I so enjoy every recycle review so they are worth waiting for. The spreadsheet is an amazing resource and you are a real treasure to our community. You shined a light on one of my very favorite drams-- Powers John's Lane. I can't imagine not having that in my cabinet. In fact, I saw it on offer online last month and ordered 4 bottles-- I've never bought 4 battles of anything. I agree Yellow Spot is a close second, but not the amazing value. I also agree that I'm slowing down on my purchases of 18+ year old bottles because although good, it is not worth the price of 3-4 bottles of John's Lane.
A canny way to look at it Bud - I do think the enjoyment is diminished when it costs us so much that we're measuring the sips in dollars. Finding a sweet spot value whisky like the PJL is a nice path to follow. Thanks Bud!
Always a joy to see a Recycled Review drop. Nice to see Glenglassaugh getting some love. I tried the Bowmore Vaults 2 Peat Smoke recently and was pleasantly surprised.
I have been staring at that glenglassaugh for months at my local shop. IMMEDIATELY went and bought after watching. What a surprising dram. Good stuff indeed.
Ah that's a relief! Always grateful to hear that someone's found enjoyment from a recommended bottle. Ex-bourbon releases are always good ones to find too! Cheers Josh.
Great to see the return of this much-loved format, Roy! And so interesting to see the much more pronounced emphasis on value for money and good presentation in all of your comments. Yes, as often mentioned on the vPub, value is becoming more and more important as prices for 12 plus year old whiskies climb, some ridiculously. You're right, those bottles are not worth replacing, as there are just too many better value alternatives on the market. In that sense, I was surprised not to see a bottle of Loch Lomond in this video (you must be taking your time with them), except for the "Glasshouse." And, after hearing of the progress made by Glenglassaugh, I'll return to my bottle of Revival (2016 release) very soon and give it another spin around the block. I remember enjoying it a few years back, then it got swamped in the rash of young releases from all the new distilleries that have popped up recently. Oh, and one last thing: here in Germany the new Speyburn 10yo has been released at 46% ABV. Is the UK lagging behind on that? Many thanks for the reviews - as always, they're fun and informative at the same time. Cheers.
Thanks Russel, interestingly - I have a couple of LL on the verge of recycling, I think they could help the next one come along a lot earlier. I should be careful what I promise though! Value will continue to be a focus!

You can tell the era of the Knob Creek by the label and the bottle. That's two generations of their product ago, and 14 year olds are no longer around. It's rare but you can still find one or two close to 12 yr but just under. The good news though is that they are still about $45-$55 in the US, and every bit as good of a bargain.
He’s baaack! Thank God. Great to see the recycled reviews again. Agree with the Tamhdu comments. I was lucky to score a T15 here in Ohio on offer for $70. It seems they were discontinuing Tamdhu. Found a discounted Tamdhu Batch Strength (#4) next to the T15 on the shelf. Sold. Delicious stuff.

Really happy to hear some love for John's Lane and Yellow Spot too. Especially Yellow Spot. I've commented a few times that while Red Breast gets all the attention, it suffers too much from the low abv and thin mouth feel. The other two show what pot still can do.
Yep - I think Rebreast 12 is a good whisky but just not interesting enough. The Yellow Spot is the opposite - great whisky, just too pricey. PJL hits the balance and is the pick of the bunch.
Evolution. One that I've finally tried!!! Is tough in my part of Canada I'm under the tyranny of provincial government liquor control. Loved my bottle of evolution. Great job Roy
I love this format and I hope you keep doing it, no matter what bottles you have. I don't always get a chance to catch your longer live streams, but these are perfect for me! Can also confirm Springbank 10 has become impossible to find on shelves where I am in Canada as well, it's now allocated along with everything else they produce. I buy it whenever I can.
I wait for these videos. My favorite on you tube. Please add more reviews of whiskeys that are short 10-15 minutes long!!!! I cant watch 2 hour long videos.
Balvenie Double Wood was my first bottle I ever bought. It got me into trying a lot of other different whiskies and even when I feel like my tastes developed (perhaps beyond 40%) I enjoyed going back to it. Especially on the warmer Melbourne summer evenings. It's a very easy and light drink.
Do to my job before retirement I knew quite a lot of wealthy people. A few of them knew a bit about wine. Very few of them knew anything about whisky and if they drank it, it was over a lot of ice or mixed. So like you I marvel at these prices and who is paying them.
Great to be able to watch a new recycle review! So on the money (excuse the pun) about price rises, I had an email today for Tamdhu 18 - £195! Really taking the p**s now. Roy, you've given me a few others to consider as always - thankyou.
Fantastic Recycled Review! You are a brave man to drink the dregs in the driveway! Your neighbours must think your a crazy man! Thank you for all the content!
Just lamenting the other day that it had been a while since a Recycled Review. I agree after close to 20 years into Scotch I have dropped off the list a lot of "out of range" priced bottles but also I have been far more frugal with new bottle exploration instead focusing on the middle range favorites and the occasional special bottle with those savings.
I told the family I’d be on the lanai for a quiet drink or two while I watched a special video and that I was not to be disturbed. “Is this the one you’ve been waiting for for so long?” Yes. “What is it, a new Star Wars or Marvel trailer?” No, it’s recycled reviews. Her eye roll was audible…but she’s wrangling the kids so I can be refreshed.
Exactly the same problem I have. The fill levels go down at the same rate and you end up finishing a mountain of bottles in a week. You should definitely put some of the single casks in the bin. Totally agree about the Powers. The best bang for buck Irish out there because, like the Japanese stuff, Irish whisky is crummy value (Yellow Spot 12 - £75). I had the Miyagikyo NAS recently and liked it but I can have two Ledaig 10's and spare change for the money. The price of whisky is becoming absurd. Glengoyne 21 is a complete rip-off these days and the rumour mill is suggesting a huge spike in some Diageo favourites. Try buying Talisker 18 right now because it's nowhere to be seen. That's set to go north of £200! The Malts of Scotland range could increase by a huge amount. Tamdhu - too expensive. Love the Glencadam 21 but quite a lot of nonsense beginning to appear from that distillery too. Roy, I completely agree with what you say about pricing. Over the last few years people on ordinary incomes have become accustomed to paying prices, fit for kings, on whisky. Three figure sums for booze. People are being taken for fools. We complain about the price of food and energy and then gleefully line the pockets of the shareholders of whisky distilleries that are every bit as greedy and rapacious. Talk about Fat Cats. Even that tasty Bowmore, which is under 10 years old, is out of order. Tasty high abv Islay NAS like Smokehead, Ileach, Scarabus, Finlaggan, etc, are all far cheaper. When I think of the excellence of the Port Charlotte range who produce great age statement whisky for cheaper. Why is a Bowmore NAS £75? Not justified. Totally agree about good whisky out there but it takes an experienced head to manoeuvre those waters and it's getting younger and younger. Quality mature whisky is slipping out of reach now. It's even tanked in the Independents which, amazingly, are becoming more expensive than the distillery ranges. Younger people coming into whisky, unless they work in Silicon Valley, will never know what a 20+ year old Islay or a quality mature sherry cask whisky tastes like. That is a profound shame for me. By the way, I had a great whisky experience in Spain recently. Check this out in the comments. I think you will enjoy it. Welsh ruclips.net/video/MFfkRJjmq1A/видео.html
You've a canny and experienced head on you Welsh - you know where the value hangs out. As part of the community, it's valuable that you share it as you do.
Thank you for the recycling review Just a simple idea 💡 😇😂 The level of all your bottles might go down quicker with the return of the blind test on vpub 😇 🤔😂
Prices are really getting crazy. Like you, I have always had a Glengoyne 21 on deck. I like that whisky so much. That European oak influence is wonderful. At $135 a bottle I was hording them back in the day. Now at $250 I won’t be buying it anymore :(
You’re blessed to be such a likeable guy. Appreciate the advice. Loving the AnCnoc 18 and Tamdhu 15. Hope to meet up someday. Your trip to Islay looked like a blast.
the glengoyne 21 and tamdhu 15 in my area of canada havent jumped nearly as much as they have in scotland. here they are still value buys for their ages. Cheers
I hope your discount is significant DJ, I heard someone say the G21 is £185 at the distillery. Oooft. Also hope you can still get your hands on Springbank where you are, and at their rrp! Cheers DJ
Great video again, wise and interesting words. Just don't wait as long before you do another. Any planned trips to Islay or any of the other Whisky Regions?
If the older whiskies move out of reach then there are loads of interesting younger drams available at quite affordable prices, sometimes at pretty high abvs, cask strength even.
I agree that there is great young whisky out there and that young can be as good as old for different reasons. However, old mature whisky has a style all of its own and can only be experienced when it is old.
Absolutely. However thinking of 8-10 years old as young may be changing with 8-12 been kind of middling aged, 15-21 been ‘mature’ and higher than that been old???
@@edfriday7709 I think young these days is 3 to 8 years. Middle aged is 12 to 17 and old is 18+. That leaves a few gaps of course and rightly so. 10 year old whisky can be youthful and mature depending on (this is the big one) the quality of the casks. As a matter of fact I've had whisky that is well over 20 years old aged in such overused casks that it's hardly matured and still tastes young. I seriously think the quality of casks, and the decline of their quality, is the big issue in the whisky world moving forward.
Roy, you should be aware that in the US, Springbank (or rather from what I've heard, Springbank's importer) does indeed gouge. The 10, at the one shop near me that sells it, is $100 (~80 GBP) a bottle; my market is not that much of an anomaly compared to others. For comparison, in the same market, I can (and have) bought Glen Scotia 10 Peated and Ardbeg 10 at $50, Loch Lomond 18 at $90, and Ledaig 10 at $66. If I want budget entry level funk, I can get Loch Lomond 12 for $33! I'm sure Springbank 10 is great whisky, but no entry level product is worth $100 a bottle. Hard pass. Springbank needs to find a new importer that isn't bent on ripping us off. Side note: a bit disappointed to not see Loch Lomond 18 in this episode (and I know you have a bottle!). I think it's a cracking value for what it is; hopefully in Recycled Review 15!
From what I understand they don't have much say - like all the other producers. The real frustration there is that the distillery that makes it don't see a cut of that gouging. I know what I'd be tempted to do.... but you're right. Springbank or not - when you smell gouging - hard pass. Loch Lomond is, meanwhile, getting better all the time.
Springbank is damn near impossible to get in Germany, some on eBay but usually for silly money. Speaking of which, the places I usually buy from have it listed at around €80 for the 10, €140 for the 15 and €400+ for the 18. Out of stock of course but at those prices I'd still pass.
I adore the Tamdhu 15 its layered, complex and engaging and about the same price in NZ at $150 (£75) and I honestly don't think there is anything in market (here) that is easily available that competes, including the Glencadam 14yo. That said, I agree the 18 being close to double was a surprise although it didn't stop me grabbing one
Glenturret 12, Glendronach 15 and Edradour Caledonia (among other Ed's) and I think we're all preparing for that 15yo to head up in price, although the label does say "Limited Release" whatever that means.
Yoichi's 18yo is what turned me from a teenage occasional enjoyer of the novelty of heavily peated whisky into a whisky lover. I just wish my younger self realised at the time that Japanese whisky had only just started garnering international attention, and that it would become unaffordable a couple years later. I suppose I should count myself lucky that I had a friend who was clued into it early on who was excited to share it with me, so I at least got the chance to experience it.
In France Yellow Spot is 79 and Power's 67. I had two samples side by side and definitely found the Yellow Spot more interesting aromatically. The Malaga casks give you quite a rare experience of fresh exotic fruits. I go for the Yellow Spot.

Must watch Whisky TV!
Thanks Joey!
Springbank 10 is surely my favourite whisky overall. Luckily in Italy you still can find It sometimes. Great job as always Roy!!
Grab it while you can! Grazie Mille Din!
Thank you. An absolute favourite of mine. Always look forward to the review. Slainte!
Thanks guys!
Thanks for doing this - my favourite type of content.
Thanks for writing this - my favourite type of comment! Cheers Sachin!
Evolution. One that I've finally tried!!! Is tough in my part of Canada I'm under the tyranny of provincial government liquor control. Loved my bottle of evolution. Great job Roy
Great to see you back at the bin Roy. Looking forward to next weeks already 😉😂
Next week... I was gonna try to do it a little quicker but...oooft. My poor liver. Cheers MTL!
Thanks Oliver - I appreciate you watching whatever you can catch! Cheers!
I wait for these videos. My favorite on you tube. Please add more reviews of whiskeys that are short 10-15 minutes long!!!! I cant watch 2 hour long videos.
I've too much to say!
Agreed. Sometimes, it's a delight exactly like that.
That's their cask strength. Horrific price to 'reward' their fans. Good luck to them but it ain't ours anymore.
@@Aqvavitae wise words I agree!
Feels like we've been waiting forever for another recycled review. You need to drink more, Roy. ;)
I do, I do, come over and help me then. Cheers my friend!
In all its glory! Thanks for giving me some more whisk(e)y to add to my list to look out for.
You're welcome Marc, good luck on your searches!
My favourite,pl keep it up...
I'll try Kuldeep! Thanks for stopping by!
YES!!!!
The experience brings wisdom Jimi
I told the family I’d be on the lanai for a quiet drink or two while I watched a special video and that I was not to be disturbed. “Is this the one you’ve been waiting for for so long?” Yes. “What is it, a new Star Wars or Marvel trailer?” No, it’s recycled reviews. Her eye roll was audible…but she’s wrangling the kids so I can be refreshed.
That sounds like an idyllic scene my friend, although I had to Google "lanai"! Want one!
As an old person getting into whisky I heartily concur!
You've a canny and experienced head on you Welsh - you know where the value hangs out. As part of the community, it's valuable that you share it as you do.
@@stevelandwonder4760 me too!
Thanx is for another top recycled review roy
Great to see Paul too 🤣
All he wanted was to drop off a sample. I had other plans!
Think the extra bottles will be of interest if only for us being able too geek out with you 😜
Hehe - spot on Hellen!
Always helpful, always useful! :)
and always grateful for you to drop by and leave a comment too Richard - thank you!
Cheers Roy.
Cheers Jim!
Thank you for the recycling review
Just a simple idea 💡 😇😂
The level of all your bottles might go down quicker with the return of the blind test on vpub 😇
🤔😂
A blind test coming up this week! Cheers Sabrina!
@@Aqvavitae that’s a really good news... I’ll catch the reply as usual ☺️
Prices are really getting crazy. Like you, I have always had a Glengoyne 21 on deck. I like that whisky so much. That European oak influence is wonderful. At $135 a bottle I was hording them back in the day. Now at $250 I won’t be buying it anymore :(
Agreed... but if we're not - who is? I guess there are a ton of folks out there with the money to throw at it. Cheers cato
You’re blessed to be such a likeable guy. Appreciate the advice. Loving the AnCnoc 18 and Tamdhu 15. Hope to meet up someday. Your trip to Islay looked like a blast.
Made my day , more please Roy 👍🥃
Cheers Neil. I'll do my best!
the glengoyne 21 and tamdhu 15 in my area of canada havent jumped nearly as much as they have in scotland. here they are still value buys for their ages. Cheers
Watch that space Sean…
Love these reviews!
Thanks John!
I get imd products discounted cos i work for them like gg 21 but out of all the spirits you reviewed I'm so glad i have SpringBank
Too many trip s ahead, a busy year once more. I'll do my best not to 'wait' - Cheers team Dora!
If the older whiskies move out of reach then there are loads of interesting younger drams available at quite affordable prices, sometimes at pretty high abvs, cask strength even.
There's billions of the stuff!
40% is totally fine, but at $120 Canadian for a bottle here the price for Balvenie 12 is absolutely criminal.
I can't disagree there... I hope you have lots of alternatives!
@@Aqvavitae glenfarclas 15 is less expensive than the Balvenie here and infinitely better whisky in my opinion
Recently introduced to Loch Lomond, great taste and value for the price.
@@davidpepin6443 glad you're enjoying! Some nice stuff there at the moment for sure.
@@Aqvavitae oooh not had much Edradour after a poor ibisco expression. I agree Glenturret has been great value
Outstanding!!
Yes - good you got to try them while they were around and hope they kick-started a love of what whisky has to offer generally. Cheers Rick!
Superb video! Thank you
Cheers Josh!
Aaah, I've been looking forward to this! Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and opinion, Roy! Fantastic stuff!
Thanks pDram!
Wonderful
At last ,so missed the bottles hitting the bottom of the bin, winner winner bottom of the bin dinner.
Haha! Cheers Roger!
Oh Roy you weren´t lying that it will be soon. :)
Not soon enough though Lukas - next one should be quicker!
If you think the standard Cotswolds is good, try their Founder's Choice - it's incredible.
I'm on the lookout for more! Cheers Gman.
Yellow Spot is usually $90-100+ here in the states. Powers John's Lane is generally around $60. No-brainer in my book.
Indeed. Would love to know the reasoning for that.
In France Yellow Spot is 79 and Power's 67. I had two samples side by side and definitely found the Yellow Spot more interesting aromatically. The Malaga casks give you quite a rare experience of fresh exotic fruits. I go for the Yellow Spot.
nice house! Would love a characterful house like that
Love these reviews. Just grabbed a Glasshouse for £28 so am hoping it’s as good value as you say Roy.
I think you’ll like it.
@@Aqvavitae I hope so. Other than your review it seems under the radar at the moment.
