I use those pinions with the double grub screws to make a center spool for my rustler 4x4. I put a grub pin in and it goes right through the hole in the shaft.
You're right, the cover does fit! I think the 32p gears I used were off a Traxxas Jato or something. No cover for me. Hasn't been an issue beside the occasional pebble stuck in the spur and a lot more dust getting to the bearing behind it.
To prevent a lot of buyers remorse it would be really cool if you made a video mainly targeted at first time, 2 Wheel Dr. cheap/buyers and make a video of absolute must have upgrades. I’m sure you have had a lot of trial and error on what aftermarket parts and upgrades have worked great and what ones have been a complete waste of money. It might help a lot of folks out such as myself lol.
Yep, just verified. The 272r transmission has no issues with cover going back on. Thank you. I did run into a slight issue. If you are running a hobbywing maxx10 combo, motor is a 550 size, there is little to no room for adjust gear mesh. Luckily I got it on and mesh is just right, but I'd suggest getting the 56 or 54 tooth spur from hot racing if running the hobbywing max10 combo.
Glad you found it helpful! Yeah I actually ended up gearing mine down…but if you had to…you could use a dremel and make the motor mount slot wider so you could push the motor further from the spur gear and get the mesh set right..
Need some help please! I have everything done to my 2wd slash, but it keeps overheating due to the spur gear and pinion gear I’m running! What’s the best setup that doesn’t produce much heat in your slash? It’s 100 degrees today in Memphis Tennessee which isn’t helping much either 😔
Know some like to keep the slash with stock size wheels/tires. I put on Traxxas Talons EXT 2.8 on mine when i run 3s, great improvement on stability. Should try it sometime since yours is built up. May like it. May make a great video too.
I put on split washers for motor mount screws And never need those gear adapters they sell. Keeps the screw from Backing out and shifting the motor which strips the gears
Would you say I should get this gears even though I'm still running the brushed stock motor in my Slash 2wd ?? Honestly I just want it but idk why lol 😅
Yeah I got hoplex gears on Amazon. 32p 54t spur and 15t pinion. I have a bigger pinion that I might try because the slipper slutch spins when I take off and has slowish acceleration. It takes off but I can hear the brushed 2wd motor
@@RCKnockout should I just get the brushless system right now? I got a used truck from 5 years ago and it worked great until I swapped gears. But I want it to do about 45mph. Do I need a brushless 3s system?
now your talking!!!!! a very good upgrade in my book!!! you might wanna put some washers on the screws that are holding the motor in just from the cameras view it looks like they might slip possibly..
So the 272r transmission. Did the transmission gear cover go right back with no issues? Just got a hobby wing setup with a 5mm shaft so I need to go 32 pitch
Yeah it went right on…the Drag Slash transmission cover is slightly different from the regular 272 cover though…I think it’s just different the way it mounts up
I got the 60T/18T hot racing spur and pinion, but I cant get it to fit on my 2wd slash even though it says it should fit. Do you have a video showing the install on the stock transmission? Do I need to dermal out the sway?
If you are running into the same problem I am (the spur and pinion teeth are not close), it's because we need an adapter that we don't have on a stock 2wd, RPM sells a gearbox housing with it.
I bought all the parts but didn’t realize I can’t run these upgrades on the stock transmission and Ik you said yours is the 272 drag slash transmission but there are so many options on Amazon can you lead me in the correct direction?
I use those pinions with the double grub screws to make a center spool for my rustler 4x4. I put a grub pin in and it goes right through the hole in the shaft.
Nice! I’m sure it works well

I gotcha…..yeah I didn’t have any problems so I was wondering if you were using some different gears

@@RCKnockout thank you in advance 😆
Love the 2wd platform. So many different options.
For sure!

@@RCKnockout the motor can is as far back as the case will allow. It's why I also ordered a 54t spur and a 15 and 17 pinion, just for options.

I haven’t exactly figured that out……I can tell you this gearing is too high for bashing in heat….I had a lot of limp mode issues

May make a great video too.
I have run 2.8 tires before….they were paddle tires though…..didn’t really like the look tbh
Yo something I noticed place washers under your motor mount screw’s and and have it snug fit might help
Maybe…..it is on a metal mount though…..the previous trans was plastic which I think was more susceptible to sliding
@@RCKnockout I say this so that the screw’s have more suffice area and a wider sense of tension especially since it’s metal.
@@joshuapacman that makes sense….maybe I should do that then

Another great vid. I just subscribed and look forward to seeing more HR content ;)
Appreciate it!
Do y’all make the black front shock tower for 2wd Traxxas still??
Great video keep up the good work.
Thanks! I appreciate it!

No I wouldn’t recommend it with the brushed system

Yeah for sure…..I’ve been running it that way for awhile…..haven’t had any issues
@@RCKnockout good!
I'm thinking about switching to this but will it affect acceleration and speed? Will it make the motor hot for bashing and speed runs?
Yeah it’ll definitely change the top speed and it’ll probably make the machine run a bit hotter too
Thanks a Million!!
You’re welcome!
No worries we have a cat. Hair gets every were
I know, right lol
So the 272r transmission. Did the transmission gear cover go right back with no issues? Just got a hobby wing setup with a 5mm shaft so I need to go 32 pitch

@@thelurker9472 nice man! It should go together pretty easily 😉👍
are these gears though ? i bought a 50 tooth for a 2200kv setup
how are these gears holding up ??
They’re holding up well!
I got the 60T/18T hot racing spur and pinion, but I cant get it to fit on my 2wd slash even though it says it should fit. Do you have a video showing the install on the stock transmission? Do I need to dermal out the sway?
You might have to dremel to make it work I’m not sure….I run the 18/58 fine but that is also with the Drag Slash Trans
If you are running into the same problem I am (the spur and pinion teeth are not close), it's because we need an adapter that we don't have on a stock 2wd, RPM sells a gearbox housing with it.
How has the 32 pitch metal to metal gears work for you any issues?
It works well…the esc and motor ran hotter after switching to the 32p gears though
@@RCKnockout check the ratio of what it is now and what it was before might be over the limit

Even with the stock trans it should mount up….what kind of issue are you running into?
When I mounted up the gears they were hitting the plastic on the back and wasn’t touching the rotor thing (idk what it’s called exactly)
@@trentondivins3541 the spur gear was touching the transmission?
@@RCKnockout no the bigger gear was touching the back side of the transmission the plastic part
@@trentondivins3541 yeah it shouldn’t be doing that…it should be a direct fit with the stock transmission
hi what biggest size pinion u can use with this spur gear ? cheers
The motor is slid nearly all the way with the 18t…..so you wouldn’t fit a much bigger pinion than that
ok i see in the photo looks tight. what sort of gearing u think for speed runs? i want run it on 4s @@RCKnockout
@@jimmymorris8032 I don’t know…never done speed runs with mine…it all will depend on your power system too

That’s a bummer….sometimes aftermarket parts don’t fit with one another
dude the theoretical top speed on a 13000kv (carpet race motor) is 80 mph 🤣🤣🤣
These come in like mod1’s compared to 32p gears Nolan 🤣🤣🤣🫣oh my oh my now your able to put power down for longer I guess🤣
Yeah the 32p gears should be pretty hard to strip
