After searching for this hot commodity of a game for nearly 8 months, I finally was able to purchase the retail (hobby) version. We played it once, and all three players rated it as 9 or 10. Game mechanics and replay ability look fantastic. However, I will say the font size of some iconography and print on some components, such as corporate player cards is ridiculously small. We actually used magnifiers at times to see it, since this was our first play. I’m not sure if the deluxe version has better font size.
The Deluxe version has more planets and corporation boards, plastic meteors and lifepods, a wash on the rovers, better GameTrayz inserts, and a bigger first player token
Thanks! Honestly this looks as good as the deluxe, and I see no reason to pay more. I was worried the retail version would be significantly more crappy. The wooden components look great, I love the multi layer boards to hold cubes, lazy susan works (neither version has a lid to hold components so meh), and as for the extra planets and corporations... I've yet to play a game enough to reach the point where I need more content than the base game has, so I'm not terribly worried. I would be EXTREMELY surprised to see my friends clamoring for more varied planets 😛 With this and The Isle of Cats I plan to acquire, I'll be well equipped in polyomino fun for a while. 😀
That was the original plan. It was also going to have some awful cardboard SUSAN that didn't look like it would work very well. This Hobby Edition is a much better idea. I don't miss any of the bits from the Deluxe version.
@@JustGotPlayed I don't mind not having the extra trays but the fact that they didn't throw in a couple of plastic bags for the indicators, biosmass patches and the cards is beyond stupid.
@@JustGotPlayed yeh, I saw it a couple months back at my local game store before I knew too much about it and it’s gone now. Wasn’t sure if it was retail or just surplus kickstarters. Excited for the next printing. Also excited the retail has the lazy Susan. Most channels keep saying that’s only in the deluxe edition, which now seems incorrect.
Thanks! It still has multi-layer player boards and asymmetric corporations and planets, so that's great.
Yeah, I am really happy with the quality of this edition

I'm pretty sure the deluxe printing is exactly the same. But glad you enjoyed the game! It has been a big hit around here too.
Thanks! I just pledged to get the deluxe edition in their new kickstarter!
Cool, that means you will get the cover for the lazy susan too!
Nice review !
However, it seems to have all the components from the KS Deluxe version ? Or some deluxe components are missing ?

The „wash“ is a bad joke though.

I agree, the retail version is great and feel no need to get anything that is "more deluxe."
This actually is much better than i expected!! I thought retail wasnt going to have the rover minis or the triple layer boards

I was sad that the hobby edition didn’t have the other gametrayz for all the other components.
While those are nice, I actually don't find myself missing them

When’s this actually available at retail?
I bought it at retail in the US, but it sold out pretty quickly. There is another print run on the way, but not sure when.

@@oneysnyder2116 I saw some at my local store this week. Almost out again.
@@nihlify dang -I can’t find it locally and it still looks like it’s preorder everywhere. Is local in the US or elsewhere?
