Merry Christmas, Dennis Pritchard Outdoors! The internet is full of rude, disrespectful know-it-alls. I'm happy I found your channel. In this Texas boy's eyes, you are a heck of an outdoorsman. Thank you for your videos!
People are so rude!!Your response was right on!!!You can hunt however you want to…people are nuts!!Love watching your videos!!I went this morning and froze my butt off..didn’t see nothing, but anyday I can watch Gods Creation wake up is a great day!!
My two closest friends live and hunt in North Carolina. Most of their deer hunting is done about two hours from where The Lovely Bride and I live in our beloved home state of South Carolina. The deer in the area of N.C. where my friends hunt apparently will eat ANYTHING that grows naturally OR is planted, and harvested I must add, by farmers in that area. In my neck of the woods, here in S.C., clover seems to be the preferred thing for deer though corn will get their attention too! As for planting corn, the deer don't seem to care and deer feeders and even just piles of "deer corn" seems to work for both the deer and deer hunters alike. Growing up on a small family farm I never saw deer in our corn fields, but I can't swear they never paid them a visit as I had to eat, sleep, go to school, and do my chores and game cameras were not a thing back then. As for me? Well, I'm old, wore out, tired, and retired nowadays and I'm more likely to be found deer hunting from a ground stand in an area that suits me best and looks to me, at least, like a place deer might like at least as much as I do. Take care, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and God Bless you and yours!
@@furmanmackey5479 Thank you so much for sharing your story. Much appreciated. I wish we could legally put out corn here in Virginia. You can plant it to attract deer but you can’t just put out a pile of it. Does that make any sense???
@@dennispritchardoutdoors7882 Down here, just leaving a pile of "deer corn" on the ground and "shooting over it" would be considered "baiting". SCDNR frowns over "baiting". Legitimate hunters around here, on private owned and/or leased land, start around June with feeders, spreading corn in shooting lanes, and clearing those shooting lanes for when the season starts in August. Salt and mineral blocks are also allowed on private or leased property. HOWEVER, a great way to lose your hunting license, firearm, and possibly even your hunting truck or SUV is to "bait" deer on state/public land. Jail time can also come into the equation! I'm way too old to go to jail for being stupid and am right attached to my old hunting rifles, my truck, and I would hate to lose my hunting license because I was "a goof ass" and violated state hunting regulations. I always pick up three copies of the state fish and game regulations as soon as they come out. I keep a copy in each truck and one in the house for light reading. So far so good!
@@furmanmackey5479 Laws pertaining to “baiting” vary considerably from state to state. For instance you can plant anything you want to attract deer, here. Corn included. But if you just put it out it is baiting. What on earth is the difference? And in your state you can scatter corn with a feeder and that is legal, but not legal if in a pile? Do I understand that correctly?

I think you’re wrong on the nipping off ladino clover and it quits growing. The problem we have with ladino is it goes dormant in the hot dry summers that we have but red clover doesn’t last as long but it does better in the heat for us which is better for the cattle. What I have done for deer that doesn’t cost much is to broadcast some bin run wheat or rye on the pastures right before a good rain in the fall and the deer love that if we don’t have a good acorn year. On a good acorn year you won’t see a deer in a field very much until after dark. From watching your videos I think you have a much better healthy deer population than we have. Seems like we get EHD every year since we have been in a drought the last 3 or 4 years.
@@charleywalker2982 Man I surely hear you on the wheat and rye. They really like the rye. A Virginia State biologist is the one who told me that the deer kill the ladino clover. I have only planted it once, but lots of it. And just as he said it came right up, the deer nipped it off and it was gone forever. He said the same holds true for Winter Rye. I planted it and just like the ladino it came right up, was promptly eaten and was never seen again. I have not planted either of them again so my experience with both of them is limited. I have red and white clover. Predominantly white. It is prolific and the deer love it. Thank you for your thoughtful comments.
Plant whatever you like, they eat anything they can. little grain, little clover, maybe rhubarb and strawberry's and if they don't get to it make a nice pie. Merry Christmas and God bless.
