Enjoyed the video. Nice car. 79 TA's are my favorites. I have several. A couple of corrections. The wheels were not originally painted that way. They would have been gray with silver on the spokes originally. So those have been custom painted. No big deal, but just a fact. The dash bezel machining is called "engine turned", not fish scale. The trim moldings around the windshield and back glass are supposed to be black, but these are not, so somebody has changed that. The engine is the 403 Olds, which only came with the automatic transmission. The shaker decal for a 403 Olds should read "6.6 Litre". The shaker decal on this car has been changed to the "TA 6.6" decal, which is for the Pontiac 400 engine. So, the decal is wrong for the engine. Since that decal is wrong, the car may have been repainted and new decals installed, with the incorrect shaker decal used. The paint looks very good, and the decals look new, so I think it has been repainted and new decals installed which would explain the unoriginal items. It wouldn't be unusual for a car to need new paint 40 years later, unless it stayed in a climate controlled garage all its life. The vast majority of 79 TA's had the 403 Olds with automatic transmission, like this one. The 4 speed manual transmission was only used with the Pontiac 400 engine, or Pontiac 301 in 1979. They were phasing out the last of the Pontiac 400 engines in 79, and only had about 8300 400's left to sell, so they only sold those with 4 speeds. That was out of a total 79 Trans Am production of about 117,000. The 1979 year was, and still is, the highest production year for the Trans Am and Firebird in history. One big reason the 403 Olds TA doesn't feel very fast from a stop is that most of them came with a 2.41 rear end gear ratio for good gas mileage. So, not real quick on take-off, but easy highway cruising and good gas mileage. A 79 TA with the Pontiac 400 4 speed would take off faster, and a big reason for that is that it came with 3.23 rear end gears, instead of the 2.41 highway gears that the Olds 403 cars got. But even with the highway gears, the 79 TA Olds 403 can still be peppy. And that one looks like it is, and looks good doing it too.

In 1979 all Trans Ams with the automatic had the 403 Oldsmobile engine in them. All 4-speed cars came with the Pontiac 400. The auto had T/A 6.6 on the scoop and the 4-speed had 6.6 Litre. You can tell the Olds engines by the oil fill tube. Also the wheels should have silver where those are painted red. Most Trans Ams had the snowflake wheels. That is a super clean car though. The Olds had less horsepower and the block will not take a lot of horsepower. A friend of mine didn't believe it and built one up and it split the block in two. They will last a long time in stock form though. I have a 79 Black 400 4-speed car that has been replaced with the 455 Pontiac.

I’m 49 and my sister who is 8 years older had a similar car in 1979. A family friend bought it brand new and had it shipped to Boston. I’ve looked and its hard to find the same color combo as this car. My sisters was identical to this but all red interior, seats, dash, door panels etc. I was 8 or 9 and seeing this in my parents driveway was crazy. People fail to understand how awesome it was that Pontiac kept performance alive with the gas crisis, oil embargo, gas lines and emissions. And these cars could handle. All white with the red and orange phenix. Meanwhile my dad drove a ‘78 Ford station wagon. The Pontiac turned heads back then as it does now. The design is timeless in my book.

OK Block, upon purchasing this bird & growing out your mullet, it will be required for you to only wear wife beaters from now on and get a complete back tattoo of Burt Reynolds. Also, the AM/FM radio will be permanently locked onto the All Skynyrd All The Time station. The big downside to this purchase, is the limited trunk capacity when buying new motor scooters for the channel. Nothing larger than a Honda Monkey will fit. In spite of the downside, this seem like a good fit for you. People won't question the helmet & GoPro when driving this beastly bird.

The engineers did the best they could do to please the government standards and some power, but the technology was not there to do both, that is why they are so weak, but I love them old cars. The kid is right. The Chevelle SS is a classic. The 55 Bel Air is a classic. A 79 Trans Am is not a classic, and has the ugliest front end ever, "imo". This coming from a guy who owned a 68 firebird HO, 70 firebird formula 400, and a 77 Blackbird and used to race in the local Trans Am club back in the day. The years you want is 68 to 73. Then the 76/77 blackbird is also okay but weaker. Dude, Honda Civics will beat that car.
Edit: After some reflection on my post, I must apologize to anyone that does like the 79's. It's just my opinion and I have no right to be a boomer about what anyone likes or dislikes. You do you. But I left my post with the edits as otherwise this won't make sense.
