Great Video. Wish I would have watched this before I bought my fist backhoe. I sold it 3 months after I bought it. This time I will have more information thanks to this video
Lot of good practical info. Parts availability is one of the top bullets. Also like your phrase, "know what you have to spend and then know how much your going to have to spend." Purchase price is kinda like the admission price. Count on at least changing all fluids, filters, and tackling the biggest issues. I think you covered all the bases. I've been looking for a couple of years. Finally bought one (John Deere 310) this weekend. It has a bent outrigger rod which is causing a pretty major leak. Took the rod out today and am in the middle of fixing it.
I see a big demand for short time forklift usage on job sites, if i had a vending service, (credit card or cash collection)? a used telescoping lift could make $500.00 everyday, i will use your list to buy with confidence & hope for the best (thank-you-sir)
Minimal slop, plenty of power, and defiantly parts availability. If your a first time buyer with zero operating experience, you need to find some one with experience in both to go with you.
Number 1: Make sure you know where to get hydraulic hoses made! I took a gamble on mine. 1960 JD 440ID that was sitting in the weeds at a dealer with water in the oil. Wiring was a mess. Hydraulic oil leaked everywhere. But the price was right and turns out its a collectable as well. Engine thankfully was an easy fix but I should have just replaced every hose from the start. Its a good runner now, just needed some TLC and it's great for the 20-25 hours it'll see every year.
In my area, with older backhoes, case or John Deere is the way to go... I bought a JD 410 ... using it around the sawmill, and on the farm... working out well... thanks for the tips brother.. GOD bless
Helpful info. Thanks. Did you replace the engine in a shop with a hoist? How long did it take you to get it all put back together? I'm starting to look for a used backhoe now. I appreciate the great info.
I did the engine and clutch under a 10 ton hoist, and similar to a tractor split, blocked the rear half and used the hoist to support the front. I then used tractor forks to chain the block up and out. It took several weeks due to having to order and replace worn parts as I worked through the process. I ended up with a new clutch/pressure plate/through out bearing, and various other new pieces. It was quite a process. Best of luck on your search and enjoy the many vids of my backhoe being used here on the farm👍
I've been looking at backhoes for the last several months and had narrowed it down to getting a case 580 series. Your video has enlightened me to a couple of issues and I may rethink some things. Sounds like we are operating under a similar budget with the same mindset. I don't mind working on something as long as it is functional long term afterwards. Thanks for such an informational video. Subscribing for future helpful tips.
Really really appreciate this video man. I already made my decision One last question you said something about clutch The one I’m looking has a stick handle on the floor with 4 speed then has a small shifter to go back and forth But it doesn’t have like something that you push and then realize slowly it just the small shifter handle close to the steering wheel To make it easy in the floor is only a gas and brakes So that’s the one you recommended Or is the one with gas brakes and clutch??? Thanks in advance
I think you’re describing the I wouldn’t recommend. That is a shuttle shift or e-shift. I recommend a true clutch/throughout/pedal that is released slowly by the operator. It’s simple and easy to work on/fix. Where I’ve had problems with the shuttle shift type. I may have got a bad one but I’d rather have something I understand and know how to work on. True traditional clutch with a pedal
@@Man-Time Ok buddy I got it that happened when i bought the mahindra tractor they offer me a hydrostatic and I don’t like it because they said something about it goes by hydraulic And I said no I want shuttle shifter with the clutch and that’s the one I have what happens is that I thought that the hydrostatic were only recent models but I understand now I'm going to keep looking for the right one like the one I have Thanks buddy for time.
Great Video Sir...kindly help , I have a 428C Cat backhoe which does not engage in 4 wheel drive..Is there an inside switch that is connected to communicate to the Front Wheels to engage in 4wheel drive?
I bought the cheapest one I found. Right now there is an old Case for sale for $5000 in my area that runs. Probably easier to find in rural areas like mine with large (100+) acre lots. None of my equipment is for sale if that’s what you’re asking. If you are looking to buy one use the tips in this video and best of luck👍
I got it for free after doing some chores for a neighbor. But I think it is a discontinued harbor freight kit. I screwed sheet metal to the top. They have some similar ones still available
No thanks to way over-engineered contraptions with ridiculously priced parts. Friends BMW needed wiper blades you could not buy generic from the store for only $200 apiece. True master ripoff artists.

Glad it helped! I worked hard to try and think of everything I do when looking for equipment.

Yes! I don’t know if I touched on that, but many of my machines were in that same boat. I’ve talked about it in other videos but it’s so true!

Sorry never worked with that machine
After you buy one you know what you should have looked for.

Hi, where can I buy one of the carports you and the backhoe are under in this video? Seems like it would be a decent price...
I got it for free after doing some chores for a neighbor. But I think it is a discontinued harbor freight kit. I screwed sheet metal to the top. They have some similar ones still available
@@Man-Time 👍 Thanks!
Why ruin your backhoe digging stumps when you can rent a grinder
I feel so sad for you americans who dont understand german. You will never get advice from true engineering masters.
