and there are what appear to be flowers around it) and her partner (short and dark haired with glasses ) enter from the left side of the screen in the front row...when they stop to bow at :57, she turns and he bows to listen to a comment she makes? and they are on the far right at the bottom/front of the screen...her profile is unmistakeable. ☺️
Of course this is high society. Most of these young people are privileged and come from privileged families. Alma however although she is the most highly privileged of them all, sincerely cares about humanity and those who are not as privileged as she is.
@Violin Accordion There are things I do not want to discuss publicly over the internet. I would however like to discuss with you privately. Why? You have provided some objective information and posed significant questions, but I know that any discussion about this will provoke severe reactions. My email is pbudarick@adam.com.au. I am not going to be rude to you. I will share with you my view about this "phenomenon" (as I call it) and I am very interested in your understanding of this. I am a composer of music and I have studied for 50 years all kinds of different music including Xenakis, Penderecki and many others. I come from a severely underprivileged, deprived, abusive background. Therefore if I may say so, I think I know what you are "on about". Anyway it is a kindly invitation to you. I don't want to score any points. I only want to understand this phenomenon better.
elmayer.at/en/dance-classes/youth/ those were the schedules for debutant classes, the new fee this year is € 420 per person all inclusive for your lessons running from autumn until summer. if that fee is your definition of rich, you and family are not able to think about gown or men's attire also and should refrain from any thought of a debutant ball for your very own sake :( or you learn waltz elsewhere and attend as a visitor for much less, adults €100 students for € 30, table fee on top if you want one. for comparison: vienna opera ball is € 315 for visitors, €120 for debutants (but only ~150 couples allowed)
waltz is sometimes nauseating, as your brain is confused by the fast moving background. so the trick is to stare at something in the far background and your dance partner is unfortunately not the perfect target for that exercise. ;)
nope :) elmayer dance school would have drilled you into shape OR you would have left the debutant class some time ago and mingled with the audience instead. it might sound harsh, but the earlier opening choreography demanded utter perfection, this vid is about the easy part. :D and no sweat: it is not a shame if vienna waltz is not meant for your feet, it happens more often than not. sometimes it is fixed by training and sometimes not. ;)
Dancing in circles is what the Viennese waltz is all about. Don't forget that this is one of the world's foremost dancing schools. I'm sure they've got it right.
@@shermansmart4369 It isn't a question of being right or wrong; it is the lack of finesse. But this is not a particularly smart ball, as you can judge by the informal attire.
@@MildlyRabid nope sorry. :D the vid is just about the waltz before "Alles Walzer" command, but those _gangly teens_ performed a most difficult choreographie earlier, all 320 couples together and changing partners multiple times at the end. they were drilled for hours upon hours by Elmayer school; those choreos demand utter perfection. if you lack talent here, elmayer ball is the wrong place for you, at least as a debutant. :D ruclips.net/video/7IYZtxqKdO8/видео.html just my guess: you would be wrong _at any ball_ as debutant, as vienna balls mean serious business regarding opening choreographies. train you must ! :D
but vienna waltz IS the standard for waltz ? :) you noticed the "other" couples from the audience bumping into the already waltzing debutants ? yes they were to slow, you have to move with the crowd and you better get accustomed to left turn waltz instead of right turns. the audience couple (lady in red dress) at 2:40 and following seconds nailed it perfectly; move and waltz, no brakes for nothing and have fun. ;)

yes this is a human positive delightful story in this cruel world

so wunderschön die Alma hier tanzen zu sehen! und zwar auf ihrer musik! 😀
Bei welcher Minute kann man sie sehen? Irgendwie ist mein Bild verschwommen
Beautiful event, to the sound of even more beautiful music. Alma adorable.
yes -she goes her way for sure-this event has a great tradition
Alma is in the lower right corner of the video at 1:13.
This is so beautiful! And the music is PHENOMENAL!
and Johann Strauss would enjoy!
I have spotted Alma Deutscher dancing in there.
Yes, I just spotted her too 😊
I can’t spot her. Where is she?
Is that her at the bottom at 0:48?
@@mkalsterboy1234 looks like it.
I think she has white flowers in her hair in the back
3:05 she starts coming into frame wearing a Maroon gown. Good that she is enjoying her time dancing!
No that is not correct
@@peterbudarick9836 I agree. I am sure you spotted her correctly. Alma's partner looks like Harry Potter.
She actually looks directly at the camera during the applause before the Alles walzer instruction is given. She is wearing white.
@@StuartSimon so, 1:04 - 1:16 in front of the lady applauding?

I have no idea but is this some sort of weird ritual getting into the rich/noble man club of Vienna stuff.

Violin Accordion her music is a gift to all mankind ...

That wasn't very good waltzing; they were just going round in circles.

They’re also a large group of gangly teens. Not everyone in there is a talented dancer; some were just invited. Plus space constraints are hard.

rivenoak Thanks for the correction! That was cool to watch
The most cringy, out-of-phase stuff I've seen in a while, Eurovision included
What a horrible dance. They were moving way too, fast. They may dance like that in Vienna, but certainly no place else.

I did it once. It is rather dizzying but lots of fun. It helps to have an experienced partner.
God what dreadful music and atmosphere..
