I've been using these diamond stones for 15-20 years. They were originally sold to touch up tools (router bits, chisels, utility knives.). Worth their weight in gold.
This is a very informative video. I have watched many knife sharpening how-to videos. I actually retained the information and completely understood his explainations. Thank you so much. 5 star rating in my book. Presence, knowledge, personality, communication.
Good video. I bought the coarse and fine in this same size back in 1987 or 88 and glued them together for my field knife when I was in the service. I still use them at LEAST once or twice a week for all my knives including kitchen knives, and they have been used literally 1,000's of times and still going strong. Great product. Keep up the great work.
A friend of mine actually gave me the course and fine one that's red on one side and blue on the other side as a present and I love it. Works great! Great video and thank you for sharing it with us all..
What an excellent video. I'm new to DMT diafolds and this video told me everything I need to know about their line of sharpening tools. Thank you so much.
Great review. I carry the worksharp guided field sharpener in my bag. It offers 4 grits, 2 diamond and 2 ceramic, plus hook and serration ceramics, and last but not least, a leather strop. I love it! The SOG is the small one with my KBar. Thanks for honest info.
I love DMT's Diafolds! I have used them for about 6 years now and I haven't worn a single one out yet, and I do a lot of sharpening. I have a few of the coarse/fine and a extra fine/extra extra fine, and I also have an extra coarse. The extra coarse works great for axes, garden tools, and badly damaged knives. I'm glad to see Diafolds getting a little attention in the knife community again! I thought everyone had bought a Work Sharp or a Fallkniven DC4 and forgot about DMT! Haha
I just bought one of these DMT sharpeners in course/fine, then a spyderco double sided 600-1800 grit, and lastly a strop with green compound. My first sharpening setup!
New to your channel and I just wanted to thank you for this video. I just ordered a few sets of these because of this video and I couldn't be happier! Thank you again so much!
Looks like winner. I like the size and they look durable. Been looking at better sharpening solutions, this system seems to fit what I've been looking for. Great review bro.
love those sharpeners! been using them for years, I have one in my edc kit, my truck, and I keep one in my tool belt at work, as a union drywall hanger we can go through a lot of razor blades in a week but with the dmt diamond stones I can put a new edge on my blade and save my employer a few bucks!
You know, I have walked past one of those at Home Depot and always hesitated on pulling the trigger to purchase one. However, after watching this video, I think I will Ben. LOL. Thanks for the review.
Ben I just got the magna guide sharpener, and I've sharpened one pocket knife CPM154 steel and the diafolds are working great! I just hope the stones will have decent longevity, Thankyou for the recommendation!
I have one of thier key chain versions. ive had it for years , I bought it at a harware store . it was 12 bucks ! ouch , but it has redeemed itself 100 times over. You did well
Hey man...I've used DMT for over 20 years and you're right! You know you can use the serrated dis folds on plain edge knives the same way with more precise control and they come in all the grits! Follow any DMT sharpening session with ceramic rods like Spyderco pocket files and WOW! I've used the serrated rat tail red for over 15 years on every knife I own. I don't let my knives get much past "won't shave" dull either! Softer high carbon steels like axes respond well to the pucks as you said followed by ceramic. I've also used the sanding sponges found at hardware stores and kraytex sticks or slabs on them! STAY SHARP! Great review!
Been looking a long time for a good sharpening system. Might have to pull the trigger for the kit to get the best of both grits and the guide. Thanks for the review.
Alternating every stroke isnt how a burr is made. You should stick to one side stroking until the burr forms and then flip the knife to the opposite side and stroke an equal number as the first.
Just got the red and blue one- man this thing is sweet- after i get the blade nice and sharp i fine tune it with a schrade honesteel then use the leather honesteel sheath like a razor strop - damn thing is scary sharp. 👍👍👍
Great vid, thanks for sharing! ,.. I just got one of the little guys yesterday (red=fine) and it worked like a charm, today I got the little blue (coarse) and the butterfly like (coarse/fine) and I got greedy,... I will go grab another of these for my father in law who was amazed as well. Is good to support companies that make prime quality and reliable products!!!
I'm still practicing my sharpening skills. This may be something fir me too take a look at. Seems quite simple. Also have you realized that the sharpeners open like a balisong knife!
Compact and light , I always carry at least one partialy serrated , and that smaller version is perfect for the sml pouch on my Schrade sheath.Good to know.thanks.
Just got one the blue and red . My wife said you never use them you always use the SMITH BRAND Diamond sharpener would like some more info on the extra extra fine please and thanks for the video
Hello, I am currently looking for a sharpening stone and this one looks great to me sinds i'm often out in the field and i would like to sharpen close to my camp. Do you recommend the Choard and fine (red & blue) or the extra fine and extra extra fine (yellow & green) ?? I am a beginner
+Living Survival Thanks, I found the videos. Have you ever ordered from Voodoo Tactical? If so what were your thoughts. I was looking at there website and from what I know they look good and are pretty cheap.
When you get around to sharpening a knife, which grit stone or stones would you say you use 95% of the time? For me, most of the time it's my fine grit to just top off the edge, but next to that would be my medium to just bring a maybe dulled or slightly rolled edge back to suitable sharpness for final honing on the fine stone or strop. So why in blazes does DMT feel it's a genius idea to include a coarse and a fine surface on their double-sided field sharpener? Nope, that's a fail for me and they don't win my money.
I have one of these and for some reason I can't get it to work properly like you showed in this video. Could it be because it's quite old? One of my fathers friends gave it to me and it was already used, so maybe it's just too used or something. Hope you can tell me if that's why, and if it's not that can you tell me what else it could be? Thanks in advance! Sorry for my bad punctuation, it's not quite the same when writing in english as it is in danish.
Another amazing review, just wondering if you are standing in-front of a green screen? If not could you let us know what camera you are filming with as the quality looks great.
I like the compact size. Tell me after finishing your blade on the extra fine/extra extra fine sharpener does it replace stropping on leather?BTW Love the custom paint job on the wave.
+Chris Stankaitis search for lansky puck. that is probably the most popular but schrade actually puts them in with their axes. they work well for field sharpening larger tools.
hey Ben Have you tried the sharpener on convex edges? I use a Worksharp for just about everything but in a survival scenario I'm not so sure about convex edges and the ability to easily sharpen them in the field.
Thanks for this look at the DMT Diafold system, Ben. I'm sorry... by my current choice for field use is still the Worksharp Field Sharpening System. A very good video review concerning these portable DMT Diafold Double-Sided Sharpeners. I'm sold on them. By the way, I really like the micarta scales you've fitted to the BK7. May I ask where you found them?

Isnt the continuous dmt diamond stones better than the dia fold with the polka dot pattern
